2026 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix Prix-view – Race Potential Rating

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.
So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.
FAST 2/10
There’s not much to get too worked up about in terms of speed, but it isn’t the slowest track on the calendar. Just one of the slowest. It is a real stop-start track where even the pit straight never seems quite long enough. The only bonus with all of that is that the 2026 rules might not be too bad on this track, so it may be faster than we think.
ACTION 5/10
It can be a race where there’s action, often at the start like when Valtteri Bottas doubled as a tenpin bowling ball and wiped out most of the front runners. It’s also a track where there has been a healthy dose of first time and only time winners. The tight confines, twisty nature and lack of proper overtaking can make races boring or provide enough frustration for some wheel banging.
BIG HISTORY 5/10
It’s been on the calendar since 1986, which actually preceded the fall of the Iron Curtain, so the old F1 commercial boss Bernie was some kind of salesman. That first race wasn’t bad either, with the highlight being Nelson Piquet overtaking Ayrton Senna for the lead whilst sliding sideways into the first corner. There’s been some historic moments like a first and only Championship for Nigel Mansell in 1992, and he scored one of his best wins in 1989 with a win from 14th on the grid with typical Mansell-esque overtaking.
INCLEMENT WEATHERÂ 3/10
The Weather Channel says anywhere between 1% and 15% chance of rain over the weekend, with warm weather being the only point of interest with temperatures in the high 20’s to low 30’s as the ho European summer continues.
RACE POTENTIAL RATING 38% – Not the greatest track, but occasionally one where stuff happens.
