EVERYDAY NEWS – The Mobile Game Ban

The supervisor of a government data entry office has enforced a surprising ban.

From July 1, all employees are banned from playing mobile games during work hours.

The small department focuses on processing various invoices for government departments (with no telephones or customer interactions), but the supervisor Peter has seen an increase in distraction with employees playing mobile games while working.

“Trust me, mobile games are addictive, especially those ‘free’ ones that pile on all the extra features that you have to pay for or make progression impossible unless you pay or are prepared to watch an unbearable amount of ads. And any game where you have to play a certain amount of levels every day quickly becomes a chore. Most mobile games are a massive waste of time!”

There is some good news though.

“My staff are free to listen to podcasts and music on their phones, or even watch YouTube or TV shows as long as it can be put in the background while they work. This job requires a lot of concentration of relatively mundane tasks, so listening to podcasts or music that people enjoy can help them focus. As long as they wear headphones of course.”

The mobile game ban extends to break time and lunch too.

“Before the ban, my staff would be glued to their phones on their lunch breaks. I want them get out and get fresh air during their breaks. I don’t even mind if they eat lunch while they work and use their proper lunch break to walk about the city for a bit. Being glued to silly games on your phone at lunch, on top of concentrating on data all day, will melt your brain and turn you into a zombie! If you have to play mobile games, then play them either to or from work or when you get home.”
