Way too much information? Never fear, we won’t go into too much details. We’ve watched all the games so you didn’t have to. Feel free to use our review as the dot point plan for those workplace discussions over the coming week.

PEACHES OF THE WEEK

As good as our Team of the Week is, some were just a little better and deserve more Player of the Year points. So here are our top 5 players for the weekend.

5 – James Maloney – no Nathan Cleary proved no problem for Penrith as Maloney stepped up and gave a performance that locals expected from their number 7.
4 – Tom Trbojevic – had 100+ Supercoach points by half time, and destroyed Raiders.
3 – Blake Green – took over in Shaun Johnson’s absence and NZ spanked Roosters in the process.
2 – Benji Marshall – still continues to turn back the clock.
1 – Phillip Sami – three tries against Broncos at Suncorp and architect of a rare winger to winger cross field kick try.

TEAM OF THE YEAR – THE MARVELLOUS MAVIN MEDAL

We will keep score and unveil the leaderboard from Round 6 onwards. Each player of the week gets two points, and the Top 5 get extras. Talk about sizzle…..

BEST OF THINGS FROM NRL Round 4

OUR FAVOURITE THINGS OF THE WEEK

Just a few of our favourite things….unlike whiskers on kittens.

The surprise of Titans performance against the Broncos, showing the competition means any team can beat any team on a given day.

The finish to the Rabbitohs v Bulldogs game. Great for a Rabbitohs supporter we suppose. Probably not the greatest game before then.

5 days of rugby league spread across the Easter weekend.

WORST OF THINGS FROM NRL Round 4

Penalties. So many penalties. Sure they were all justified, but it made for some painful viewing.

Sharks v Storm – became unwatchable in the end.

Parramatta Eels. At least they scored some second half points.

A GAME BY GAME GUIDE of the GREAT, GRIPE, and GRAPE FROM NRL Round 4

PENRITH 33 COWBOYS 14

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
7 / 10
TALKING POINTS
1 – The penalties given away in the defensive 20m zone were a joke, but worse was to come over the weekend.
2 – The Cowboys look flat, they never looked liekly against an enthusiastic Panthers team.
3 – The return of Lachlan Coote is never more needed. They need a spark from somewhere. Scored a try for Mackay in the ISC.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners- James Maloney
Losers – John Asiata

RABBITOHS 20 BULLDOGS 16

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
8 / 10 – Mostly for last few minutes
TALKING POINTS
1 – Foran’s miss would have been sweetest Football penalty, right in the top right corner.
2 – Sam Burgess’ elbow looked nasty, and so the judiciary thought too. But he’s not the only one to do it. Cue another crackdown.
3 – Great to see Greg Inglis back among the try scorers.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Michael Lichaa
Losers  – John Sutton

SHARKS 14 STORM 4

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
1 / 10 – Worst Game ever
TALKING POINTS
1 – Penalty first play set the tone for another 32 to come by full time.
2 – Slater’s dive to get Luke Lewis in the Sin Bin was worthy of the Champions League.
3 – Not for the first time this year the advantage of the extra man because someone went to the Sin Bin was not used by the other side.
4 – After 33 penalties and not enough sin binning, was it any wonder the game saw a few minutes of scuffle at the end.
5 – Pre season favourites Storm and Cowboys are looking as underwhelming as each other.
6 – In a game where there were 33 penalties and two sin binnings, both the 10 minute stints given out were reasonably pissweak. Perhaps sending a few more to the bin may have saved the game. Maybe the players would have got it at 10 players a side.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Wade Graham
Losers  – Joe Stimson

WARRIORS 30 ROOSTERS 6

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
8 / 10 – Love the Warriors style
TALKING POINTS
1 – No Shaun Johnson, no worries for Warriors
2 – Love the NZ Group circle after a try. Can’t argue against recent results since its introduction.
3 – We remember a time when Footy Tipping was much more simple, and the Warriors were best avoided when playing away from home in the first half of the year. Now 3/3 away.
4 – After being so good this year, Blake Ferguson had a very bad day.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Wade Graham
Losers  – Joe Stimson

SEA EAGLES 32 RAIDERS 16

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
6 / 10
TALKING POINTS
1 – Tom Trbojevic is an Origin must for NSW. Let’s hope people don’t ruin his career by trying to bulk him up too much, and lose all that speed.
2 – Martin Taupau is our favourite prop.
3 – Game was basically over at half time, so the Raiders didn’t have to invent a new way to lose.

BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Tom Trbojevic
Losers  -Jack Wighton

DRAGONS 30 KNIGHTS 12

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
7 / 10
TALKING POINTS
1 – Good signs for both sides for much better 2018 so far.
2 – Doesn’t get much unluckier for Tautau Moga who scores a try and does his knee for a fourth time.
3 – Euan Aitken’s repair headwear was a beauty.
4 – Will there be a better offload than Tim Lafai’s.
5 – Just 15 penalties awarded.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Nene McDonald
Losers  – Kalyn Ponga

TITANS 26 BRONCOS 14

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
8 / 10
TALKING POINTS
1 – The Broncos would do well if they could make a worse start to a game this season than their effort v the Titans.
2 – Some great, yet unexpected kick assists with prop Ryan James layng on the perfect grubber and winger Phillip Sami doing the rare winger to winger cross field kick.
3 – The Broncos looked flat, but Boyd looks the most flat. Surely can’t be fully fit.
4 – Maguire v Wallace looked like some good fun.
5 – Titans conceded just 4 penalties.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Phillip Sami
Losers  – Andrew McCullough

TIGERS 30 EELS 20

LOUNGE RATING (Watchable factor out of 10)
7 / 10
TALKING POINTS
1 – First second half points for the Eels in 2018
2 – Welcome headache for Tigers with Josh Reynolds back
3 – Could anything sum this whole week up than a penalty awarded on the second tackle of the last game of the weekend.
4 – Benji Marshall continuing his great 2018 form.
5 – 3 Eels players caught being obnoxious out on the piss shows some of the reason why Eels are winless and look awful.
6 – Footage of Mitchell Moses losing it at team mates a little pot kettle from someone sent to the sin bin two weeks straight to start the season.
BEST PLAYERS
Winners – Benji Marshall
Losers  – George Jennings
