A quick look at the current state of play in the Premier League.

2023-24 English Premier League Week 8 Best Stats

Here are some of our favourite stats from the match H2H stats below. But read on for ore….

  • Man City haven’t lost a Sunday game to Arsenal since 2015,
  • Crystal Palace have never beaten Nottingham Forest in the Premier League (D3 L3)
  • Man Utd have played three London teams this season already and lost all three.

2023-24 English Premier League Week 8 Predictions – Match by Match H2H Stats Previews

Our big, beautiful full visual preview of each game is below.

More stats than you could probably ever want or need, for now.

SATURDAY 12:30PM – LUTON v SPURS

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions LUTTOT

THE STAT/S

Spurs (W5 D4) have not lost their last nine games v Luton. The last Saturday game between these sides (1991) pre-dates the Premier League.

OUR PREDICTION

Luton 0 Spurs 4

OUR THOUGHTS

Can the Ange-Ball revolution continue against the stoic Championship-ness of Luton Town. Given their struggles against Sheffield United earlier, perhaps Spurs don’t like playing promoted clubs. Well, it you discount the thrashing of Burnley earlier in the season.

SATURDAY 3:00PM – BURNLEY v CHELSEA

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions BURCHE

THE STAT/S

Chelsea (W7 D2) are unbeaten in their last nine games v Burnley. Chelsea have also won five straight at Burnley.

OUR PREDICTION

Burnley 0 Chelsea 0

OUR THOUGHTS

So Chelsea won a game, and so did Burnley. A corner is waiting to be turned for one team. It would be funnier if that team was Burnley. There’s only 700M difference in squad market value between the sides according to TransferMarkt.

SATURDAY 3:00PM – EVERTON v BOURNEMOUTH

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions EVEBOU

THE STAT/S

Everton have not yet beaten a bottom six side this season (D1 L2) and Bournemouth are yet to play a bottom six side.

OUR PREDICTION

Everton 2 Bournemouth 0

OUR THOUGHTS

Another relegation six pointer for Everton in consecutive weeks, and they gave away three points to Luton last weekend. Talking of three points, Bournemouth’s tally this season is 3 x 1 point, and are one of two teams left yet to win a game.

SATURDAY 3:00PM – FULHAM v SHEFFIELD UTD

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions FULSHU

THE STAT/S

Fulham (W4 D1) are undefeated in ther last five games v Sheffield United. And won their last three at home to nil. Fulham (W9 D1 L1) have lost just once in their last 11 games on a Saturday v Sheffield United going back to the 1950’s.

OUR PREDICTION

Fulham 0 Sheffield Utd 0

OUR THOUGHTS

The most Saturday 3pm clash of the round. One for the UK blackout period for sure. That might be unfair on both sides. There could be a goal in this game. Maybe.

SATURDAY 3:00PM – MANCHESTER UTD v BRENTFORD

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions MUNBRE

THE STAT/S

Man Utd have won five straight at home to Brentford. Man Utd have played three London teams this season already and lost all three.

OUR PREDICTION

Man Utd 2 Brentford 0

OUR THOUGHTS

A match between two of the more disappointing teams this season. One of them has an excuse by living within their means and missing their star striker.

SATURDAY 5:30PM – CRYSTAL PALACE v NOTT’M FOREST

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions CRYNFO

THE STAT/S

Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in their last six trips to Crystal Palace (W3 D3), Crystal Palace have won just one of their last ten at home v Nottingham Forest. Crystal Palace have never beaten Nottingham Forest in the Premier League (D3 L3)

OUR PREDICTION

Crystal Palace 0 Nottm Forest 0

OUR THOUGHTS

The most mid-table clash of the weekend. Crystal Palace may have used up all their interesting last weekend upsetting Man Utd.

SUNDAY 2:00PM – BRIGHTON v LIVERPOOL

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions BHALIV

THE STAT/S

Liverpool have won both of the Sunday games v Brighton by a combined total of 10-1.

OUR PREDICTION

Brighton 2 Liverpool 3

OUR THOUGHTS

This game should be all about goals. Out of the 14 games games played between these sides, just one has failed to see over 2.5 goals.

SUNDAY 2:00PM – WEST HAM v NEWCASTLE

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions WHUNEW

THE STAT/S

Newcastle (W3 D1) are undefeated in their last four trips to West Ham.

OUR PREDICTION

West Ham 1 Newcastle 2

OUR THOUGHTS

7th v 8th with West Ham exceeding expectations as David Moyes exceeding pre-season guesses on his tenure. Newcastle are a bit hot and cold, so who knows what happens here. Probably Jarrod Bowen scores.

SUNDAY 2:00PM – WOLVES v ASTON VILLA

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions WOLAVL

THE STAT/S

Wolves are undefeated v Aston Villa in their last five matches (W3 D2).

OUR PREDICTION

Wolves 2 Aston Villa 2

OUR THOUGHTS

The midlands derby when there really isn’t a proper one on offer. Interesting enough though, after Aston Villa pantsed high flyers Brighton last week, and Wolves defeated the even higher flying Man City. Interesting indeed.

SUNDAY 4:30PM – ARSENAL v MANCHESTER CITY

2023-24 Premier League Week 8 Predictions ARSMCI

THE STAT/S

Man City haven’t lost a Sunday game to Arsenal since 2015, and it has been W6 D2 since, including the last five on a Sunday. Arsenal did have the best points per game record on a Sunday last season. For all their glory last season, Man City’s away record v big six clubs was W2 L3.

OUR PREDICTION

Arsenal 1 Man City 1

OUR THOUGHTS

The high quality clash in the prime broadcast slot, for UK viewers. A great real deal test for Arsenal and a check in for Man City after their shock loss to Wolves.

2023 NRL Grand Final - Panthers v Broncos
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - OCTOBER 01: Nathan Cleary and Isaah Yeo of the Panthers hold aloft the Provan-Summons Trophy after winning the 2023 NRL Grand Final match between Penrith Panthers and Brisbane Broncos at Accor Stadium on October 01, 2023 in Sydney, Australia. (Photo by Matt King/Getty Images)

What an NRL Grand Final for the ages. The underdogs Broncos looking to have broken the dominant Panthers Premiership stranglehold, only for Penrith to show their champion team credentials with a stunning comeback, orchestrated by Nathan Cleary. Where a hat trick of tries was not enough to stop a hat trick of premierships and ascension into legend status. To take all the excitement and fun out of the emotional roller coaster is our 2023 NRL Grand Final Stats & Team of the Week.

First we have our Team of the Week, which takes some of the key player stats from the 2023 NRL Grand Final and using various scoring methods come up with the best players in their positions from the weekend of the NRL that was.

Then there’s additional player stats and points of interest from the big match. What better way to end the NRL season than with a bunch of stats or arguable Team of the Week.

2023 NRL Grand Final Stats

Here are the best of all the stats on offer below.

  • Broncos made 11 errors compared to the Panthers 1. Penrith’s previous best was 7 errors, so the Grand Final was some kind of display. Brisbane’s average error rate for the season was 11, so on track with the season.
  • Dylan Edwards ran for over 100 metres more than the next best player involved in the game.
  • It’s the first time Penrith have conceded 20 points or more in a finals match since the 2020 Grand Final loss to Melbourne.
  • It was the first time this season that either team had registered over 50 missed tackles in a single game.
  • It was Penrith’s first win at the Olympic Stadium over Brisbane, having lost the previous five clashes there.

EVERYDAY NEWS – Filling the Footy Void

0

A Canberra man has found a way to fill a long summer without footy.

With no more Friday or Saturday night NRL until next March, Adam was wondering what he was going to do.

“I usually watch a bit of cricket or see whatever movie the misso and kids put on, but they were out last night at the in-laws.”

Adam was flicking through Kayo when he found the Adelaide vs Brisbane NBL game.

“The more I watched, the more I got into it. It was pretty entertaining.”

Adam then stayed up to watch the later Perth vs Tasmania game.

“That one was even better. Tassie led early, Perth got out to a big lead, but Tassie nearly got them in the end.”

While he’s happy to watch as a neutral fan and won’t ‘adopt’ a team, Adam is planning to watch every Friday and Saturday night NBL game.

“I used to watch the Cannons and Capitals back in the day, but I lost interest when they left. I’d forgotten how entertaining basketball is. If Canberra gets back in, then I’ll be really invested.”

Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.

Here are some of our favourite stats from the match H2H stats below. But read on for ore….

  • Aston Villa have lost just one home game v Brighton (W11 D3 L1).
  • Arsenal have won all three games v Bournemouth on a Saturday, and scored exactly three goals in all three games.
  • Man Utd have lost both of their games to London clubs this season.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 League games v Spurs (W8 D3).
  • Fulham had the fifth best home record for midweek games last season. Chelsea had the second worst away record.

2023-24 English Premier League Week 7 Predictions – Match by Match H2H Stats Previews

Our big, beautiful full visual preview of each game is below.

More stats than you could probably ever want or need, for now.

SATURDAY 12:30PM – ASTON VILLA v BRIGHTON

2023-24 Premier League Week 7 Predictions AVLBHA

THE STAT/S

All of Brighton’s games so far this season have seen over 2.5 goals. Aston Villa have won the last four games between these sides and scored exactly two goals in all four. Aston Villa have lost just one home game v Brighton (W11 D3 L1).

OUR PREDICTION

Aston Villa 2 Brighton 2

OUR THOUGHTS

What a way to kick off the new weekend of Premier League with the two overachieving sides with great attacks going for it. Should be goals-a-plenty.

SATURDAY 3PM – BOURNEMOUTH v ARSENAL

2023-24 Premier League Week 7 Predictions ARSBOU

THE STAT/S

Arsenal have lost only once to Bournemouth in 14 matches. Arsenal have won all three games v Bournemouth on a Saturday, and scored exactly three goals in all three games.

OUR PREDICTION

Bournemouth 0 Arsenal 3

OUR THOUGHTS

Looks pretty one-sided on paper this one, as it did last season when Arsenal pulled a late win out of their arse-nal.

SATURDAY 3PM – EVERTON v LUTON

2023-24 Premier League Week 7 Predictions EVELUT

THE STAT/S

Everton (D1 L1) are yet to beat a bottom six sides (bottom six at time of match). Luton Town last beat Everton in 1989, ten games ago.

OUR PREDICTION

Everton 1 Luton 1

OUR THOUGHTS

A relegation six pointer this one. Everton are on the improve, and Luton remain winless despite looking slightly better each week. The battle for the promoted club’s first win rages on.

SATURDAY 3PM – MAN UTD v CRYSTAL PALACE

2023-24 Premier League Week 7 Predictions MUNCRY

THE STAT/S

Man Utd have won just 1/4 for home games on a Saturday v Crystal Palace. Man Utd have lost both of their games to London clubs this season.

OUR PREDICTION

Man Utd 1 Crystal Palace 0

OUR THOUGHTS

At least Man Utd aren’t going as bad as Chelsea for big six clubs dissappointments. Crystal Palace are dull this season.

SATURDAY 3PM – NEWCASTLE v BURNLEY

THE STAT/S

Newcastle (W5 D4) are unbeaten in nine home games v Burnley. And last lost to Burnley at home on a Saturday in 1976.

OUR PREDICTION

Newcastle 3 Burnley 0

OUR THOUGHTS

8-0 last week and now play Burnley at home. Could be a big few weeks for the Magpies.

SATURDAY 3PM – WEST HAM  v SHEFFIELD UNITED

2023-24 Premier League Week 7 Predictions WHUSHU

THE STAT/S

Six of the last nine matches at West Ham between West Ham and Sheffield United have ended in a draw.

OUR PREDICTION

West Ham 0 Sheffield Utd 0

OUR THOUGHTS

West Ham’s bright season has slowed at the hands of Man City and Liverpool the last two weeks, but the visit of a side beaten 8-0 last week should provide relief. Unless the Blades do that strange bounce back after a flogging that occasionally happens.

SATURDAY 3PM – WOLVES v MAN CITY

THE STAT/S

Man City have won six straight v Wolves and scored 19 goals in the process. Wolves are 0/2 against big six clubs this season.

OUR PREDICTION

Wolves 0 Man City 4

OUR THOUGHTS

Wolves were beaten by a second string Ipswich Town side in the League Cup midweek. Nuff said. This could be ugly.

SATURDAY 5:30PM – SPURS v LIVERPOOL

THE STAT/S

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 League games v Spurs (W8 D3).

OUR PREDICTION

Spurs 2 Liverpool 2

OUR THOUGHTS

What a clash this promises to be. The Spurs love-fest with Ange continues and Liverpool are shaping up to be Man City’s nearest competitor this season.

SUNDAY 2PM – NOTTINGHAM FOREST v BRENTFORD

THE STAT/S

These teams have only met once on a Sunday with Nottingham Forest winning the 1983 League Cup games by 2-0.

OUR PREDICTION

Nottingham Forest 2 Brentford 0

OUR THOUGHTS

Brentford’s form is slightly concerning but are lucky the promoted sides aren’t going very well. In saying that, they are still above Chelsea. Home win here for sure.

MONDAY 8PM – FULHAM v CHELSEA

THE STAT/S

Fulham had the fifth best home record for midweek games last season. Chelsea had the second worst away record. The last three games between Chelsea and Fulham on a Monday ended in a draw. Fulham are equal top of the clean sheet total with Man City this season.

OUR PREDICTION

Fulham 1 Chelsea 1

OUR THOUGHTS

Surely Chelsea can’t sink much lower. Losing to Fulham would certainly not make them popular.

TUESDAY 7:30PM – LUTON v BURNLEY

2023-24 Premier League Week 7 Predictions LUTBUR

THE STAT/S

Burnley have won three in a row at Luton Town. Burnley also lead the Tuesday match H2H v Luton by 6-2 (+ 1 Draw).

OUR PREDICTION

Luton 2 Burnley 0

OUR THOUGHTS

Second time is a charm, as this game from GW2 finally sees Luton play at home to Burnley, and both of them need a win in a double game week..

The 2023 NRL Grand Final is here, with the Penrith Panthers looking for a rare third straight premiership, and the Brisbane Broncos looking for a first title since 2006. The two teams finished the regular season first and second, and it is hard to argue they weren’t the best two teams all season. But they play in such different styles, which makes picking the winner this Sunday so hard. To help with tipping, friendly wagers between family and friends or a responsible bet, here is our 2023 NRL Grand Final Tips Summary.

Our 2023 NRL Grand Final Tips Summary offers up a few key stats on the major markets of interest for the big game on Sunday, with visuals and some commentary.

We’ve taken as many key H2H and season stats as our brain would allow and come up with an overall average %.

2023 NRL Grand Final Tips - Summary

Verdict: It’s almost too close to call. The above stats just gives it to the Panthers, all things considered.

2023 NRL Grand Final Tips – H2H RECORD

Here is the big H2H Stats Summary that sums up they key results between Penrith and Brisbane.

NRL 2023 Grand Final Stats - H2H

Verdict: – Long term it is Brisbane, recently it is Penrith with the upper hand. From 2020 the Panthers lead 5-1 in H2H with the only win coming in Round 1 this season. But you can’t overlook the H2H on a Sunday or the 5-0 advantage at the Olympic Stadium.

2023 NRL Grand Final Tips – First & Last Try Scorer

These two teams are among the best for first and last try scoring this season, so here are some visuals to show which players are best to keep an eye on.

Verdict: – A few standouts in the first and last try scorer, with Stephen Crichton an excellent chance to open the scoring in the 2023 NRL Grand Final. Brian To’o looks equally capable of scoring the last try too, but we are plumping for a late Broncos charge which ends with a Reece Walsh try to seal the game.

2023 NRL Grand Final Tips – First / Second Half Stats

Just once between these teams has a side led at half time and lost. So the lead at half time is as important as ever, and as you’d expect.

HALF TIME RESULT TO END GAME RESULT

Verdict: Being behind at half doesn’t seem to bother Brisbane as much, so if they are within 8 points, then they can power home to victory.

2023 NRL Grand Final Tips – Try Time

Want to know when both teams score their tries? The below will help to know when the teams most of their tries, and help you make some money.

AFL GRAND FINAL

SATURDAY

As a bandwagonning Brisbane-based sports fan, the Lions making the AFL Grand Final means, we are likely to be one of thousands watching their first full AFL game of the year.

But at least the AFL are in charge of their game enough to keep it to the traditional timeslot of Saturday afternoon.

We shall enjoy the traditional timeslot as temporary visitors to the world of AFL all the same.

GOLF –  RYDER CUP

THURSDAY TO SUNDAY

Golf’s best non Major tournament is here with the classic Europe v USA format.

Unlike the NRL Grand Final, which offers up two of the more unlikeable teams in the competition making it hard to follow either, the Ryder Cup is a lot more one way. You either support USA, or you come from any other country in the world.

The Ryder Cup features Matchplay golf, a very underrated form of the game, along with Skins.

It is enjoyable viewing, something to balance out all the footy hype.

Note: not really a betting option – GurglerBet is not real. Same with the ones below.

THE GURGLERBET DRAW OF THE WEEK

Just because a game is tied doesn’t mean it is boring or you can’t make money from it. Well, it can still be boring in the greater context of the actual game being played, but not the tension that hanging on to a 0-0 for your bet gets you.

We get our leading draw expert and host of the Frankely Speaking podcast that focuses only on draws in football and the related betting on draws – Frankington Stanley. He has scoured the many football divisions from all over the world to provide his best draw option for you.

It’s been a while but Frank is in form and supplies more draw gold, double the gold. Frank selects two of the best from Egypt. Which has been a fertile ground for draws recently.

GURGLER TIP

PENRITH 18 BRISBANE 26

2023 NRL Grand Final Summary

The 2023 NRL Grand Final is set up perfectly really.

On one hand you have the league’s most dominant teams of the NRL era in Penrith Panthers facing a club that has produced a dominant team or two of their own in the past. The Broncos have come a long way since finishing dead last in 2020, and appear to be not suffering any hangover from throwing away a finals spot in 2022.

Penrith are so good and so bloody consistent week in and week out, it is almost impossible to beat them at their own game. They have the best halfback in the world, probably the best lock, and the best lots of things, plus a solid base of a side that have played and won together for the past three seasons.

Luckily the Broncos aren’t a team that will try and out-Penrith the Panthers. Their devil-may-care rugby league will bring errors, penalties, and occasionally abuse of a referee or someone nearby, but they can also explode into life at the drop of a hat. Or a pass to Reece Walsh.

If the Broncos can upset the apple cart of Penrith early with an early blitz of two tries, and the Panthers aren’t used to going behind often, keep the errors to a minimum, then the Broncos can win the 2023 NRL Title. If they go too far behind too early, we can’t see the relentless Panthers machine giving them anything, and a third premiership in a row awaits.

BARELY INTERESTING STATS

  • Broncos have won all five clashes against Penrith at the Olympic Stadium.
  • Penrith have won eight finals games in a row. Conceding 12 points or less on all of those occasions.
  • Penrith have won all three Sunday fixtures this season. Brisbane have lost their only match on a Sunday.
  • Penrith’s worst day for conceding points is Sunday. Their 2023 record for Sunday is 16.7 points compared to their overall 12.4 points.
  • Brisbane have won their last two at the Olympic Stadium. Newcastle have won 9 of their last 11 at the Olympic Stadium.
  • Broncos have conceded zero points in three of their four halves in the finals series compared to Penrith’s two.
  • Penrith have won their last five games v Qld sides on a Sunday.

2023 NRL Grand Final Stats – H2H Stats

Looking for a cheat sheet for the weekend’s upcoming games?

Here’s as much information that we could cram into one size fits all visual.

The Broncos hold the overall record since 1998, but the Panthers have the recent record.

2023 NRL Grand Final Stats – Finals Stats from 1998

Here is each team’s final stats from 1998.

Penrith’s recent domination of NRL trophies has dragged up their overall finals record.

The opposite for Brisbane, whose recent record isn’t great, except for this season of course.

2023 NRL Grand Final Stats – Key Player Stats H2H

Here are the best of the player H2H for the big game this weekend.

We start off at the fullback position where the ever reliable and unsung Dylan Edwards is up against the far more flashy but risky Reece Walsh. Will those steely nerves, fantastic season stats and solidity of Dylan Edwards be the key to the 2023 NRL Grand Final, or will the game be torn apart by Walsh?

You an’t compare players in this game without looking at the the halfbacks, with Nathan Cleary being the benchmark in the competition for years, and Adam Reynolds being the super reliable halfback that he is. But Nathan Cleary’s numbers, despite missing a good chunk of the season shows he is top man.

A double up comparison of wingers really shows just how important the Panthers wingers are to their success. The Broncos have a little catching up to do in this area.

Plus a battle of two key forward group. One between Patrick Carrigan and Isiah Yeo shows just how equally good they are. The other shows Payne Haas’ standing as best prop.

2023 NRL Grand Final Stats – 2023 Season Stats Comparison

There wasn’t much between these teams in 2023, with defense being one stand out – the Panthers were awesome again. They conceded 12 points or less on 15 occasions in 2023.

But the Broncos offer so much in other areas of the field, their attack was OK with just eight points the difference over the 2023 season and finals. The Broncos also lead the two teams for Line Breaks.

One issue with all the Broncos flair is the error rate, as shown below. Reece Walsh not only tops the errors for these two teams, but of all players this season.

The below visuals hopefully tell a story on the 2023 NRL Season and how it could affect the 2023 NRL Grand Final. They show an advantage to the Panthers.

2023 NRL Grand Final Stats – 2023 Final Series Stats Comparison

Here are the stats from both teams just from the 2023 NRL Finals Series so far. And it is pretty close between the top two sides from their two games.

Penrith have scored two more and conceded two less, but the Broncos have conceded zero points in three of their four halves in the finals series compared to Penrith’s two.

The Broncos have a solid 200+ metres advantage for Post Contact metres, but the Panthers have them covered for overall metres. Mainly due to their powerful back three.

Would you believe there is one Line Break and one Tackle Break difference between the sides, with the winner switched between the two?

Broncos have made more errors, which is inline with the season, as is Reece Walsh topping the count.

Panthers have made more tackles, but have the better efficiency.

2023 NRL Grand Final Neutral Supporter Quiz

2023 NRL Grand Final Neutral Supporter Quiz

The 2023 Grand Final Week is here, and for fans of the Broncos and Panthers it is a week of anticipation, nerves and celebrating. For fans of the other 15 teams, and those who casually follow NRL, the question is “Who Do I Support Now?” or “Should I Care At All?” Well let us try and answer that for you with our 2023 NRL Grand Final Neutral Supporter Quiz.

Who to follow this Sunday is a hard question, as both sides can be quite unlikeable at times.

Few would begrudge Penrith’s success, given it is Salary Cap drama free, and reliant on one of rugby league’s greatest nurseries for rugby league talent. Players come through the system, not via an agent, which most should applaud. But sometimes their on and off field arrogance can rub people up the wrong way. With a lot of the dislike aimed at Jarome Luai.

But can a NSW based fan really hate the Panthers enough to support a Queensland side? And the Broncos at that?

Which brings us to the Brisbane based club.

Many fans from most other clubs would have done some or a lot of dancing on the Broncos’ wooden spoon grave in 2020, the first time the club had finished last. Prior to that it was mostly success, and a lot would argue they had similar levels of arrogance that Penrith are accused of now.

And where people don’t like the Panthers Luai, the Broncos have the equally divisive Reece Walsh.

Like Penrith the Broncos can’t necessarily rely on general support from their own state normally, but will spiteful non-Broncos Queensland rugby league fans support Penrith? Probably not.

But it is sounding all a bit too hard. So why not let us decide for you?

We have created our 2023 NRL Grand Final Neutral Supporter Quiz which was a small number of personality / opinion based questions for you to answer, and your response is linked to either side or a third option of officially not caring.

So follow the links below, take the test, and find your club for this Sunday with our 2023 NRL Grand Final Neutral Supporter Quiz.

EVERYDAY NEWS – The Epic Grand Final Week

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA - SEPTEMBER 23: Deven Robertson (left) and Chris Fagan, Senior Coach of the Lions celebrate during the 2023 AFL Second Preliminary Final match between the Brisbane Lions and the Carlton Blues at The Gabba on September 23, 2023 in Brisbane, Australia. A proud Queenslander is making the most of grand final week.

Peter, who now works in Melbourne, will be heading to Sydney for NRL Grand Final festivities, while also watching the AFL Grand Final.

“I’ve supported the mighty Broncs since ’88, so as soon as the boys finished second, I booked my grand final tickets. On the off-chance we didn’t make it, at least I could have a nice week in Sydney and go to the footy. But having my boys in it makes it even sweeter! And our girls weren’t far off making it [the NRLW Grand Final] either.”

Though the rise of the Brisbane Lions has added an extra dimension to his weekend.

“I usually drown out the Aussie Rules talk at work, but like all good Queenslanders I keep an eye on the Lions. So I’ll find a pub to watch the AFL on Saturday. I’ve got a old Lions polo I can wear while I watch it.”

Peter has already made a nuisance of himself on various footy chat groups, boasting about how it’s been an epic year for Queenslanders – with another Origin win and twin grand finals.

“Origin wins are too easy now as the Blues are shit, but a double premiership could be on!”

Peter is also looking into a Vegas trip for Brisbane’s Round 1 game next year.

“The misso’s fine with me taking off to Sydney, but a trip to Yankeeland may be a tougher sell. See how we go.”

Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.
