2024 Round 2 Broncos v South Sydney – BRISBANE BRONCOS 28 – SOUTH SYDNEY 18
Brisbane are on the board in 2024 after a comfortable win at Lang Park.
While it was a scrappy first half, Brisbane did enough to lead 12-0 at half-time.
Souths struck back quickly: tries to Siliva Havili and Davvy Moale levelling the score five minutes into the second half.
But Brisbane dominated from there, with Reece Walsh and Deine Mariner both scoring their second tries of the game.
It wasn’t all good news for Brisbane, with Adam Reynolds going off with a knee injury after 50 minutes and Walsh taking over goalkicking duties.
Latrell Mitchell scored a consolation try in the final minute. The result sets up two Round 3 blockbusters: Penrith against Brisbane at BlueBet Stadium and the Sydney Roosters against Souths at Allianz Stadium (SFS).
FINAL THOUGHT:
South Sydney were terrible again, and their first half was so bad it was almost a thing to marvel at. New ways of giving away the ball and penalties. Like losing an attacking scrum, kicking the ball into your player, and forgetting the new rules on multiple occasions.
Broncos showed glimpses of brilliance but are still not at their 2023 best. They look capable of plenty more and Reece Walsh and Selwyn Cobbo were great.
Souths look like a rabble and look bottom half material for sure right now. And their coach looking at being the first sacking of the season.
Courtesy of nrl.com
After leading the competition in Round 11 last season, South Sydney have won just four of the next 15 games.
Broncos have now won 10 of their last 12 Round 2 games in the NRL.
Souths last lost both of their opening games of the season in 2022.
The last two teams to lose at Suncorp Stadium both scored 18 points.
Brisbane’s victory was just their second win in 12 home games at Suncorp Stadium on a Thursday night.
The loss broke a run of four wins in a row at Suncorp Stadium for Souths. And is a third straight loss to Qld sides anywhere.

An “aggressive and boisterous” video game reality show will air on Channel 9 from Easter Sunday.
Noob Hunters features 16 games, divided into eight ‘pros’ (professional Esports competitors) and eight ‘noobs’ (enthusiasts amateurs).
The first eight episodes see the pros and noobs play each other in a round robin format, with one video game across all eight fixtures (to be decided via Noob Hunters’ social media pages). The 16 gamers will be ranked based on high scores, with the top eight playing knockout quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a best-of-five grand final series with a variety of game genres. Hamish and Andy will host, while a panel of local video game journalists will award bonus points based on ‘style of play’, ‘smack talk’, and ‘extravagance of celebrations’.
Peter Foges, the show’s producer (and former Esports champion), encourages the pros to embrace the mismatches.
“Most reality shows thrive on conflict and drama. So we want our pros to be as aggressive and boisterous as possible. Celebrate wins with style and rub the noobs’ noses into it. If the noobs cry on air, then even better. That stuff is perfect for our TV promos and social media content,” said Peter.
”We wanted to call it Noob Pwners, but the dinosaurs at Nine said ‘nobody will understand it or know how to pronounce it.’ If you don’t know what ‘pwners’ means, then you probably play s****y mobile games and don’t deserve to watch this show!”
