EVERYDAY NEWS – Noob Hunters

An “aggressive and boisterous” video game reality show will air on Channel 9 from Easter Sunday.

Noob Hunters features 16 games, divided into eight ‘pros’ (professional Esports competitors) and eight ‘noobs’ (enthusiasts amateurs).

The first eight episodes see the pros and noobs play each other in a round robin format, with one video game across all eight fixtures (to be decided via Noob Hunters’ social media pages). The 16 gamers will be ranked based on high scores, with the top eight playing knockout quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a best-of-five grand final series with a variety of game genres. Hamish and Andy will host, while a panel of local video game journalists will award bonus points based on ‘style of play’, ‘smack talk’, and ‘extravagance of celebrations’.

Peter Foges, the show’s producer (and former Esports champion), encourages the pros to embrace the mismatches.

“Most reality shows thrive on conflict and drama. So we want our pros to be as aggressive and boisterous as possible. Celebrate wins with style and rub the noobs’ noses into it. If the noobs cry on air, then even better. That stuff is perfect for our TV promos and social media content,” said Peter.

”We wanted to call it Noob Pwners, but the dinosaurs at Nine said ‘nobody will understand it or know how to pronounce it.’ If you don’t know what ‘pwners’ means, then you probably play s****y mobile games and don’t deserve to watch this show!”
