Premier League Gameweek 7 Summary
SATURDAY 12:30PM – EVERTON v CHELSEA
Stats: Everton have lost only one of their last nine games v Chelsea at home – W6 D2 L1. Everton have kept a clean sheet in seven of those nine games and Chelsea have scored a single goal in the other two matches. Everton’s record from the last 12 Saturday games at home v Chelsea is W7 D3 L2. Chelsea are conceding at 2.33 Goals per game away from home this season.
Verdict: Two clubs with very different ideas on transfer spending and squad numbers and spend, yet they meet as 5th and 6th placed sides.
Prediction: Everton 2 Chelsea 2
SATURDAY 3PM – FULHAM v HULL
Stats: Fulham have won the last four games v Hull, all without conceding. These teams have met six times in the Premier League, and Hull have the H2H advantage by 4-1 with one draw. Fulham are D1 L2 at home this season so far and only Crystal Palace have conceded more goals at home. Hull are W1 D1 L1 away.
Verdict: Getting to must win territory already for Fulham. That’ll be a first for the season if it happens. Hull continue to over-achieve.
Prediction: Fulham 1 Hull 1
SATURDAY 3PM – BRENTFORD v LIVERPOOL
Stats: Since Brentford have returned to the Premier League, their record at home to Liverpool is W2 D1 L2. Those games are good for goals though with 22 goals across five matches. Brentford are still unbeaten this season (W2 D4) and are W2 D1 at home, conceding just one goal so far at home. Liverpool are unbeaten away from home W2 D1 – just one of four teams left after three matches that remain unbeaten away, Man City, Everton and Brentford are the others.
Verdict: Should be a little easier for Liverpool this week than a fired-up Man City, but then again, Brentford aren’t easy to beat either. At least Liverpool scored 6 goals in Europe midweek.
Prediction: Brentford 1 Liverpool 1
SATURDAY 3PM – MANCHESTER CITY v IPSWICH
Stats: Man City won by a combined 10-1 last times Ipswich were in the Premier League, but at least they scored the first goal in the first match. Man City have won their only match against a promoted side so far, while Ipswich are two losses from two games v big six clubs.
Verdict: Ipswich fans will be hoping Man City took out all their anger against Liverpool last week. At least Ipswich have won three games this early in the season.
Prediction: Man City 4 Ipswich 1
SATURDAY 5:30PM – NEWCASTLE v ASTON VILLA
Stats: Aston Villa won 2-0 at Newcastle last season but failed to win in the 17 visits prior to that with the next most recent win being in 2005. In the Premier League since 1992, Newcastle’s record at home to Aston Villa is W18 D8 L3. At home on a Saturday Newcastle are W3 D3 from their last six, anywhere on a Saturday Aston Villa are W4 D4 L2 from the last ten games. Newcastle are unbeaten at home so far this season W1 D2.
Verdict: Aston Villa’s slow start continues to the season, in the league. A 6-0 win in Europe midweek shows their danger. Bad news for Newcastle who are the only team in the league without a consecutive result this season so far.
Prediction: Newcastle 1 Aston Villa 1
SUNDAY 2PM – BRIGHTON v CRYSTAL PALACE
Stats: Crystal Palace are unbeaten in the last four clashes with their rival – W3 D1 and won the last two at Brighton. Crystal Palace’s record on a Sunday v Brighton is W3 D2 L1 including W3 D1 at Brighton on a Sunday. According to our draws article from last weekend – local derbies or rivalries are more likely to end in a draw. Brighton are W2 D1 at home conceding one goal in total, while Crystal Palace are W1 D1 L1 away averaging one goal per match. Brighton have scored eight goals in three games at home.
Verdict: The best football rivalry of the weekend.
Prediction: Brighton 1 Crystal Palace 1
SUNDAY 2PM – LEEDS v MANCHESTER UTD
Stats: Leeds were undefeated v Man Utd last season W1 D1. Man Utd are W5 D2 from their last seven visits to Leeds, two games being League Cup ties. In the Premier League since 1992 Manchester United are W17 D9 L5 v Leeds. Man Utd are unbeaten in their last six trips to Leeds on a Sunday, with a last win for Leeds in 1995. Man Utd are W1 D2 L1 on a Sunday this season, Leeds are two draws from two games.
Verdict: Not quite Brighton v Palace, but Leeds don’t like Man Utd much, and they will be very happy to win and stay in touch of the top 6, while pushing Man Utd further down the pecking order.
Prediction: Leeds 2 Man Utd 1
SUNDAY 2PM – BOURNEMOUTH v SUNDERLAND
Stats: These teams have only met 12 times and Sunderland hold the H2H advantage winning 6-2 with four draws. Sunderland are W4 D1 L1 at Bournemouth. Last season’s fixture at Bournemouth ended 1-1. These teams have never met on a Sunday, and this season Sunderland are W1 L1 and Bournemouth have lost both games.
Verdict: They forgot to put this on at 3pm on a Saturday. Fans of Sunderland might have to leave on Saturday to get there.
Prediction: Bournemouth 1 Sunderland 0
SUNDAY 4:30PM – NOTTINGHAM FOREST v ARSENAL
Stats: The last two games between Nottingham Forest and Arsenal in Nottingham have ended 0-0. Nottingham Forest’s home record v Arsenal recently has been quite good – the last 11 matches have ended W4 D3 L4. Nottingham Forest lead 3-2 in the Sunday H2H v Arsenal, but Arsenal won the last Sunday game 5-0 in 2022. Nottingham Forest remain winless at home this season – D1 L2 and are the only team left not to score a goal at home.
Verdict: Both teams dominated stats last weekend yet only one team won. Forest owner must be at least keeping an eye on the new manager market already.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest 0 Arsenal 3
MONDAY 8PM – TOTTENHAM v COVENTRY
