EVERYDAY NEWS – The new Facebook Rules

Facebook is tightening their restrictions to combat ‘dirty deleters’.

With large portions of social media turning into verbal warfare between strangers, Facebook administrators are looking at harsher punishments for people who “Throw their toys out of the cot,” to quote one ex-pat Australian employee of Facebook (who wished to stay anonymous), to try and keep the platform relatively civil.

The new rules are summarised as follows.

  1. Users who ‘Dirty Delete’ three times in a month will be required to have an one-on-one Zoom meeting with one of our Standards and Practice staff. They will be required to explain each instance of ‘Dirty Deleting’. If their answers aren’t satisfactory, they will face a 30-, 60-, or 90-day ban depending on the severity of their deletions. Upon returning from the ban, users will risk their account being deactivated permanently if they breach the ‘three strikes’ rule again.
  2. A ‘Dirty Delete’ is defined as a comment or profile post that is deleted within 24 hours of the original posting and does not reappear elsewhere on Facebook.
  3. If a comment/post reappears within 24 hours because the user changed their mind (and they were unable to or forgot to edit the comment), or was accidentally posted in the wrong group (or the user’s own profile instead of a specific group), then it doesn’t count as a ‘Dirty Delete’. Users are allowed to change their minds and try again.
  4. If users find themselves regularly ‘Dirty Deleting’ because they are easily offended by the reactions of strangers, then we would strongly suggest they take a voluntary break from Facebook until they learn to deal with criticism like an adult.
