2026 Canadian F1 Grand Prix Prix-view – Race Potential Rating

F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST? 8 / 10 – It’s plenty fast with long straights and fast sweepers, plus the proximity of the walls just makes it feel that extra bit faster

ACTION? 10 / 10 – Maybe we’re getting a bit over-excited after this race follows Miami, but the Canadian Grand Prix is one that usually guarantees action. The tricky first corner complex, hairpin, sweepers, and the Wall of Champions provide enough chances for action.

BIG HISTORY? – 9 / 10 – The Canadian Grand Prix has been here at Montreal since 1978 with a race most years, and there were Canadian Grands Prix at a few other track prior to 1978. There have been many memorable races, and a few tragic moments, like 1982 where young Riccardo Paletti died after slamming into the back of the stalled pole sitter at full pace. But for action there’s the 1989 wet classic, 1998 where the race needed a Safety Car for a chunk of grass, and the longest Grand Prix of all time in 2011 when Jenson Button won after four hours.

INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 2 /10 – The Weather Channel says very little chance of rain across the weekend. That’s ok, can’t have everything.

RACE POTENTIAL RATING 78%Possibly the best race of the year, where stuff usually happens.

2026 Canadian  F1 Grand Prix Prix-view – Stats Summary

Want to know if your favourite driver for this weekend is a master of the track or the track is a master of them? Here then are some barely interesting facts and stats.

BEST OF STATS….

  • George Russell has two Pole Positions in a row in Canada.
  • Lewis Hamilton has made Q3 at every attempt in Canada. Same for Oscar Piastri, Kimi Antonelli and Franco Colapinto on many fewer races.
  • Lando Norris’ second place here in 2024 is his only points finish.
  • Esteban Ocon has finished in the points in every race he has entered here.
  • Lance Stroll has finished in the points five of seven races.
  • If Lewis Hamilton wins from pole he will take the outright record for wins and poles from Michael Schumacher, and Ferrari will take the pole record outright.
  • 7th place on the grid is the lowest starting position that a winner has come from in the Canadian Grand Prix since 2000, and it’s happened twice. One car has scored a podium from 20th place on the grid. One driver has finished 4th after starting 22nd on the grid, when there was that many cars.
