So if you’re unsure of who to tip, and if your team is going to win, get your pens ready.
2024 NRL Magic Round Stats Extra
And here is our bunch O stats on NRL Magic Round.
Good news for South Sydney heading into this weekend. It appears they have signed Wayne Bennett to save them and they have a 100% record at Magic Round.
Bulldogs and Dragons are yet to win a Magic Round game.
Thankfully the Thursday game was abandoned after one season.
Bulldogs and Canberra are meeting for the third time in Magic Round. Both teams have the two worst Suncorp Stadium records.
Defying a ground that has seen five games before it, Sunday has the highest average points scored.
Last season aka 2023 saw the fewest points scored for Magic Round.
Suncorp Stadium Winning Stats
Since all the games are at Suncorp Stadium, why not look into some stats around the NRL at The Cauldron.
Like who’s best at Suncorp Stadium of all time, or recently. Which days are teams particularly good and bad. And who is a point scoring machine.
The first game of Magic Round features the teams with the worst and second worst record at Suncorp Stadium – Canberra and the Bulldogs.
Broncos have won their last three games at Suncorp Stadium as the away side.
Gold Coast have won their last two games at Suncorp Stadium. Newcastle won there earlier in the season v Dolphins.
Roosters are W1 L1 on a Saturday at Suncorp Stadium. Cronulla are W1 L3.
Cowboys have lost their last three at Suncorp Stadium on a Saturday. South Sydney have won their last three on a Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.
Penrith have won eight in a row at Suncorp Stadium and 13 of their last 14 there. Plus both games there v Warriors.
Parramatta have lost four of their last five at Suncorp Stadium on a Sunday.
Wests Tigers are W3 L3 at Suncorp Stadium on a Sunday. Dolphins are W1 L1 as the away side at Suncorp Stadium. Dolphins did beat Tigers earlier in the season as the home side.
Formula One lands in Europe for the first time this season, on a classic track that has made a comeback thanks to Covid, but was cancelled last season because of weather. Max Verstappen would have won it anyway. Talking of European, classic and Max Verstappen winning, our 2024 Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix Preview will give you a bit of everything without promising anything ahead of the upcoming big weekend of F1.
The Gurgler’s 2024 Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix Preview brings some thoughts on the race itself, a few bold predictions here and there, a more than a few barely interesting stats.
Essentially a quick summary of what a casual F1 fan needs in the shortest possible time for your convenience.
By Sentoan – Own work, CC BY 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=14323726
The track map looks a bit like a seal, with only the ball for balancing on its nose missing.
It’s a classic track that features natural elevation, which tends to go missing on modern tracks or the many street tracks.
The straightened section on pit straight makes sense, and Acque Minerali with its dipping, rising challenge is good watching.
We’d love the Variante Alta chicane to be straightened too, then leading into a hairpin at Rivazza for a great late lap overtaking place.
But it is fast enough, and difficult enough to prove a challenge.
2024 Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix Preview – Race Rating
The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.
So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.
FAST? 7/10 – It’s fast enough with some good long straights. Safety improvements have seen the absurdly fast first third of the lap slowed down, but that’s probably a good thing in these cars.
ACTION? 5/10 – It’s a 50-50 track for action. Some of the great races remembered were back to back Alonso v Schumacher battles, but they were essentially a slightly slower car holding up a slightly faster one for 30 odd laps. Rain helps, and that does come every now and again. Too much last year. And the first corner will probably wipe out a few hopes.
BIG HISTORY? – 8/10 The race has had three different Grand Prix names – Italy, San Marino and its current title Emilia Romagna. Which beats San Marino, because the race is actually within the area of the name of the GP. Although, without this race, very few people would know San Marino existed. Sadly Imola is remembered for one F1’s worst days in 1994, but it has also seen the Turbo era of the 1980’s, the blaring V10’s of the 1990s, and a pile of Michael Schumacher wins. It goes back a while. The race returned in 2021 when Europe held a lot of races because of Covid.
INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 8/10 The Weather Channel says between 40% and 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms in the PM from Friday to Sunday. That’s very good to know.
RACE RATING 70% – It’s a good old track that will probably disappear soon for another race in America or the Middle East. So enjoy it while it lasts.
2024 Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix Preview – Stats
Want to know if your favourite driver for this weekend is a master of the track or the track is a master of them? Here then are some barely interesting facts and stats.
The lowest qualifying position a driver has come from to win this race since 2001 is third. With a 50-50 split for the front row.
George Russell is the only driver who has been at all three Emilia Romagna Grands Prix since 2020 who has not made it into Q3 at least once. He’s also DNFd 2/3 of those races.
Good news for Daniel Ricciardo fans he has the fifth best average grid slot for this Grand Prix of the current drivers.
A pole sitter has only missed out on a podium on once in ten races from 2001.
If either Ferrari or Williams take pole at this race they will hold the pole position track record by themselves for the whole history of F1 races at Imola.
DRIVER GRID POSITION vs RACE RESULT – CURRENT DRIVERS
TEAM GRID POSITION vs RACE RESULT
HISTORIC DRIVER RESULTS
99 = a DNF. Grid position 20 is overstated as that was also used for cars starting in pitlane.

It will still be a Red Bull win and pole, but Lando Norris with give Max Verstappen a hard time in both. Oscar Piastri will qualify on the second row too.
Lance Stroll will hit someone at the first chicane.
It will be Logan Sargeant’s last race in an F1 car at Imola. He’ll be replaced after Monaco. If not before.
Daniel Ricciardo will have a decent race and finish just outside the points, just before a career saving podium in Monaco.
Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes will be rubbish and he will complain about it all race.
Kick Sauber drivers will be as invisible as ever.
Yuki Tsunoda will qualify 6th.

As ever there were star performances, work horses giving it their all, and some who lit up the field. But which players were the best of the best you ask? We’ll let the stats do the talking and separate the Wheat/Chaff to present the 2024 NRL Round 10 Team of the Week & Player Stats.

A veteran pop band is preparing to release their first new album in over 20 years.
After the success of their Stan special, ‘Five Fires’ are finally ready to release original music. And they’ve been teasing their fans with regular updates on social media.
Sarah has been busy on the band’s TikTok page promoting the three upcoming singles, with the 10-track album (The Fire is Back) released in October.
“We’re super excited about these new songs as they show off all facets of the band,” said Sarah in a recent video.
“The first song, ‘Girls Night’, is a fun, upbeat dance-pop tune about leaving a doomed relationship and getting back out with the girls to embrace single life again. It’s about having fun and living in the moment.
“The second one, ‘I’m Coming Home’, is a nice little country-pop song about going back to your hometown for the holidays and reminiscing about your old life.
“But the third is one we hope REALLY gets people talking. It’s a beautiful balled called ‘I Wish You Were Still Mine’. It’s about getting over a sad breakup and moving on, only for all the hurt to return when you see on social media that they’ve got a new girlfriend. We want this one to be the BIG anthem and we put a lot of work into making the chorus as catchy as possible. This will be the theme song for all the broken hearts trying – and failing – to move on. EVERYONE loves a big, soaring ballad that gives them all the feels!”
Sarah said all three songs will drop on Spotify in the coming weeks.
“I can’t wait to hear our fans sing along to our new songs when we start The Fire is Back tour in August. And the rest of the album will be just as diverse, with fun songs to get you up and dancing, deep and soulful songs that make you think, and a little bit of stuff in-between.”

PaleyFest LA 2024 - "Family Guy" 25th Anniversary Celebration
HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 19: (L-R) Alec Sulkin, Alex Borstein, Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green, Mila Kunis and Rich Appel arrive at Paley Fest LA 2024 - "Family Guy" 25th Anniversary Celebration at Dolby Theatre on April 19, 2024 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)
An anticipated marathon of a classic animated sitcom has been cut short.
Adam and his mates were looking forward to spending Saturday night watching a Family Guy marathon– a show that they hadn’t watched since the early 2000s.
“I used to love this show when it started and the boys and I figured it was about time to break out the beers, order a few pizzas, and give it a rewatch, with episodes chosen at random,” said Adam.
But it quickly became clear why they hadn’t watched the show in so long.
“The first episode was full of random cut-away gags and shoehorned 1980s pop culture references. We got through that one, but when the second one had the exact same thing we decided to scrap it. We get it Family Guy writers, you loved the 1980s, move on!”
After abandoning the marathon, the boys watched the Melbourne vs Cronulla-Sutherland NRL game on Kayo before a Simpsons Movie/South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut double feature.
“Family Guy being so garbage actually worked out well. It was a brilliant footy game and the two movies cheered everyone up. The Simpsons one was decent, but the South Park was excellent!” said Adam, “I’d forgotten how funny it was and the songs were brilliant.”

2024 NRL Round 10 Dolphins v Manly – DOLPHINS 30 MANLY 24. The one-minute match report – giving you the bare minimum NRL round up in the bare minimum of time.
The Dolphins consolidated their top four position with an outstanding win over Manly on a wet Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium.
The first half saw plenty of points with seven tries scored in all, and the second half saw plenty of talking points, and enough points for the Dolphins to get home.
Both teams traded a try each in the first 20 minutes, with Manly’s looking ominously soft, and the Dolphins Euan Aitken snavelling a fine intercept on the halfway line and ran away to score.
Manly skipped ahead with two tries in four minutes and with last season’s thrashing on the minds of Dolphins fans, they could be forgiven for worrying a touch. But they needn’t worry as it turned out.
As the Dolphins put on three tries in five minutes from the 33rd minute to take a 20-16 lead into half time. The middle try of that run was pure magic from Trai Fuller as he made a line break on half way then chipped over the head of Tom Trobojevic and was in the right place to grab the lucky bounce. Connelly Lemuelu scored the first of those tries running a good line off Kodi Nikorima and Mark Nicholls sealed the half time lead after supporting a Jake Averillo break.
The second half saw the lead change a few times as Manly scored first, followed by penalty goals to each side leaving Manly ahead 24-22. The penalty goal coming not long after Jesse Bromwich was penalised for a high shot that could only be described as light as a feather, and it was after Manly reviewed a knock on.
Not long after Max Plath came from the field after he was hit in the head with a high shot while now far off the ground.
With the game in the balance it was the home side who took the game by the scruff of the neck as Jack Bostock scored in the corner and Jamayne Isaako converted from the sideline. In the process Tom Trbojevic appeared to injure leg trying to tackle Jack Bostock as the Manly fullback wiped out a cameraman, he didn’t return to the field, and Manly was down another outside back after losing Jason Saab early.
Talking of scruff of the neck, the Dolphins received a penalty when Manly’s Ethan Bullemoor used Herbie Farnworth’s for fun with a few minutes to go. A penalty and two points followed and the Dolphins edged out to a 30-24 lead they weren’t to relinquish.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
After a slightly mixed game last weekend Trai Fuller was magic again for the Dolphins, with his solo try in the 35th minute a play that will be on his highlight reel forever. Not just that moment of brilliance, he made some key last man tackles again, and was very safe under the high ball again. That’s to go with all the runs he made, where every run saw maximum effort to break the line.
With the Hammer back next week, it will be a shame when he presumably is replaced at fullback, and although the temptation will be to keep him in the side, you also may not want to upset the current balance of the bench. A tough ones for Wayne Bennett. At a minimum we can be thankful there’s such a talent as backup in a key position, and State of Origin is just around, and Trai Fuller will be the first person the club should to fill in.
Herbie Farnworth’s return was very good, although there looked to be an injury scare for him in the first five minutes. Herbie topped the Post Contact metres and Tackle Breaks, was fifth for run metres with 143 in total. Throw in a line break assist and try assists too. soldi stats.
With more stars due back over the next month, one does have to admire the spirit in the team to keep winning. Same with dealing with the Wayne Bennett coaching media circus. It’s 2/2 since that speculation really heated up after Souths sacked Jason Demetriou.
A few unsung heroes for the Dolphins if we can, and from different parts of the field. Firstly Jack Bostock must be acknowledged for the way he has become such an NRL fixture. He is safe under the high ball and is always looking for work in attack. Mark Nicholls too gives everything and got a sweet reward with a try just before half time. He’s always up for a hit up and sniffs out a try better than a lot of big men in the middle.
One thing we’d like to see more is the offload. When the Dolphins are on song they come quite regularly, and again from Thursday’s game when the offload started to appear again it coincided with an uptick in form. Sometimes the Dolphins could be accused of being a bit one-dimensional in attack, so a little more flair might be needed as the big fixtures come along.
And Ray Stone is the greatest. Always.

BEST OF STATS
That’s now three wins from three v sides in the top eight (at the time of the match).
The win also sees the Dolphins remain one of only two teams that are unbeaten against Sydney sides this season. Melbourne are the other and playing Cronulla this weekend.
Dolphins are W2 L1 in their short history of games on a Thursday, and tonight’s win was the first at Suncorp Stadium on a Thursday (Overall Record W1 L1)
The game could be barely closer for possession and territory stats. Both were between 49% and 51% for the overall stats and the half results.
Going back to 2014, Manly have lost nine of their last 11 games at Suncorp Stadium.
Manly have won only one away game on a Thursday night from nine attempts.

A Brisbane man has found a new hobby – ‘rage quitting’ Facebook groups.
Adam likes to join deliberately offensive Facebook groups, posts the vilest thing he can think of, then – when the inevitable criticism comes in – delete the post and leave the group before he gets caught.
Though rather than being a troublemaker, Adam says he loves the rush of ‘rage quitting’ and has ‘rage quit’ five Facebook groups in the past month.
“I don’t know what it is, but the thrill I get from throwing my toys out of the cot and quitting a group on purpose is fun. If I’m feeling really snarky, I’ll add a comment like ‘I’m sick of this group and the negative feedback. Goodbye!’ Which sets people off even more.”
Though it seems like the fun could be ending, with Adam given an official warning by the Facebook admin team and he faces a 30-day ban if he ‘rage quits’ again.
“I thought I was keeping ahead of the Zuccbots, but I guess I couldn’t run forever. I actually like Facebook, so I might ease off for a bit as I don’t want to go anywhere else. Twitter is a cesspool, Instagram is boring, and TikTok is full of narcissists. Maybe I’ll just join a drama-filled Simpsons meme group and stir the pot there, but not too much this time.”
