2022 Miami Grand Prix Results
THE LAPS THAT MATTERED

Didn’t see the race live? Don’t have time to watch the whole race? Well here are the top laps where stuff happened. We write these live as we go, sort of like a minute by minute for the football, but marginally more interesting.

Lap 0 –  It’s a packed pre-race grid with loads of celebrities and a poor Martin Brundle attempting to interview some of them. Closer to the actual Grand Prix the two Aston Martin cars will start from pitlane, for Stroll he’ll miss out on starting 10th on the grid, and Vettel gets a chance to check his underwear again. (Long story short F1 bosses clamping down on underwear and Vettel wore his on the outside during weekend in protest).

It’s hot there in Miami which isn’t surprising, but we’ll see that heat offers up a surprise during the race. Maybe the teams can cool off in the fake Marina.

GRID – LEC SAI VER PER BOT HAM GAS NOR TSU STR

Lap 1 –  Leclerc gets off the line best and leads into the first corner, Max Verstappen sneaks by Carlos Sainz into the first corner to take second (great move). All the drivers appear to behave themselves into turn one, which is a surprise and a mild disappointment. Lewis Hamilton is the big loser of the first lap dropping down to 8th – replays of start show he nearly ran up the arse of Perez into the first corner. His team mate George Russell also fared badly dropping down to 15th from 12th. The big winner was Fernando Alonso who bobs up in 7th up four places, he’s one place ahead of Hamilton which will make the Briton happy. Daniel Ricciardo also gained three places which is nice but is still 12th.

ORDER – LEC VER SAI PER BOT GAS ALO HAM NOR TSU

Lap 3 –  Lewis Hamilton gets past Fernando Alonso a lot quicker than we first thought. Perhaps it’s the performing enhancing earrings the FIA want to take from him (another long and boring story).

Lap 6 –  Lewis Hamilton moves up another place to 6th, and back where he started the race after passing Pierre Gasly on the pit straight. Seems the pre race doom and gloom about lack of overtaking isn’t quite true. Further back Mick Schumacher takes 10th place Yuki Tsunoda, the Haas’ going very well with Magnussen in 11th. Both have made good ground from the start.

ORDER – LEC VER SAI PER BOT HAM GAS ALO NOR MSC

Lap 7 –  Zhou becomes the first retiree from the Miami Grand Prix for those betting on that result. The multiple Safety Car betting option appears less likely now.

Lap 8 –  Max Verstappen is a little bit faster than Leclerc at the moment and gets within one second and into DRS territory.

Lap 9 –  Max Verstappen overtakes Charles Leclerc for the lead of the Miami Grand Prix into the first corner. Leclerc doesn’t make life too hard, he’ll have his chance with DRS around the lap somewhere. DRS isn’t enough, and Max Verstappen creeps further and further ahead.

Lap 11 –  Verstappen is now a second and a half in front of Leclerc and pulling away easily. Looks like we know who the fastest car today is, but will the Red Bull last the distance? Verstappen has a 50% DNF ratio this season.

ORDER VER LEC SAI PER BOT HAM GAS ALO NOR MAG

Lap 14 –  George Russell overtakes Daniel Ricciardo for 11th. Doesn’t sound like much, but he does have the hard tyres on and won’t have to pit for a while.

Lap 15 –  Verstappen has stretched the lead to Leclerc to three seconds and is doing it easy with the fastest lap in his pocket.

Lap 17 –  TV showing the best battle on track full of Aston Martins with Haas and Williams cars. And Fernando Alonso who leads the group in 12th. At least it’s racing we guess.

Lap 19 –  Even more pointless (as above group of car were outside the top ten) was yet another glimpse of David Beckham from the TV coverage. F1’s need to show celebrities to justify how great they are is almost as poor as TV News that needs to show how their news story is on the news in another country.

Lap 20 –  Sergio Perez complaining about a loss of power. Is this the Red Bull curse again? Will it affect Verstappen at the front eventually.

Lap 23 –  Quick check on the order as Max Verstappen sets another fastest lap. Charles Leclerc beats him a lap later. Lewis Hamilton pitted by the way dropped from 6th to 7th in case you were wondering. This race really needs a Safety Car.

ORDER – VER LEC SAI PER BOT HAM RUS RIC OCO GAS

Lap 25 –  Leaders pit stops start in earnest. Who Earnest? You may ask, and wasn’t this Grand Prix in Miami. Sorry, got a bit distracted there. Leclerc drops to 4th from 2nd. Max Verstappen pits a lap later and comes out of the pits in second.

Lap 30 –  Top four have all pitted now as has Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. George Russell has not stopped. Daniel Ricciardo hasn’t and is only delaying his eventual misery by staying out. Esteban Ocon is doing a good job in 10th from dead last on the grid with no stops.

Lap 32 –  Ricciardo pits and drops to 17th, and is now stuck behind the train of Haas and Aston Martins. We told you so above.

Lap 39 –  Chat of possible weather on Team radios, which would be great. Verstappen is over seven seconds in front of Leclerc. Alonso and Gasly look to clash, it was ambitious from Alonso. He gets a five second penalty for his troubles.

Lap 41 –  CRASH – Lando Norris clashes with Pierre Gasly and flings himself into the wall. It was at a reasonably fast section too. Virtual Safety Car to begin with then a full Safety Car after a minute of that.

Replays show Gasly running off line before the crash and coming back onto the track and getting in the path of a speedy Lando Norris. Lando Norris’ basketball helmet is pretty cool.

George Russell finally pits and ends up 7th. Perez pits for Mediums. Ocon makes his only stop for the day.

ORDER – VER LEC SAI VET BOT HAM RUS ALO MSC MAG

Lap 43 –  Lewis Hamilton gets grumpy on team radio when they ask if he wants to pit. Hamilton telling his team it’s their job to do the strategy. Still behind the safety car.

Lap 47 –  SAFETY CAR ENDS

Cars are bunched up but no major moves happened. Kevin Magnussen and Lance Stroll clash on the lap but rejoin.

Lap 49 –  Perez v Sainz is a decent little battle to watch.

Lap 50 –  Even better battle with Bottas v two Mercedes for fifth. Throw in that Charles Leclerc is also right on Verstappen’s tail now too and this race has come alive.

Lap 52 –  Perez dived down the inside of Sainz going into the first corner and temporarily takes 3rd, but runs deep and is replaced by Carlos Sainz back into third place

Lap 53 –  Top two are still close but Leclerc not just close enough.

Lap 54 –  Vettel T-Bones Mick Schumacher. Not the steak, but an accident. Both continue somehow. Just a front wing change for the Haas.

Lap 55 –  Charles Leclerc’s gap to Max Verstappen is more than one second, so no DRS and no chance for an overtake.

FINAL LAP –  Verstappen keeps Leclerc at bay for first and a big win. The two numbers twos are third and fourth. The Dutchman did it easy really and it looks ominous for the other teams this season.

FINAL ORDER – VER LEC SAI PER RUS HAM BOT OCO ALB STR

RACE RATING

Was it a good race, loads of action, tense, or just a big, fat, snooze-fest.

We rate the big race itself so we know which races to go back and watch in the off season or one to simply remember the winner for the post season quiz nights.

SEASON IMPORTANCE –  5/10

Seemed the celebrities were more important than the race itself. Poor Martin Brundle on the grid walk talking to people he didn’t know instead of the drivers most had tuned in to see.

ON TRACK ACTION – 5 /10

There was an overtake for the lead. There was a nice long train of cars with occasional trading of positions from time to time. And a decent sized prang. But in between it was meh.

ENDING 9 / 10

The crash and safety helped break up the last part of the race. It led to some great battles on the track, which kept those entertained.

OVERALL RATING 19 / 30

It’s a new track which is exciting to a degree. We’re not fooled though by the new track or overhyped bling off the track. It’s still a track in a carpark that goes under a highway. It wasn’t the worst race of the season, and that final part of the race was good fun.

2022 SEASON RATINGS SO FAR

GREAT & GRAPE OF THE RACE

Here we go through the field and highlight the very best (Great) of the race, and the plodders, the ambitious, the out of luck, and simply hopeless (Grape).

These points get added to our Driver of the Season scores. Five points for a great nomination, and -5 for the worst or grapest driver in the pack. Then it is +2 /-2 for honourable or dishonourable mentions.

It used to be called the good, bad and ugly, but everyone is using that now. And who doesn’t like grapes.

THE GREAT-EST – MAX VERSTAPPEN

Hard to argue with a dominant race winner not being the ultimate winner of the weekend.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

CHARLES LECLERC – Took pole, and while he may have got the win he wanted it was a strong second place, and he soundly beat his team mate again. He’s still the World Championship front runner after all.

VALTTERI BOTTAS – Another tremendous drive for Bottas in the Alfa.

GEORGE RUSSELL – Seems to be handling the Mercedes better than his illustrious team mate, and his strong races are starting to erase his reputation as a Mr Saturday who faded on Sunday.

ESTEBAN OCON – Decent drive to get from back of the grid to 8th.

ALEX ALBON – Proving he’s no muppet after taking more points for a Williams car which probably shouldn’t be better than a McLaren, but appears to be..

THE GRAPE-EST – DANIEL RICCIARDO

Another poor weekend as he failed to make Q3, and then spent a large part towards the back of the field. This is looking more like his last season in F1.

DIS-HONOURABLE MENTIONS

LANDO NORRIS – Crash robbed him of a chance for more points.

LEWIS HAMILTON – Another bad weekend for Mercedes. Finished behind the teammate again.

BOOING OF ADAM REYNOLDS PROVES SOME FANS ARE JUST JERKS

No one really wanted Adam Reynolds to leave the Rabbitohs it seems, not the player or the club and most of the fans it seemed in the lead up to the big Souths v Broncos clash on Thursday night.

Of course that didn’t stop the Souths legend being booed at various times during the game he went on to dominate and push his new side to victory.

It seems – as so eloquently put on The Simpson – “some people are just jerks”.

GUS GOULD DENIES COACHING BULLDOGS AFTER LOSS IN CANBERRA

Embed from Getty Images

Phil Gould aka Gus Gould’s coaching record in 2022 remains at 100% after denying have any involvement with the Bulldogs training in the week leading up to their loss in Canberra.

Whilst the previous week was all about the TV personality taking over a day of training in the lead up to their win against the Roosters, noises about a return to the clipboard this week have gone quiet leaving Trent Barrett to blame for the loss.

STRANGE BUT TRUE VOLUME 1 – RICKY STUART UPSET THAT PRESS CIRITICSED A SIDE THAT LOST FIVE GAMES IN A ROW AND KEEPS BLOWING LEADS

Embed from Getty Images

Ricky Stuart – one of rugby league’s angriest men – had a go at the press after criticism of his side in a recent bad run.

He was surprised that a side that was second last and had lost five games in a row and had started to be known as The Faders after consistently blowing half time leads would be criticised.

It is unknown that a rumoured chat earlier in the week with Prime Minister hopeful Scott Morrison was the inspiration behind being unable to believe that criticism could be handed out for poor results.

STRANGE BUT TRUE VOLUME 2 – PANTHERS FANS UPSET AT PARRAMATTA TRAINER COSTING THEIR SIDE A POTENTIAL TWO POINTS BUT FINE WITH A TRY FROM A BLATANT KNOCK ON WORTH FOUR POINTS

One thing that looked small but turned out to be bigger than first thought was the vision of a Parramatta trainer running in front of the goal as Nathan Cleary attempted a conversion.

Whilst hard to prove it was the main reason for the goal being missed, the two points missed for that conversion attempt is 50% of the four points they got from the Kikau knock on try.

REFEREE FROM PENRITH v PARRAMATTA GAME CONSIDERED A CAPTAINS CHALLENGE ON HIMSELF AFTER MISSING VILIAME KIKAU KNOCK ON

The big talking point from the Parramatta win over Penrith, apart from how good the game was to watch, was the completely obvious knock on missed by the refereeing team.

Knowing that Graeme Annersley would probably now have to discuss his error in his Monday de-brief the referee had contemplated sending himself upstairs for a captain’s challenge in an attempt to overturn the incorrect ruling and avoid being the scapegoat next week.

In unrelated news the sideline official admitting being distracted by Kikau’s excellent plush berber carpet on top of his head.

BEN TRBOJEVIC’S PERFORMANCE V WESTS TIGERS SEES HIM LOSE THE NICKNAME “TREVOR”

Supercoach filler and Manly centre Ben Trbojevic had a break out performance against the Wests Tigers on Saturday scoring a few tries and kicking arse in general.

He was the centre of attention after the match with an unknown team mate confiding to the Wooden Spooners team that the team had decided to drop the nickname of Trevor that had been applied to him around the club.

After questioning Trevor, we were advised it was insinuated that Ben was the Trevor Chappell of the Trbojevic family. Which we’re not sure who it is more offensive toward.

NRL CONSIDERING ENDING MELBOURNE STORM GAMES AT HALF TIME TO DECREASE THE CHANCE OF BLOWOUTS

Embed from Getty Images

Melbourne Storm have kicked it up a gear in recent rounds, helped by a kind draw of teams who have given up in the second half.

The Storm have scored 108 points in their last three second halves leading the NRL to worry about the perception that blow outs are back in the NRL.

So the Wooden Spooners have it on good authority that the NRL is seriously considering limiting Melbourne matches to just the first half.

When we quizzed them about the loss of TV time to broadcasters the NRL were quick to respond. “Well because it’s Melbourne there’s stuff all chance that they’ll be on Channel Nein when playing the bottom eight sides, and since it’s Fox League they can just fill with 40 minutes of Fletch and Hindy that seems to be the backbone of their in-season coverage.”

SCOMO ALLOWS SECOND SMUG GRIN TOWARDS NEW ZEALAND IN A WEEK AFTER SHARKS BIG WIN

Prime Minister hopeful and Sharks super fan Scott Morrison aka Scomo was wrapped with the Sharks win with 12 men against the Warriors on Sunday.

In an exclusive for the Wooden Spooners, the journalist sitting behind him in the bus can confirm he sent a selfie to the NZ Prime Minister with a trademark smug grin with the comment “How Good Are The Sharks. Lol.”

This was after giving it to New Zealand about their higher inflation rate during the last week of campaigning.

PETER V’LANDYS WONDERING WHAT HE CAN DO TO COMPLETELY RUIN THIS SEASON’S MAGIC ROUND

After introducing the high tackle clampdown just in time for the NRL’s biggest in season round, the Man of Feathers aka Peter V’landys is spending the week writing down ideas for what he can do for this year’s Magic Round.

A cleaner at the NRL head office has secretly handed the Wooden Spooners a napkin found in the boardroom that looked suspiciously like the boss’ handwriting.

The scrawl included….

  • Clampdown on playing the ball properly
  • Clampdown on spitting on the ground
  • Clampdown on not giving the ball back nicely to the opposition (we agree with this one as it gives us the sh!ts)
  • Clampdown on time taken for conversions.
  • End Melbourne games at half time. Talk to Hindy and Fletch.

THE SHANE FLANAGAN NEW COACHING GIG-O-METER

With Shane Flanagan returning to the commentary box for Fox League in 2022, we can continue to expect subtle digs at teams who are struggling and that he can see a possible way in for. Or anyone who may be competition or ahead of his son Kyle Flanagan.

So each week as part of the Wooden Spooner’s NRL Headlines, we’ll bring you the New Coaching Gig-O-Meter. This features which teams are hot for a new coach, or a team that was and is going cool.

With the Tigers not winning, and other clubs not going well, it seems like a buffet of choice for Fox League to push an agenda for.

2021-22 English Premier League Week 36 Tips – Barely Interesting Stats

Previously we came up with a bunch of barely interesting facts for each match, but let’s be honest, some games are less interesting than others.

So here we assemble only the finest cuts of barely interesting facts for the upcoming weekend of Premier League. Feel free to share them at BBQs, at the pub, and to any number of strangers on the Tube.

Recently promoted FULHAM have scored more goals than the bottom three Premier League teams combined. They are just a few goals shy of averaging four a game. Aleksandar Mitrovic has currently outscored ten of the Premier League sides this season himself with one game to go.

Watford have lost all ten games against London clubs this season.

Wolves have scored the fewest goals of any teams v top six this season with two in nine games. Chelsea haven’t lost at home to Wolves since 1979 – the record is W7 D3 Goals Scored 24 Goals Against 3)

Aston Villa have won just one game @ Burnley in their last 14 visits, going back to 1961. The last five Saturday games between these sides have ended in either a 1-1 or 2-2 draw.

Man Utd have won six straight v Brighton.

Liverpool is the only team not to have lost to a big six team on a Saturday this season (W1 D1). Liverpool are also undefeated in their 11 home games v Spurs (W8 D3) and it’s one loss in the last 23 home games v Spurs.

Norwich and West Ham have met 52 times, but never on a Sunday.

Arsenal are on a ten game unbeaten streak v Leeds Utd (W8 D2) Arsenal have scored four goals or more in half of those games.

Manchester City have won seven straight games on a Sunday v Newcastle. Man City have outscored Newcastle 12-0 in the last five Sunday matches.

Newcastle, Leeds and Norwich are the only teams not to win a game against the big six clubs this season. Newcastle at least have one draw.

Aston Villa have won the last two home games v Liverpool in all comp by a combined 12-2. Although one was a League Cup game played while Liverpool were at Club World Cup.

Norwich have won the last three midweek games v Leicester.

Here is the breakdown of Midweek performance so far this season.

Welcome to our weekly look at the upcoming weekend of rugby league – the NRL Round 9 Predictions Stats Preview + Alternative Tips where too much NRL is barely enough.

Each week we offer up a quick preview glance for each match, a bunch of barely interesting stats to go alongside, and our own thoughts on who will win.

We also offer up some alternative tips. These alternative tips are often based on a rugby league, and sometimes something completely absurd, and are aimed at those NRL tipsters who just can’t be bothered.

This week we are using May results going back to 1998.

So enjoy the 2022 NRL Round 9 Predictions Stats Preview + Alternative Tips where there’s something for everyone. Mostly.

2022 NRL Round 9 Barely Interesting Stats

MATCH BY MATCH BARELY INTERESTING STATS

Souths has exactly the same record and sequence of results v Brisbane Broncos for playing them on a Thursday at any venue and on any day as the home team at the Olympic Stadium. Record is (most recent game first) – WWWLLLWW.

Broncos win last Thursday broke a run of 12 straight losses on a Thursday v all teams home and away. They have lost their last five Thursday games away and ten of their last 11. The last time they beat a Sydney team away on a Thursday was in April 2018, against the Rabbitohs.

Going back to the start of 2019, Souths have won 13/15 games v Qld opposition.

Raiders have won five straight v Bulldogs.

Canberra and Bulldogs have only met four times on a Friday since 1998 – Canberra lead that H2H 3-1.

Canberra have won five straight on a Friday at home that stretches back to 2019.

Going back to June 2017, the Bulldogs have won one of their last eight away games on a Friday.

Penrith may well have won XX straight at Penrith Stadium, but it is also 15 games straight v Sydney teams at the same ground.

Of the 19 wins in a row at Penrith Stadium since the beginning of the 2020 season, only two teams have scored more than 12 points – (Penrith 29 Roosters 28 Sept 2020 & Penrith 20 Roosters 14 March 2020). Penrith have kept oppositions sides to under 10 points in eight of those 19 games.

It’s also 14 straight wins as the home team on a Friday for the Panthers.

Parramatta have conceded exactly 40 points in their last two Friday away games.

Manly have won six straight at home v Sydney sides.

Gold Coast last beat the Roosters back in 2016, and it’s been eight straight losses since. It’s seven in a row on a Saturday and 2011 since the last win.

Roosters have won seven of their last eight games in Queensland on a Saturday.

Cowboys have won five straight at home v Newcastle.

Newcastle have scored seven tries in the five and a half games since Mitch Barnett was sent off v Penrith.

The Knights have scored 26 points in their last five games. The next worst is Gold Coast with 54. Melbourne have scored 228 points in the same period.

Newcastle have scored five tries in five games since April 1. The Newcastle Jets A League team have scored 14 goals in their six games since April 1.

Melbourne Storm have scored more points in the last three games than every team in the bottom eight has the entire season so far. And outscored the bottom four’s season points for in the last two games.

The Dragons have failed to beat Melbourne at AAMI Park in five attempts.

Cronulla have won all three Sunday clashes with the Warriors on a Sunday at Shark Park or whatever it was called at the time since 1998.

Jerk of the Month April 2022 Nominations

July-August 2022 Jerk of the Month

Better late than never, here are the worst of the worst in the latest batch of Jerk of the Month April 2022 Nominations.

With a Federal Election on, you’d expect that group of people to dominate the April JOM noms, but it isn’t quite the case. In fact Scomo doesn’t appear this month to allow the Australian Public to vote for/against him officially.

That doesn’t mean the quality of jerks is low, it never will be, it just means one of the standout jerks from the last few years isn’t here this month. Nor does it mean that there hasn’t been a jerk or two on the campaign trail in April.

Happily we can’t remember hearing from Anti Vaxxers this month, perhaps ironically the vaccines are reducing the amount of their annoyance to normal people too.

Determining the month’s biggest jerk is ultimately up to you, the reader of this website. So read the form guide, and vote now, and vote early and vote often. For as many of the candidates whose cut of jib you dislike.

The Jerk of the Month April 2022 “winner” awaits your vote below.

FORM GUIDE – Jerk of the Month April 2022 Nominations

VLADIMIR PUTIN

For continuing the “army exercise” in Ukraine and appearing to step it up.

COVID-19

For finally catching up with some of our writing team in April.

UNITED AUSTRALIA PARTY

For continual bombarding of Australians with election ads.

LIBERAL CANDIDATE FOR WARRINGAH

People are entitled to free speech of course, but when the rubbish coming out of their mouths involves Nazi references, you know you’re in the Jerk of the Month nominations shitheap.

15 YEAR OLD RUSSIAN KART DRIVER

Talking of Nazi, the next nomination was the 15 Year Old Kart driver who did what looked very much like a Nazi salute on the podium and is seen laughing at it too.

ANDREW O’KEEFFE

For continuing to be a jerk after being thrown in jail for being a jerk. He now has to queue to phone a friend.

FEUDING HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITY EX-COUPLE

Enough of the dirty laundry airing. It’s worse than Harry and Meghan.

US PITCHER WHO TACKLED RUNNER

It wasn’t Major League (the competition or movie) but it was a major tantrum thrown by a pitcher in a recent US baseball match. After being taunted the pitcher lost his patience and tackled the runner between third and home in the style of a rugby league player of Gold Coast security guard.

GUS GOULD

For carrying on about a player being sent off in the Souths v Manly game and how bad the send off was because they weren’t hurt. Our Wooden Spooners had a Gus Gould exclusive on his thoughts. Broadcasters before players, nice one Gus.

GUS UNVEILS HIS PROPOSED GUIDELINES FOR SEND OFF/SIN BIN – BRAD FITTLER AGREES

2022 nrl round 8 results headlines - Gus Gould

One of the big moments of the weekend came in the Souths v Manly match on Friday when Karl Lawton was sent from the field for a dangerous throw tackle.

For most it was a bad tackle, and the Manly forward being sent from the field was a no brainer.

Except for some of the game’s great minds. Namely Gus Gould and Brad Fittler on the Channel Nein coverage who claimed it barely deserved a sin binning because the player wasn’t hurt, in a refreshingly new way of showing player welfare.

So the Wooden Spooners have a new exclusive, we have Gus Gould’s player outcome to offending player punishment scale, which has tentative support of Channel Nein from our source, which is our feature image above.

Also, here’s Gould (and Fittler’s) comments around the time of the send off – courtesy of this Fox Sports article.

“It’s just momentum, this can happen on the spur of the moment… really good charge, good hit.

“It’s just momentum, no-one’s hurt, everyone’s OK. Settle down.

“He doesn’t need a spell.”

When Lawton was sent off, Gould said “oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.”

New South Wales Origin coach Fittler also thought the send-off was heavy-handed.

“In support of Gus here, I don’t think at any stage that deserved a send-off,” he said.

Gould added: “It’s a little bit of a flip but to be sent off for that when there’s absolutely no injury to the other player, I find that extraordinary.

“You want your prime time TV show to now be 12 on 13, if that’s your product I give up.”

CLOTHED STREAKER ON GOLD COAST NOT POLE-AXED BY SECURITY GUARD BUT STILL MORE INTERESTING THAN GAME ITSELF

A second pitch invader hit the field in Friday night’s Titans v Panther clash on the Gold Coast. This time the intruder wasn’t smashed in a copybook tackle, hence made fewer headlines and because of that or the person in question had all their clothes on, it didn’t seem to annoy Buzz Rothfield as much.

One punter talking to our Wooden Spooners team at Robina station waiting to get a train back to Bethania told us “It was the highlight of the night. Otherwise it was just another sh!t game on the Gold Coast.”

PARRAMATTA THINKING OF TAKING WARRIORS OR STORM HOME GAME TO DARWIN NEXT SEASON

The Cowboy’s 35-4 win over Parramatta in Darwin was quite the surprise on Saturday night. The heat and humidity wasn’t.

Whether it was an in form Cowboys stepping it up a notch, or the fact that they were playing in conditions that sort-of replicated the heat of North Queensland, a Parramatta official was overheard by our resident NT Wooden Spooners spy after the game on Saturday.

“I know we wouldn’t get a crowd to a Cowboys game on a cold night in Sydney, but we threw away two points tonight inviting those sneaky bloody Queenslanders to a place just as hot. Next year we’ll invite the Warriors or Melbourne up here. They’ll hate the heat even more than us.”

IRONY AS MATT LODGE’S BIGGEST CRIME OF THE WEEKEND WAS FEIGNING INJURY

Embed from Getty Images

“Popular’ Warriors prop Matt Lodge was the centre of controversy in Round Eight, staying down with a questionable amount of high contact.

The resulting penalty gave the Warriors a score levelling penalty, which turned into a Golden Point winner for the Warriors.

While few will begrudge the Warriors a win, of Shaun Johnson a second winning field goal in two games at Redcliffe, Lodge’s antics have annoyed many rugby league fans.

In even better news for the Warriors prop, UEFA have included Matt Lodge in dive of the week.

GUS GOULD UP FOR COACH OF THE YEAR AFTER MASTER MINDING BULLDOGS UPSET OF ROOSTERS IN A PREVIEW OF UPCOMING SIX TACKLES PODCAST

It’s been a big week for Gus Gould. Aside from trying to change the way rugby league deals with illegal tackles, he’s also masterminded the Bulldogs upset victory over the Roosters.

Much was made midweek of Gus Gould taking over as coach and running training sessions, and it’s fair to say the change in training routine worked.

The Wooden Spooners were nearby the Channel Nein commentary box on Sunday and overheard James Bracey and Gus Gould working out the back and forths of Bracey suggesting Gould should be coach of the year with his 100% winning record with the last placed side for the upcoming podcast.

We are unsure if Gould will continue to take training sessions or merely take credit for future wins.

FOX LEAGUE BRINGS BACK FURLOUGHED STAFF WITH TIGERS LATEST LOSS

Despite another excellent performance, the Wests Tigers couldn’t quite make it three in a row against the Dragons on Sunday afternoon.

The Wooden Spooners has it on good authority that the Fox League writers who were put on paid leave or transferred to the Bulldogs/Trent Barrett/Gus Gould bashing department are now back on full time to undermining Michael Maguire and trashing the Wests Tigers for clickbait.

BEN HUNT ASKS “SURELY PEOPLE CAN STOP BRINGING UP THAT BLOODY GRAND FINAL DROP NOW”

After starring recently for the revived Dragons with some vintage performances, Ben Hunt has asked if it is about time that people stopped bring up that bloody dropped ball in Grand Final against the Cowboys.

A source close to Hunt secretly told the Wooden Spooners on the sly “The fact that Ben Hunt is still winning games for that Dragons side and being one of Queensland’s better players in recent Origin series should be enough for people to piss right off with that Grand Final sh!t” paraphrasing the halfback.

FEDERAL ELECTION STILL UP FOR GRABS AS NEITHER MAJOR PARTY HAS ANYTHING FOR RUGBY LEAGUE FANS

We finish off the weekend highlights wondering when any political party wanting to be elected will make a rugby league based campaign promise.

With Cost of Living a bit theme, one is hoping any political party will try and win over rugby league fans by introducing a $4 cap on lukewarm / Chernobyl-hot meat pies at footy games, or enforcing a restrictions on players signing for another club a full year before the current season ends by introducing a law into Parliament.

EVERYDAY NEWS – The Drama Queen Returns

0

A young woman has gone on another long Facebook rant today.

While Sarah (25) has been quiet recently, she made up for it with a epic half-page post calling out “all the two-faced so-called friends who always take, take, take but never give back!” She added that she was “SO SICK of being the doormat that is expected to drop everything at the slightest hint of drama. I have a life too!” She finished the rant with a now signature “you can’t f****** trust anyone! I’m just going to stay inside and look after me first. Everyone else can piss off!”

Sarah’s old uni friend, Kate, laughed when she read post, figuring that she must have been super-bored.

“Sarah pulled this all the time when we were studying. Any time she wasn’t getting enough attention, she’d created a huge drama over nothing so people would feel sorry for her. It was so regular we started a betting pool to see how often she’d crack it each semester. One year I won with a whopping five hissy fits. I bought myself a new TV with the winnings,” said Kate. “If she was genuinely upset, I’d check in with her, but I’ve seen these rants so often that it’s become ridiculous. I think this is the third one this year. I’m surprised she hasn’t bee ‘Zucc’d’ yet.”

While some people responded to Sarah’s hissy fit, Sarah is stringing out the drama by only ‘liking’ the comments but not replying.

“Give her a couple of days to get over herself and she’ll be back posting videos of puppies again like nothing happened,” said Kate. “Rinse and repeat.”
