Now that the Football World Cup is over, it is about time for the theme weeks to return, but before we fully say goodbye to the World Cup it is at the heart of Celebrate International French Appreciation Week.
It is because of the French football team’s win in the World Cup final that has inspired International French Appreciation Week, and just a day about their big nationwide event Bastille Day. It all pointed to France really. Jumping on a country/team after a big sporting win is relatively common, and the Football World Cup is as big as it gets, so the perfect time to go a little French.
They deserved the World Cup, and our pissweak theme week.
It wouldn’t be a theme week here at Le Gurgler without us suggesting some of our favourite things to do with the latest theme, so we offer up our favourite French things in celebration of International French Appreciation Week.
ALAIN PROST
Our favourite Formula One driver of all time, if not the greatest. His attempt to create a French superteam didn’t go well, but that was more Peugeot than France itself.
OLIVIER PANIS
Our second favourite French Formula One driver of all time, and a nice guy.
FRENCH CUT
A valuable cricket shot when not in form, which was the the usual status. Almost impossible to set a field for.
JEAN RENO
Loved him in Ronin. Ronin too was great, also set in France. Had dinner a few restaurants down from one of the shoot-outs.
FRENCH FRIES
Best use of a potato, except for Spud Gun.
THE POLICEMAN FROM YOPLAIT COMMERCIALS
Although Yoplait is not technically French for Yoghurt, the Policeman in the old ads certainly looks it. A beautiful stereotype.
ALLO ALLO
Finest English comedy to be set in WWII France of all time.
FRENCH HORN
The unsung hero of the brass section.
