Italian Grand Prix 2016 – The Good, Bad and Ugly

The Italian Grand Prix 2016 has been run and won again by Mercedes. Whilst we can’t have decent races every week, one can only hope next year’s rule changes shakes things up a bit.

It was a relatively dull Grand Prix, although Lewis Hamilton did his best to liven it up with a poor start. Although there was a sense of inevitability about his climb to second, such is the silver cars dominance.

Here is our usual review, and unlike Luca Badoer, it is in point form.

THE GOOD

NICO ROSBERG – always good for a win if Hamilton isn’t up to it. Has led all but one lap since the break. The least he could do is make sure this Championship gets to the last round.

DRS – As in a Dan Ricciardo Special. Very few overtake like Dan Ricciardo and his move on Bottas was more gold. Imagine if he can get a real front running car. Won’t die wondering.

POTENTIAL SALE OF F1 – Any change is good change. And lessening the sight of Bernie wouldn’t be bad either. However it is a media company looking into it, so it could feature in the next two categories.

STOFFEL VANDOORNE – Jenson Buttons Semi Retirement opens the door for the former GP2 Champion to get a proper go at a McLaren seat. It looks like he’ll get a better McLaren than Jenson has the last two years.

TOP GEAR – Only Jenson Button could save the busted arse that is Top Gear post Clarkson era.

MONZA’S SHORT RACE – thank the Lord it was only short.

THE BAD

JOLYON PALMER – having one of the poorer seasons in a while, his luck summed up by the collision with Nasr.

SAUBER – with the rise of the Manor team and their young drivers, Sauber will soon find themselves at the very back of the grid.

FERRARI – Although not bad in general, the disappointment of them not being any closer to Mercedes is frustrating.

THE UGLY

LEWIS HAMILTON’S STARTS – although they do make races more interesting.

DANI KVYAT – as if being dropped from Red Bull and having a shocking run at Toro Rosso wasn’t bad enough. Then GP2 Pierre Gasly is misquoted as after your seat. It’ll probably happen anyway.

GP2 SAFETY CAR – Talking of GP2, it is always good for a watch. The Safety Car forgot to pick up first place, effectively leaving fourth place onwards a lap down. They did eventually fix it.
