A controversial reality show has been axed after two episodes.
Tension Point followed three couples whose marriages are at breaking point, with scenarios designed to test how strong their relationships really are, with the surviving couple receiving a $10,000 prize.
While scheduled for a 12-episode run, the thunderstorm of negative publicity on social media was enough to cut it short, with various critics and commentors destroying it. The remaining 10 episodes won’t be available anywhere and the $10,000 has been split up and donated to various charities.
The negative feedback included:
“This is reality TV at its most cynical! Putting people through emotional trauma for the sake of ‘entertainment’ and a quick ratings hit.”
“Calling this ‘car crash TV’ would be an insult to car crashes.”
“Tension Point makes the various Kardashian shows look like Antiques Roadshow.”
“This mess of a show blatantly exploits people and should be stopped immediately.”
“The ‘challenges’ in the show were thinly veiled excuses to get these poor people fighting as soon as possible and keep it going through the whole episode. It was disgusting!”
This was the despite the show’s press release promising, “an hour each week of nailbaiting and unpredictable human drama. If you like conflict-driven reality TV, then you’ll love Tension Point! Who knows what will push these couples over the edge? Who will come out stronger, live happily ever after, and win the $10,000?”
The show’s producers were unavailable for comment after it was axed.
