EVERYDAY NEWS – The Sketch Show Rediscovery

A Melbourne man has been reacquainted with one of his favourite sketch shows via social media.

Peter was browsing Discord when someone posted a YouTube link to an A Bit of Fun sketch – the 90s UK sketch show that featured a variety of local comedians and borrowed heavily from classic UK sketch shows The Two Ronnies, The Goon Show, Do Not Adjust Your Set, At Last the 1948 Show, Monty Python, and A Bit of Fry & Laurie.

After watching the sketch, Peter was given a nice surprise when he next visited YouTube.

“All because I watched that one sketch, suddenly my You Tube algorithm was filled with A Bit of Fun sketches. I usually hate when the social media robots generate content based on what you’ve viewed, but in this case I was delighted!”

Peter has fond memories of the sketch show, which ran for three seasons (24 episodes) from 1992 to 1994.

“I found the DVDs in my local library in the early 2000s, hired all three seasons, and smashed through them. I loved the blend of silly sketches with some intelligent sketches about philosophy or linguistics. You didn’t know what type of sketch would be next,” said Peter.

And Peter has spent the last week watching random Fun sketches on YouTube.

“I’ve gotten into a routine of watching two or three sketches before bed and it puts me in a great mood as I fall to sleep thinking about what my favourite sketches where and why. I might even hunt down the old DVDs so I can watch them properly again.”
