A social media war has erupted over a superhero movie trailer.
Released just before Christmas, the trailer for Bulletman Returns (with the movie out June 2025) had a mixed reaction on Facebook.
Meant to be a homage to the original movie, certain groups of fans attacked the trailer for relying too much on nostalgia, being kid-friendly, too “woke”, and the action scenes being too messy.
And one Bulletman fan has had enough.
Peter Haigh used to run the Bulletman Forever fan page, but got fed up with the negativity.
“What SHOULD have been an exciting moment was ruined by the loud minority or trolls who were determined to hate the movie no matter what,” said Peter. “At first I tried to defend the trailer as I loved it, but I got worn down with all the horrible comments.”
“And it wasn’t just my page: every page featuring the trailer was bombarded with negativity. I love Bulletman and I want to celebrate him, not waste my time arguing with trolls who are being hateful for the sake of it. I hate to think how worse it’ll get the closer we get to the release date.”
The last straw came after Christmas.
“I’d posted an article on Forever about the casting of Bulletman’s love interest Sonia. The producers chose to cast an unknown African-American woman. I’m fine with it, as Bulletman’s had African American girlfriends in the comics. But the comments section was disgusting!” said Peter. “I spoke with the other admins and we decided to scrap the group and start a new private one (Bulletman Forever – PRIVATE), with entry questions that are obscure enough to keep the trolls out and ensure the GENUINE fans are let in. We took note of the supportive fans and gave them the link through Messenger immediately.”
The incident left such a sour taste that Peter chose to delete the Facebook app from his phone and iPad.
“From now on, I’m only using Facebook when I need to. I’ll keep up with the Bulletman news, post in the new group, answer the polite comments, and get out. The other boys are happy for me to do that. Hopefully this new page is actually pleasant.”
