A movie night hasn’t gone to plan for a Brisbane family.
Peter was looking forward to sitting down with his family on Friday night to watch the latest superhero blockbuster – Bulletman – which had just arrived on Disney+.
But it was also the end of Peter’s first full week back at work, and he was feeling exhausted by 5pm.
“I struggled to get through dinner and the missus suggested we reschedule the movie night,” said Peter. “But I insisted we carry on. I’ve been looking forward to this movie for weeks.”
Peter tried to curb his tiredness by loading up on Coca-Cola and a big bag of M&Ms. But the expected sugar rush backfired and he fell asleep 20 minutes into the movie.
“My eyes were getting heavy at the opening credits. I don’t remember much after that.”
Peter woke up two hours later and was surprised that the TV was off and his wife and kids weren’t in the living room.
“Claire was in bed and the kids were in their room playing video games. When I found out I’d missed the whole movie, I was furious! They said they tried to wake me, but obviously not hard enough. It’s my stupid job’s fault for making me work hard and tiring me out!”
But Peter’s mood improved when Claire said he could watch the movie by himself whenever he wanted, and to try family movie night again on Saturday.
“At first I was annoyed that he fell asleep, but the kids and I were enjoying the movie and I didn’t want to have to start it again so old mate could catch up. So I let him sleep,” said his wife Claire.
Feeling awake and happier, Peter watched Bulletman by himself, with a little bit of Coke and a modest helping of M&Ms to keep him alert.
“Bulletman was brilliant. Everyone was asleep by the time it finished, so I spent a bit of time on my phone reading reviews and some fan comments.”
The second attempt at family movie night will be Karaoke Battle – a musical-comedy where Jack Black and Zooey Deschanel play competing karaoke singers.
“Claire suggested this one. She knows it’s not my cup of tea and she won’t care if I fall asleep again.”
