Welcome to this week’s preview of the English Football which includes our look at great Championship mascots.
After the raging success of our 15 Great Mascots from Leagues One and Two, it is only fair we celebrate the Championship’s best, as the second tier action returns this weekend.
Mascots are great, the unsung hero of the sporting game day. Treasured by the fans, admired by the casual viewer and loved by the kids. They play an important part in each sporting team. Especially Championship mascots.
Who else provides the entertainment when the on field action is dull. What person is there ready for high five celebrations when a goal is scored. Who brings joy on the fans faces when they get into a play brawl with an opponent’s mascot. There’s nothing funnier. Mascots are.
Before we head into our usually unread and painfully boring preview of the English Football League weekend, time to pay tribute to some of the best mascots.
BARNEY THE OWL – Sheffield Wednesday
BILLY BREWER – Burton Albion
CAPTAIN CANARY – Norwich City
STRIPEY THE LATICAT – Wigan Athletic
TOBY TYKE – Barnsley
WOLFIE – Wolverhampton Wanderers
Possibly not great but a good pun name…
TERRY BYTE – Fulham
THIS WEEKEND’S PREVIEW
Enough about the mascots, time to point out the best action ahead and a Man v Food serving of our best multis.
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS WEEKEND
Here’s the pick of the action this weekend. In our opinion.
- DERBY v NEWCASTLE – Two of the favourites head to head.
- LEEDS v HUDDERSFIELD – Local rivals in unexpected league positions. Huddersfield leading, with Aussie Aaron Mooy leading way after being nominated as player of the month. Leeds are fourth last.
- OXFORD UNITED v SWINDON TOWN – a nice feisty local derby in League One
