The Own Goal – Tales and Tips from the Football League

With most of the focus going to the FA Cup Round 4 – and we have already done our preview of that here – one could be forgiven to missing the Football League this weekend. Not us, we have our usual array of Football League things to discuss and tips to give.

TALES

Good news for Bolton Wanderers as the Supporters Trust have started discussions to buy the club, which can only be a good thing as the clubs have huge debts, a looming tax bill court case, and are struggling to pay staff wages. Hopefully a deal is done in time to save the club, and a win last weekend may save them from relegation too.

Good news and karma for the Cobblers. The ex-chairman of Northampton Town was arrested for the 10M+ loan that nearly sent the club broke and closed for tax debts. On field hasn’t been affected with 5 straight wins and a table topping league position.

More good news for AFC Wimbledon fans (of which The Gurgler is one after a stint living in Wimbledon) as they have now won four in a row to sit 8th, and one place outside the playoffs. For a team that came within a game of relegation not long ago, the current status quo will do nicely.

MANAGERS

It is the first week since early December where there hasn’t been a manager change. Still plenty of time to reach the half century.
