F1 Donkey Bold Predictions

Faster than a Max Verstappen, more expendable than a Red Bull #2 driver, with more swearing than the FIA would like, and harder to get out of than a Brazilian gravel trap, it’s the F1 Donkey with his unique view on F1 and more. Before each race The F1 Donkey puts the ass in sass and unloads his alternative, slightly unhinged thoughts on F1 including this week’s Bold 2025 Miami Grand Prix Predictions and opinion.

The F1 Donkey’s Pre Miami Grand Prix Thoughts

So here we are at the first USA Grand Prix, and what a time to be there, to join in the celebrations of Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office. Not forgetting the current US President was there last year in the McLaren put and that saw Lando Norris breakthrough for his first ever Grand Prix win.

Perhaps after that, some struggling teams and driver may reach out to Mr Trump to appear in their garage to turn around their fortunes.

One driver struggling who probably won’t be sending out an invite will be Lewis Hamilton. Although given current form he could use the extra or indeed any help. Lance Stroll being a Canadian also probably wouldn’t like an American President, although it is Lance Stroll and he doesn’t appear to like anything. Or anyone. Especially not Formula 1.

Esteban Ocon could do with some extra luck, same with Liam Lawson, but neither seem the Trump type.

Or maybe like the shadow of Mr Trump on the Canadian election, he might be bad luck this season, so maybe no one will invite him. I’d like to invite him onto the grid to see what Martin Brundle does with him. That’s a better showdown on anything we’ll probably see this weekend.

And at least Martin Brundle will know who he is. Presumably. Rather than a parade of high profile for some generation other than mine of Brundle’s US celebrities and influencers that pollute this Grand Prix. It seems a race weekend designed to just parade around these sort of people.

Who can forget the underwhelming driver introductions of past years. Although from memory Sergio Perez was ignored in one. So someone obviously knew their F1.

I’d love to go back to the good old days before Netflix when the US fans ignored F1 as a Euro snobbery thing, where the US drivers had cool names like Andretti, Speed, Gurney, and Christian Horner was just a team principal. Although on the flip side, love Gunther’s work.

Then we wouldn’t need three US races. Just one. And we certainly wouldn’t have one like this run around a football stadium and under a highway. Although (fact checks) there was a Las Vegas Grand Prix in a carpark, and one in Pheonix of all places, so as you were.

But to a degree the effort into sucking up to US markets F1 puts into the Miami Grand Prix is sickening. Much like when your Mum puts out all the really good dinner plates and cutlery for when relative or people they’re showing off to come over and the next day you’re back on the Ikea plates.

This weekend sees the F1 team whip out special liveries, drivers have special helmets, and special celebrities will no doubt hog the camera glimpses rather than drivers on track.

And boy aren’t some of the one-off liveries awful. Ferrari have made big noises about a Blue Ferrari as a historic nod to when they did it in the 60’s, but their 2025 effort looks like a mesh of a design that got jammed in the colour photocopier and pulled out as one design.

Sauber’s Black and Green looks as black and green as their usual effort, and will probably result in the same amount of points as usual.

The Racing Bulls Magenta colour is certainly interesting, and proves they are as able to change the car colour as the team name. I can imagine Magenta is Liam Lawson’s favourite colour, but they didn’t have permanent scowl, so what do you do?

Even Jack Doohan will have a special design for the Miami Grand Prix. Although one could cruelly yet possibly close to the truth argue that it could be a great limited edition special.

I’ve always regretted not buying the Prost Grand Prix team shirt when it was available, as well as the Forti team flag, the used overalls from Thierry Boutsen’s ill-fated stint as a Jordan driver, and the front wing from the Spyker of Marcus Winklehock, who remains the only driver to lead his only Grand Prix.

I do have a Super Aguri shirt. Which is by far the most treasured piece of F1 gear I own.

So Jack Doohan fans get in now, and his merch and his Alpine drive may not be coming back to Europe.

But onwards to this weekend’s bold predictions. Halfway through I realised there was a sprint race, so some may not make sense. That’s OK, no one checks them after the race anyway.

Note: that my predictions will be applying a tariff based on the calculation of Constructor Points from the Past five seasons, divided by average Grid position and multiplied with number of podiums the team has scored in Sprint races.

The NRL Donkey’s Bold 2025 Miami Grand Prix Predictions

And here they are, in a convenient team by team format, so you can ignore them all at your convenience or peril. Depending on the outcome of our prediction.

McLAREN

Could be a comeback race for Lando Norris, but a stalking Piastri retains the Championship lead after seconds in both races.

RED BULL

Yuki Tsunoda to give Max a run for his money in qualifying in the middle of the Q3 pack, then bin it in the race. That’s after a pointless Sprint race and Q2 Sprint Qualifying exit for Yuki. Max will have an off, no-podium weekend.

FERRARI

Sprint race win for Charles Leclerc. Main race podium for Charles Leclerc. More misery for Lewis Hamilton.

MERCEDES

Kimi Antonelli to out-qualify George Russell for sprint qualifying and lose a podium with a few laps to go. A strangely off form George Russell has an ordinary weekend.

WILLIAMS

Williams to lock out Row Three for Sprint Qualifying and score double points. The main race is less successful.

RACING BULLS

Izack Hadjar to make Q3 for both Sprint and the main race. Scores a handful of points on the Sunday. Liam Lawson to scowl his way through the weekend.

ALPINE

Jack Doohan’s last race.

ASTON MARTIN

People say I don ‘t like Lance Stroll and every week I wish him to crash and embarrass himself because he outwardly appears to hate being an F1 driver, one of the best jobs in the world. And he’s a spoiled brat who won’t deserve an Adrian Newey car. And they’re right. Stroll to qualify last, spin out of Sprint race and crash out of the main race. Fernando Alonso ticks another box on his calendar waiting for 2026.

HAAS

Bearman to charge through the field on Sunday for eighth. Bearman thrashes Ocon in both qualifying who has Lance Stroll to thank for not being last.

KICK SAUBER

Solid Q2 for both drivers in qualifying, and a first point for Bortoleto.

NRL | Stats Extra – Cornerstone – Ray Stone NRL Stats and More

Ray Stone NRL Featured Image

By popular demand, and despite the vocal objections of one person, The Gurgler’s NRL Stats Team has produced another Stats Extra, this time focusing on one of the NRL’s hardest men, a rugby league weapon if you will, so enjoy if you dare the Ray Stone NRL Stats and more.

We know Ray Stone would probably hate the attention, he does seem to hate a lot of things: missed tackles, losing, scoring tries, seagulls that land on the field at Kayo Stadium during games, and lots of other things.

But he only takes it out on the field, in the form of a body jolting low tackle, a breath squeezing midriff tackle, or even just an icy stare at an opponent is enough.

Ray Stone has no time for accolades, he simply needs to go on tackling, which is why we must do it on his behalf for all the Ray Stone fans out there.

All the main stats are here, and while some don’t make top 10 lists, Ray Stone’s impact on the Dolphins and Dolphins fans alike is huge. We are sure he would make a Top 10 for punishing low tackles, scowls, and hate per square inch.

But onwards now to the definitive Ray Stone NRL Stats.

The Dolphins enforcer has hit the ground running, as well as hitting opposition players in 2026.

He was injured for Game One, a game the Dolphins didn’t win, but returned for Round Two, which coincided with the return to winning ways for the team.

NRL | 2025 NRL Magic Round Ratings and Late Mail

2025 nrl grand final ratings featured

Been too distracting by various politicians calling each other liars? Or the Galvin-Tigers saga? Need some last-minute NRL tipping advice? Want something else to blame when the tips go wrong? Well then saddle up for The Gurgler’s NRL Magic Round Ratings and Late Mail.

In a new additional to our stable of NRL stats and tipping products, we have used all the stats we have, smashed them against each other like atoms, and come up with a H2H rating.

It includes this year’s form with a bias because it is this year, but we don’t forget historic stats of the H2H against this week’s opponents, and the ground and day the teams are playing on. Then slice up the scores out of 100% between the two sides. The bigger the percentage, the more likely to win.

2025 NRL Magic Round Ratings

Here are the H2H ratings and winner for Magic Round of the NRL.

Our ratings picked a lot of home teams last weekend except for the first and last game, where the home side won……

NRL Magic Round Ratings

2025 NRL Magic Round Late Mail

CRONULLA v PARRAMATTA

The fact that a Cronulla player’s first name change to KL is the most interesting thing leading into this game isn’t a good sign for the opening match of Magic Round. Fun fact, only one team listed as the home side has won the opening game of Magic Round.

ROOSTERS v DOLPHINS

Some welcome returns from injury for the Dolphins who now have their first and second string hookers back. Felise Kaufusi is back and good for a hard tackle or two. Just ask the Roosters from the Dolphins first ever game at the same venue against the same team. Roosters looked good on Anzac Day, and so did the Dolphins for 40 minutes last weekend.

SOUTHS v NEWCASTLE

Souths already have the first choice five eighth and halfback out, and now the backup Jack Wighton is out it’s a choice between the mystery of Josh Schuster and the UK halfback Lewis Dodd that Wayne Bennett doesn’t seem to like. Souths tend to grind out wins when they do, which is good as Newcastle don’t score too many points. Both sides are on losing streaks – Souths three and the Knights five. One for the diehards.

WARRIORS v COWBOYS

Should be the most entertaining game of the Magic Round. Both teams are in form too. Cowboys have won four straight and the Warriors have won five of their last six. The Warriors are currently fourth but have a negative points difference. Warriors have won three in a row v Cowboys, but North Qld have won five games in a row v non-Broncos sides at Suncorp Stadium. A coin flip, and an entertaining one.

WESTS TIGERS v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

Lachlan Galvin’s return may not be fully responsible for the Tigers win on Sunday, but at least we’re no longer talking about him. Sadly Lachlan Ilias has been blamed for another club’s problems and been dropped for the Dragons. Neither team’s form a Suncorp Stadium is great, but at least the Tigers have won a Magic Round game.

GOLD COAST v BULLDOGS

David Fifita has been dropped to outside the top 17, but surely a team looking to break a four game losing run will want some impact, so guessing he’ll play. Bulldogs ended up doing well against Broncos in the second half last weekend, setting up some good momentum for this weekend. But some stats are against the Bulldogs. They are the team with the worst recent record at Suncorp Stadium and are yet to win in Magic Round in five attempts. Gold Coast are also pretty handy at Suncorp Stadium.

PENRITH v BRISBANE

Still requires a rubbing of the eyes looking at an NRL ladder with the Panthers last. You’d think the game being at Suncorp Stadium is a big help to Brisbane. Problem is, that they have a poor record against Penrith, a bad record for day games (they lost all of them last season), and not great there on a Sunday (Broncos have won just four of their last 12 at Suncorp Stadium on a Sunday). But the Broncos do have a good Magic Round record (W4 L1) and have won five of their last six as the away team at Suncorp Stadium.

MELBOURNE v CANBERRA

Bit unfortunate that this game is in Brisbane as the Raiders have a good record v the Storm in Melbourne. Also, Canberra have a poor record at Suncorp Stadium, unlike Melbourne who have a better win % than the Broncos. Canberra are in form though, with four wins in a row, and a stunning second half comeback v Dolphins last week. The Storm better be in front at half time as the Raiders’ second half record is W7 L1 this season. Melbourne’s is W3 L4.

F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST? 4 / 10 – If you squint your eyes just enough, you can see that the Miami circuit looks like the head of an Alligator or Crocodile. Which being in Florida is quite apt. As for fast there’s a few fast corners and long-ish straights. But it is no Saudi Arabia fastest street track in the world.

What shouldn’t be lost is the Track Stats image below in our article is from a very early F1 computer game but yet still looks like the Miami track.

ACTION? 6 / 10 – This section gets a couple more points than it probably deserves because there’s a sprint race. But Sprint Races are pretty dull in general anywhere. Like the feature races in Miami feel like. An extra point for the Martin Brundle gridwalk as it probably will be the most awkward of the season.

BIG HISTORY? – 3 / 10 – To a degree there is some history for this track, it harks back to the 1980’s when US Grands Prix were run on uninspiring layouts in places you wouldn’t expect. Like Pheonix and Dallas. Detroit was a host city that made sense, but the track sucked.

INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 4 /10  The Weather Channel says there’s a 46% chance of rain on the Sunday with a potential for storms.

RACE POTENTIAL RATING 43%A circuit around a football stadium doesn’t inspire, but a late storm might.

2025 Miami F1 Grand Prix  Prix-view – Stats Summary

Want to know if your favourite driver for this weekend is a master of the track or the track is a master of them? Here then are some barely interesting facts and stats.

  • Hard to believe given his dominance when he’s on, Lando Norris won his first race here last season.
  • Only three of the current drivers have made Q3 in all three GPs in Miami.
  • Ferrari do love a street track, it is their best track type by performance, and their current and former driver are first and second for average grid slot over the three Miami races.
  • No driver has won from pole position. Ther winner has come from 3rd, 5th and 9th.
  • Driver qualifying 20th has scored points on two occasions.

NRL Magic Round Stats and Stuff

  • The only undefeated team at Magic Round is the Dolphins.
  • Canberra are on the current longest winning run for Magic Round with four straight wins.
  • For those concerned The NRL won’t be able to help themselves with Sin Bins, a new record blew away any previous Magic Round crackdowns last weekend with 18. Surely there won’t be more this weekend.
  • Four of the five eventual premiers won in Magic Round. Also, four of the five eventual wooden spooners lost during Magic Round.

NRL | The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 9 Expert Tips and Opinion

0
NRL 2026 Season Predictions

Angrier than a room full of Fox League writers and NRL 360 hosts, slower than a Bunker decision, and spending more time in the Sin Bin than his contract allows, it’s time for the weekly Rugby League rant of The Gurgler’s NRL Donkey, who provides his NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 8 Expert Tips as well as offers an alternative, slightly unhinged view full of sass of the world of rugby league and beyond for another week.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 9 Weekly Rant

And so we approach another Magic Round, the NRL’s annual shindig, a spirit-ual journey for rugby league fans to the place known as the Cauldron and Lang Park.

The NRL could have found a better game to kick off Magic Round than Parramatta and Cronulla. Although it is the 6pm Friday kick off, and often ignored due to low quality, this is Magic Round and it should be better. The whole weekend should be full of rivalries like in the UK. Or at least serve up the Warriors Cowboys game to get the blood rushing.

Just don’t leave the NRL in charge of it otherwise they’ll pick eight games of Roosters playing the Panthers and Broncos one half at a time to ensure they have played each other a few more times before Origin.

Maybe get an AI bot to determine which sets of fans hates each other the most and do the draw accordingly. It should be easy for AI to do that and be the second-best use of AI according to The Gurgler website. The other great use of AI is coming up with multiple pictures of Greg Norman and turning it into a comic of Greg saving the world from Tariffs, Elections, Cyclones, Floods and Music Industry.

Also, while on the subject of the NRL up to no good, it is good to know the NRL were trialing how to ruin Magic Round again with a record number of Sin Bins last weekend. You have to practice hard to ruin something just right. Unless Man of Feathers aka PvL changes his mind again and lets Street Justice take over this weekend.

Not that I’m against saving players noggins so they can lead rich, full lives after rugby league, but maybe there’s something in between we could trial.

First of all Sin Bins ruin games. It usually results in lower quality of football, decreases water cooler talk about actual rugby league, makes fans angry, and gives Buzz Rothfield something to get on a high horse about. If only that horse would kick him off. And in the teeth for good measure.

Secondly, if we have to have them, ten minutes is too long. A slightly mis-judged shoulder contact doesn’t deserve a player to miss 12.5% of the action. Although according to recent Election ad campaigns Sin Bins are probably Albo’s fault, as they mix him up with NRL CEO Abdo, and Trumpet of Patriots probably think Sin Bins are because of wokeness.

Wokeness or not, I say the Sin Bin should be five minutes maximum. I was going to suggest three, but the referees would look pretty stupid sticking three fingers in the air. Not as silly as that loon of a cricket umpire Billy Bowden used to be. And probably not as silly as The Bunker always looks. And it doesn’t have any hands or fingers.

Better still, the Sin Bin experience could be enhanced for the fans. Bringing NRL entertainment and player safety together in the best way possible.

I think the Sin Bin should be a physical place where the player sits in full view of the public on the sideline. Jammed as closely as possible between the field of play and fans. Maybe not unlike a UFC cage where fans can vent, and players can return serve with a guarantee from the NRL of no punishment. With banter going back and forward the ten minutes will go so fast.

That may not sound like a players cup of tea, or bubbler, but perhaps if you say reduce the Sin Bin for players to sit in the public sideline Sin Bin, they only have to serve five minutes. Real team players will take the abuse and the reduced time.

Ray Stone would go in there for a regular interchange and a HIA.

Going even further, perhaps the sideline Sin Bin could be one of those dunking machines you see at school fetes, that usually have the least popular teacher sitting on there, where the cheeky and the well behaved students unite to inflict cold water misery on their teacher/s. Imagine having an NRL Sin Bin Dunking machine on the sideline, where fans can pay $5 each to get one beanbag to throw at the dunking target. Proceeds could go to Men of League to support players after the game, making the whole process a full circle, full of player welfare, giving the fans something to do, and being very funny to watch.

Or if those out there who think dunking NRL players in dangerously low levels of water is cruel, perhaps the Sin Bin punishment as a Magic Round special could be that the player has to run to the Caxton and back. For the very fit it would be less of a punishment, and for the tired and can’t be arsed it may end up closer to the original ten minutes of the sin bin. Or in the case of some players, they may not come back. Or not for a while a little drink in the toilet.

You could then have a drone following them up the hill to the Caxton and back, through the crowd, and make it a red button special on Fox League. If they still do that. Don’t think they do. If they do, could you please have a No Cronk commentary option. Cronk is the NRL’s king of “I Told You So”. Making one half decent point then hammering it all game in case you didn’t hear or didn’t appreciate just how great a rugby league thinker he is.

Maybe the Red Button could also have a Flanno cam for Dragons game, where to save the Fox League team time, it would one camera focused on Flanno at all times, with text message of support from Fox League commentators scrolling on the screen below. Hopefully the camera is positioned correctly so you can’t see Michael Ennis kissing Flanno’s arse the whole time.

Or what about a Red Button special they used to do where they locked two fans of opposing sides in a booth and let them banter during the game.

It will probably go unnoticed that the side to miss out on Magic Round this season is Manly. Because no one cares. But it can’t be the team that everyone hates the most every year, so whilst I’m floating ideas that won’t happen, here’s an idea for some extra spice for the Magic Round.

How about the team that gets thrashed by the biggest margin is the team that misses out for 2026. That would certainly keep people interested all the way through. And of course, betting markets on Magic Round’s biggest loser should be available. Or if no team is beaten by more than 10 points, then Manly have to suck it up again.

But let’s hope the NRL takes a fallen Hollywood child actor’s serving of chill pills and calms down and lets the football and alcohol do the talking for one of the great rugby league experiences – Magic Round.

And talking of magic, here’s my expert tips to make leads in the tipping comps disappear….

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 9 Expert Tips

CRONULLA v PARRAMATTA

Aside from Souths v Newcastle and Wests Tigers v Dragons, you have to think there was a better game to kick of Magic Round. I presume this would normally have kicked off on a Sunday Afternoon, 4pm, yep, has that written all over it.

Parramatta by 10

ROOSTERS v DOLPHINS

Much like politics, nothing good comes about when Queenslanders head to Canberra. And there’s only so much Ray Stone can do about it.

Roosters by 6

SOUTHS v NEWCASTLE

Next.

Souths by 12

WARRIORS v NORTH QLD

A rose between two thorns this game. Well worth the effort it should be. Two good fun sides in form.

May as well get some rugby league in before the election coverage kicks in. Of course we recommend the ABC and Antony Green, always. But a Bob Katter-Cliver Palmer-Jacquie Lambie trio on Channel Seven sounds almost tempting.

Warriors by 6

WESTS TIGERS v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

This game is up against the final Antony Green election night coverage on the ABC. Good luck. There’s not enough Lachie Galvins in the world to get me nor Benji Marshall interested. Only Isaac Moses would be interested, and maybe Parramatta. But not me, Phil Gould, most Wests Tigers fans, and I presume Michael “Slats” Slater, who has other things to worry about. Aside from cricket commentary.

Tigers by 8

GOLD COAST v BULLDOGS

One team was spanked in the first half last weekend and the other was spanked in the second half. We’ll take the team with the least recent sore backside.

Bulldogs by 8

PENRITH v BRISBANE

Fact, Brisbane are unbeaten, and unbeatable when Xavier Wilison plays a full 80 minutes. And the Broncos might be happy to keep Penrith dead last.

Brisbane by 2

MELBOURNE v CANBERRA

Probably saving the best for last at Magic Round. Pity it wasn’t the first game. For both watching the game on Sunday and my enthusiasm levels of coming up with an attempt of humour here. Maybe my tips is humourous to Storm fans. Although, they are usually light on laughs. Given this features two of rugby league’s most fiery coaches, why not install a single person viewing booth on the sidelines with TV cameras inside for the coaches to sit in all game as another Red Button special.

SIN BINS

If you think there seemed like more sin bins than usual this weekend, you were right. A record for as far back as 2022, which is all you need.

But it seems to be a mid season trend as the first visual shows. Not sure if that means we’ve seen a peak yet.

GREG NORMAN VS | Greg Norman Vs Music Industry

Greg Norman v Music Industry Featured

The Gurgler loves a hero, and Greg Norman, and now together at last is the new Gurgler Comic Series featuring Greg Norman taking on some of the world’s biggest problems in the only way Greg Norman can do. By being Greg Norman. Doing Greg Norman things. In the Greg Norman way. This episode sees Greg Norman trying to save the Music Industry.

WARNING: Adult Themes and/or shirtless golfers…..

Greg Norman Vs Music Industry

Greg Norman v Music Industry 19

All images above were created using the technology of Grok and the slightly warped imagination of The Gurgler writing staff, who are frequently locked in a room and told not to come out until they have come up with at least 50 barely interesting stats on a specific sport, or something that makes the Telegram group give Hardy chuckles. G, they are easy to please though. But even if you don’t like the way Twitter, also known as X, is going, you should get into their AI app Grok, which needs a Twitter / X account, and let your imagination run wild. Maybe you could come up with some Greg Norman adventures of your very own to share with family and friend.

If you enjoyed this episode of Greg Norman Vs, and are not worried about our obsession with Greg Norman, especially the fact he is usually presented as shirtless, then why not follow the links to some of our other gear below.
