Quick European Football Highlights #9 2018-2019

1
European Football Predictions

The weekend is here, and that means way too much European Football to keep up with, so we offer up our quick European Football Highlights for the weekend. A weekend that features probably the biggest game of the European competitions – Barcelona v Real Madrid.

Some might call it hipster football, we don’t, it’s pure sports and football goodness. Gives us an Eibar, Sassuolo, or Borussia Monchengladbach any time.

And too much football is barely enough we like to say.

But if you have a life and can’t watch everything, we offer up our quick European Football Highlights, to help you follow the best of it live, without the need to stay up for absolutely everything. With added TV times

Quick European Football Highlights – The Matches

It’s not all about El Clasico this weekend, so here are a few more games worth keeping an eye on. Most of them are after midnight on Sunday night in Australia, making for a very tired start to the working week.

There are some TV Times for those in Australia lucky enough with Bein Sports.

SATURDAY
BUNDESLIGA – BORUSSIA DORTMUND v HERTHA BERLIN

Bundesliga leaders Dortmund are playing some of the best football in Europe, and are a refreshing change at the top in Germany after what feels like a decade of Bayern dominance. A showdown between those two is a couple of weeks away. Their opponents Hertha Berlin are sixth and have conceded just as many a Dortmund. But have only scored half as many. Still they are only five points away.

Prediction: Draw 3-1
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Sun 0:20 – Bein Sports 1

SATURDAY
LIGUE 1 – MONACO v DIJON

Normally a match between 16th and 19th wouldn’t be worth including in the quick European Football Highlights, but Monaco have put all their survival hopes in big name Thierry Henry. Didn’t help last weekend as they lost, but are helped this week by facing the only team with worse form than them.

Prediction: Monaco 2-0
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Sun 4:55 – Bein Sports 3

SATURDAY
LA LIGA – CELTA VIGO v EIBAR

Our token game with out fvourite Spanish team. They are starting to pick up too.

Prediction: Eibar 2-1
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Sun 2:15 – Bein Sports 2.

SUNDAY SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP SEMIS – HEARTS v CELTIC

A head to head between first and second in the Scottish Premier League with a big surprises – one team leads by six points and it is not Celtic, it is Hearts from Edinburgh. This is for a spot in the League Cup Final, but they do meet again in next weekend in the league. Make it a double-header with Aberdeen v Rangers to follow.

Prediction: Hearts win on penalties.
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Mon 0:25 Bein Sports 1

SUNDAY
LA LIGA – REAL MADRID v BARCELONA

The big, big game of the weekend. Unbelievably, Real Madrid come into the game without a win in four games, and just got past Viktoria Plzen in midweek Champions League action. They could hardly be in worse form. Barcelona may be top of the league (just one point ahead of Alaves and Espanyol) but they haven’t been setting the world on fire and don’t have one Lionel Messi either. Could be quite the fizzer sadly. If it is only a fizzer of a result for Real Madrid, they will be on the search for a new manager come Monday.

Prediction: Draw 1-1
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Mon 2:10 Bein Sports 2

SUNDAY
SERIE A – NAPOLI v ROMA

Two big teams in 2nd and 7th, but separated by 7 points already. Both teams had decent results in the Champions League during the week. An important game this weekend, as a loss for Roma could see them 10 points behind Napoli second, with Juventus far away in front.

Prediction: Napoli 3-1
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Mon 6:30 Bein Sports 2

SUNDAY
LIGUE 1 – MARSEILLE V PSG

A match up at the other end of the table to our other French European Football Highlights. PSG are as dominant as any team in Europe, but their 10/10 league wins aren’t quite translating in Champions League points. This weekend we will see if the 4th placed Marseillie can cause the Multi-busting upset.

Prediction: PSG 3-1
Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – ADST Mon 6:55 Bein Sports 2

Premier League Predictions Week 10 – Gurgler v Fighting Managers

6
premier league predictions week 11

After another high quality midweek International interruption, the Premier League is back to liven up the weekends and once again we have our Premier League Predictions Week 10 ready.

Each game week we bring our unique look at the EPL with our mini preview, and our Premier League Predictions Week 10.

But anyone can offer up predictions. So each week we will put our Premier League predictions up against a guest tipster, but not necessarily a person, but based on a statistic or ridiculous idea which has varying links to football. It’s very much like BBC’s Lawro vs Somebody preview, but better. Arguably.

Like this week, for our Premier League Predictions Week 10 we put our selections up against tips based on which manager we think would win in a fight against the other, in honour of the touchline scuffle from last weekend at Chelsea.

Premier League Predictions Week 10 – Gurgler v Fighting Managers

Opponent Tips Background: One of the biggest talking points of Premier League Week 9 was the push and shove on the sidelines at Stamford Bridge. So we thought we’d use that talking point as a way to make opposition tips.

This one is very simple and subjective according to us. We compare the managers, and whichever manager we think would win a touchline bout gets the tip. Some proved too hard one way or another, so that ends up a draw. Feel free to argue against our boxing selections in the comments section. And enjoy our best of Touchline disputes from Youtube.

But first, our Premier League Predictions. Which we’ve given ourselves another dreaded full confidence of The Gurgler board after a dismal 4/10 last week.

Premier League Predictions Week 10 Quick Mini Preview

GAME BY GAME PREVIEW IN 25 WORDS OR LESS – SAVING YOU TIME

BRIGHTON v WOLVES

Wolves lost just their second game of the season, one many were expecting them to win against Fulham. Brighton won their first game of the season in Newcastle last weekend, which we’re still not sure if that was a surprise or not. Both teams have an identical 2-1-1 record home and away respectively. Glenn Murray is the key for the home side (and our FPL team) with his scoring exploits.

FULHAM v BOURNEMOUTH

Fulham have almost been the biggest disappointment of the Premier League season so far, so much promise had eventuated into so many conceded goals. They are on track to let in 106 for the season. Bournemouth are this season’s feelgood underdog story, still in sixth place and just four points behind the big teams. Hopes for plenty of goals, if not a Fulham win.

LIVERPOOL v CARDIFF

Good weekend for Cardiff last week as they scored their first win, jumped from last to out of relegation, and doubled their current season tally of goals. And their opponent this weekend defeated one of their rivals for the drop. Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield was several fewer than most thought, and one wonders about their form in general as they embark on a tough run of fixtures.

SOUTHAMPTON v NEWCASTLE

Here are two clubs many probably think are too big for the drop but aren’t looking very good at the moment. Newcastle did have an excuse of playing five of the top six already this season, but that wore out last weekend going down to Brighton at home. Southampton were our tip for value relegation at the start of the season, and nothing we’ve seen has changed our mind.

WATFORD v HUDDERSFIELD

Many thought Watford would revert to usual and go on a steady drift down the table after their spectacular start, their three losses in four before beating Wolves on the weekend were evidence of that. It still might happen, but the win at Wolves shows they still have plenty to offer, something they’ve shown against a lot of the big teams already this season. Huddersfield looked doomed right now, and only a change of manager or significant change in personnel can see that changing.

LEICESTER v WEST HAM

This will probably one of the more entertaining games of the weekend, a scrap between two lower midfield teams who should both be doing a little better. Both teams are only a two or three game losing streak from sacking their manager.

BURNLEY v CHELSEA

Burnley were not as bad as the 5-0 might look against Manchester City, an early Red Card to Vincent Kompany could have  changed the game. Although given the quality of the City goals, probably not still. Whilst Chelsea, and in particulr Eden Hazard, aren’t quite as good away from home, they are still 3/4 and will probably win this.

CRYSTAL PALACE v ARSENAL

The first of four massive games against big sides for Crystal Palace, which will determine if their slow start against the weaker sides is just a slow start or they are genuine relegation candidates. We say they are great relegation value as part of our wrap up of the weekend’s action. Arsenal are the form team of the competition, on a winning streak of seven league games. Fans are happy, players are happy. Everyone is happy. Except for Spurs fans who are behind Arsenal.

MANCHESTER UNITED v EVERTON

It could have been so much different had United held on for a win against Chelsea, but it wasn’t and now after Juventus handed them a Champions League lesson, they are reaching must win territory if they want to even think of top four. Everton are finding some decent form with three wins in a row. Although Everton don’t Manchester United very often. Eight times in 52 Premier League games.

SPURS v MANCHESTER CITY

The game of the weekend in terms of league position, playing style, and prestige. Manchester City were glorious last weekend against Burnley, and pretty good indeed in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk. Perhaps they will run away with the title after all. Spurs have a real chance to dent those hopes this weekend, and are on a decent run of four wins also. Spurs have one less day to prepare, but didn’t have to travel over most of Europe to play in the midweek Champions League.

Premier League Matchday 9 Highlights – The Own Goal

0
premier league matchday 9 highlights

Our former regular football piece The Own Goal returns for our thoughts on the Premier League Matchday 9 Highlights from the weekend gone.

We ask questions from the big weekend of football and answer them ourselves in a convenient Premier League Matchday 9 Highlights package.

Like which teams looks in real danger of relegation without knowing it. Are Liverpool better for winning the games they didn’t last year or are they just poor this season. And who would have thought Manchester United are now 10th.

On then to our Own Goal.

MANCHESTER CITY = WOW

For all of the talk of Liverpool challenging this season, and the incredibly tight battle at the top of the table, Saturday’s 5-0 win over Burnley was a sobering reminder to the rest of the Premier League of their powers.

Manchester City played the best football seen this year, and you would feel it is only going to get better with Kevin de Bruyne on his way back.

They are an Fantasy nightmare though, never sure which midfield superstar to take. Or defender.

With Champions League heavyweights Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and even Barcelona to a degree not going as well, this could be the season for overdue European success as well as a Premier League title.

TIGHT AT THE TOP

For all of Manchester City’s magnificence and Liverpool and Chelsea’s unbeaten-ness there is a super title race going on this season.

Just two points covers the top five, with only Manchester United missing out.

It will end up coming down to the best squad when Europe and knockout competitions kick in, and you;d have to say that the top three are likely to remain that based on what we’ve seen so far. But as a neutral it is great viewing so far.

FULHAM MAY BE NICE, BUT THE PROMOTION PLAYOFF WINNERS MOSTLY STRUGGLES, MOSTLY.

As a big Football League fan, there was lots of hope Fulham could turn their good time form from the second tier into Premier League Highlights every weekend.

Sadly, the only joy was a 4-2 win over a Burnley who were a busted arse tired unit at that point.

That’s after spending a tonne of cash in the summer.

Conceding 4 goals to Cardiff is a sign of big trouble. Considering that Cardiff had only scored 4 goals in total up to that point.

The stats are against them as the promotion playoff winner. In the 17 seasons since the magnificent efforts of Ipswich Town to finish 5th (third at Xmas) nine of the teams have relegated first year. The average finishing position of the 17 sides is 16th, with an average goal difference of -25 and points haul of 36.

Let’s hope they kick on soon, and they might just do that. Fulham did drop to as low as 17th in the Championship last season in November before going on a season record of 23 games unbeaten.

CRYSTAL PALACE ARE GREAT VALUE FOR THE DROP

Granted Crystal Palace are going much better than last season where they started off with 7 games, 0 wins and 0 goals scored, but we think they are tremendous value for the drop this season.

Currently they are in 15th place, however they have only played Liverpool of the big teams, and face a 4 game run in the Premier League of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester United. Even Middlesbrough in the League Cup won’t be easy.

Their 7 points after 9 games with just 5 goals scored could very well be still 7 points after 13 games and not too many more scored. In comparison, last season after 13 games they were on 8 points and has scored 8 goals after their blank start. Hard to think they could be in a worse position than last season.

They rely on Zaha for goals to win games, and he has three, but with him prone to injuries, especially after spending most of the games being kicked, one wonders if they might just find themselves in a relegation scrap for the rest of the season.

Crystal Palace are currently $6 for the drop.

FOR ONCE MOURINHO WASN’T THE BIGGEST JERK

The biggest talking point of the weekend was the scuffle in technical area of Manchester United. For once Jose was not the aggressor.

After watching the first half of Chelsea and Manchester united it was hard to see how Manchester United could be leading into injury time.

Perhaps Jose should tell United that they are one of two nil down in the shed before the game kicks off. They sure play better.

Who Cares Midweek Football League Predictions October 23 – 24

0

There’s nothing more we like than a full program of boredom busting midweek Football League fixtures, except for making our Midweek Football League Predictions.

With 36 games to be played over mostly early Wednesday morning Australian time and a few on Thursday along with some Champions League, there’s almost too much football. Almost.

As eve, we think we know everything, so we offer up our Midweek Football League Predictions.

And Who Cares? We do, and you should too.

What happened in the Football League on the Weekend?

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the big ticket items from the weekend.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Middlesbrough stole the Championship lead as the next three sides all lost (Sheffield Utd, West Brom, Leeds Utd).

Behind those four there are just five points between Derby County (5th) and Bolton (18th).

Our beloved Ipswich Town look in real danger of slipping into League One. Oh, to have the mid table mediocrity back.

LEAGUE ONE

Portsmouth have opened up a nice six point gap to second (Peterborough) and the rest of the top six are within another two points.

One of those top six sides is minnows Accrington Stanley, the Football League’s story of the season. They are on equal points with big name Sunderland.

Bad news for our favourite League One side AFC Wimbledon who dropped into the bottom four. Worse for Plymouth who loss to Burton at home, a side who previously hadn’t got a point away.

LEAGUE TWO

None of the top three won, but Lincoln remain on top, four points clear of Exeter and one more to Newport.

Macclesfield might still be last, but they won their first game on the weekend, the last team to do so in the Football League.

Bad weekend for Harry Kewell whose new side Notts County lost 4-0 to Bury and old team climbed to 8th with a 4-1 win over Newport.

An Obituary – Shaun Marsh’s Test Career

0
obituary shaun marsh

We are gathered here today, to celebrate the life and end of Shaun Marsh’s test career.

Shaun Marsh, son of Geoff and brother to the slightly more talented Mitchell, has been a Test cricketer since September 2011, and despite polarising opinion throughout most of that time, it is still a sad time.

They say people like something you do early and something just before the end, and in Shaun Marsh’s case, he at least ticks the first box.

He peaked early with a magnificent 141 on debut in Sri Lanka, and a career was ready to bloom like a Bougainvillea vines choking the suburban six-foot fence.

Sadly, like a lot of debut centurions, the early promise has never been quite fulfilled.

Not that he didn’t try, nor did the selectors not give him every chance. He was dropped and born again like a movie star in and out of rehab.

And, it was not as if he was a completed busted arse that never did anything. He did.

He has scored some wonderful centuries, recently against England.

But with every century there was a little thought in the back of the mind, “Great – that score will keep in the side until the next run of failures.”

For instance these are the stats for his batting in between the centuries.

  • Average 16 – 1 Half Century in 10 Innings
  • Average 25 – 3 Half Centuries in 17 Innings (1 No)
  • Average 25 – 4 Half Centuries in 12 Innings
  • Average 28 – 1 Half Century in 4 innings
  • Average 13 – 0 Half Centuries in 12 innings

He is not young, but age isn’t everything and the test batsman is a specie who can outlive other professional athletes, but it does work against him now.

Fair enough if you drop a player a few times to get their confidence back, but at his age can you expect him to kick on after so many chances.

May as well let a much younger player suffer the same fate, as the on pitch numbers can’t be too different, but the years ahead for potential improvement are.

Some regard Shaun Marsh as the Mitchell Pearce of Australian Cricket, he even looks like him a bit. A very fine talent, dropped and reborn without success at Origin level. Who has some very good days, but Australia will never win consistently with him. Much as NSW proved this year in the State of Origin once the Pearce link was severed.

It is easy to pick on Shaun Marsh, so we have, even in his final hours and the pads aren’t quite dry yet from the scorching Dubai heat.

But that Dubai heat sadly saw another chapter of disappointment in a career which has had more chances than most cricketers in history.

He’s had his go, and we congratulate him on his Test Career, and wish him eternal rest in the Sheffield Shield and various T20 competitions across the world.

Shaun Marsh will be survived in the Test side by his brother Mitchel Marsh for at least another series before India expose his inadequacies with the red ball, and relative mediocrity with the bat outside the occasional T20 innings in Test cricket.

The Champions League returns this week, and like most football we think we know everything and have our Champions League Matchday 3 Predictions ready.

And as ever we put our tips up against a unique opponent, usually based on a football statistic but sometimes not, much like our semi popular Premier League tips.

We’ll also throw in a minimum of information for a quick preview of Champions League Matchday 3 Predictions for those on the go.

Time to set the alarm and get up that little bit early in Australia, or get home early from work/the pub elsewhere for Champions League Matchday 3 .

Gurgler v National Championships Won

Opponent Tips Background: We have used current league position for Matchday 1 and national league titles for Matchday 2 and we are not runnign out of ideas just yet. , \

Given we use the great Who Scored website for most of our Football stats, why not use the great resource to come up with a stat to pick winners from.

For Matchday 3 we are using each team’s Who Scored Team Rating from the respective national leagues, unless it is not covered liek in the smaller league, where we take the Who Scored rating from this year’s Champions League.

The higher the Who Scored rating, that team gets the tip. All ratings are at the end for mild interest.

The Gurgler’s selections are based on a mixture of listening to multiple podcasts and reading way too many websites, added with ignorance to all of that with our own thoughts.

Champions League Matchday 3 – Four Games to Watch

You can’t watch everything, well actually you can if you have Optus Sport and no job or life, so we select our four games to watch for the Champions League Matchday 3 ahead.

Times in ADST for the poor souls who have to get up early.

MANCHESTER UNITED v JUVENTUS (Wed 6:00am)

After a decent showing against Chelsea in the Premier League they have to take on one of the most in-form teams in Europe. Although Juventus did draw also this weekend against Genoa, it was their first dropped points of the season, and they have Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United don’t, but they still have some decent players – more than enough to be ahead of Watford and Wolves in the Premier League. A win could turn the corner for Jose Mourinho.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND v ATLETICO MADRID (Thu 6:00am)

Bundesliga leaders Dortmund welcome one of Europe’s most consistent teams from the past few seasons in Atletico Madrid. The week’s hipster’s choice.

BARCELONA v INTER MILAN (Thu 6:00am)

Barcelona are back on top of La Liga and they put on a masterclass against Spurs last matchday Inter Milan are coming off the big Milan derby. A win for either of the 100% sides could just about seal passage to the next stage.

PSG v NAPOLI (Thu 6:00am)

Napoli are the surprise leaders if Group C, with one game winners Liverpool and PSG 1 point behind. PSG’s only loss this year has come in the Champions League – they are 100% in Ligue 1 with 30 points and a 31 goal difference after 10 games. 17 goals between Mbappe and Neymar. Napoli are second in Serie A but did knock Liverpool off last matchday.

How to Watch Champions League in Australia

Sadly the Champions League action is now on Optus Sport.

Not that the Optus Sport coverage is that bad, when it works, but it just means another $15 a month to follow decent football.

Perhaps the addition of the Champions League might tempt some to join, it means you can watch everything and EPL.

Note: we aren’t paid or are receiving Optus for free, it is quality coverage, but are quite happy to receive it for nothing if they offer.

Who Cares EFL Football League Predictions Matchday 13 & Preview

0

After an International break allowed Leagues One and Two and Non League football in England to be top dog for a day, the Championship returns, as does our Who Cares EFL Football League Predictions Matchday 13 & Preview.

Each matchday we will try to bundle up the EFL Football League into a tight package for those who sort of care, but not too much. We care a lot as an Ipswich Town fan.

As much as we love the Premier League with our weekly predictions, our first true love is the 72 teams below the big money, hence the effort put in for our Who Cares EFL Football League Predictions Matchday 13 & Preview.

Why do we say a Who Cares preview? Mainly because it is a league often ignored by the sport masses, and our previous weekly previews were literally read by no one, they may not care until promotion season, but we certainly do all season. And we’ve got to be different to the big websites previews.

Of course you could get a better preview elsewhere with more in-depth stats like from Who Scored, but we’re trying to give just enough information to stay in touch with a minimum of effort.

Who Cares EFL Football League Predictions & Preview Week 13

To kick off our EFL Football League preview we’ll go through the good, bad and ugly of each division, with the barest minimum of stats to help you find a winner or impress a friend.

CHAMPIONSHIP

The Championship is back from a a break, and before they left Sheffield United have snuck to the top of the pile. West Brom are winning the relegated team battle by securing second place. They overtook Leeds who are now third and Middlesbrough a point further back after being beaten by Nottingham Forest whose boss Karanka took revenge on the club he was sacked from. Leeds and Nottingham Forest have lost the fewest games with one.

Talking of Forest, there are just three points between them in fifth down to 14th on the table. The Championship is as close and unpredictable as ever.

Three of the bottom five won last start, including a first win of the season to Ipswich. Preston got their first since the first weekend.

One mildly interesting stat is the teams that are currently on two losses in the first 12 games – they are currently sitting 2nd, 4th, 7th, 10th and Birmingham in 17th. Birmingham are on the longest current unbeaten run.

No wonder they say it is the toughest league in Europe.

[soccer-info id=’20’ type=’table’ style=’blue_light’ columns=’#,Team,MP,W,D,L,G,P’ highlight=’685||Ipswich Town’ title=’CURRENT CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE’ /]

GOOD

Doesn’t get any better at the moment than winning four in a row like Sheffield United and moving to the top of the Championship. Thanks to Ipswich discard David McGoldrick of course. West Brom winning the form table and scoring tonnes of goals, which is a nice change from perennial EPL relegation scrapping.

Best Last 6 Form – West Brom 14pts
Biggest Current Unbeaten Streak – Birmingham 8
Biggest Current Winning Streak – Sheffield Utd 4
Best Home Form (Current) – West Brom 15pts (+13)
Best Away Form (Current) – Leeds Utd/Sheff Utd 12pts
Most Goals Scored (Season) – West Brom 31
Fewest Goals Conceded (Season) – Middlesbrough 6

BAD

Bad news for Hull last start as two of the bottom three won and they didn’t. They are now last.

Worst Last 6 Form – Bolton/Hull/Preston 4pts
Biggest Current Winless Streak – Brentford/Bristol/Hull/Roth’m  4
Biggest Current Loss Streak – Reading/Hull/Bolton  2
Worst Home Form (Last 6) – Reading 3pts – (-2) w 1 win
Worst Away Form (Last 6) – Rotherham 0pts – no points away this season.

UGLY

Brentford have now drawn four of their last five and the other result was a loss. And now they have lost their manager Dean Smith to Aston Villa. Pity, they looked good against Leeds recently.

Most draws last 6 – Brentford/Birmingham – 4 draws
Most draws for season – Birmingham – 8 draws
Fewest Goals scored (Season) – QPR/Rotherham 9
Most Goals Conceded (Season) – Preston 24

LEAGUE ONE

Portsmouth got over their first loss of the season by beating AFC Wimbledon away last weekend, keeping top spot of the table for another week. Peterborough remain second. Both look good for promotion right now.

Accrington Stanley continue to do their fine job and sit sixth on the ladder. An amazing achievement given the budget and size of the club.

[soccer-info id=’21’ type=’table’ style=’blue_light’ columns=’#,Team,MP,W,D,L,G,P’ highlight=’4593||AFC Wimbledon’ title=’CURRENT LEAGUE ONE TABLE’ /]

GOOD

The top two look solid for promotion, but there’s happier times fo Sunderland who are on an unbeaten run of 4 games and sit fourth.

Best Last 6 Form – Accrington/Southend/Portsmth 13pts
Biggest Current Unbeaten Streak – Blackpool – 9 Games
Biggest Current Winning Streak – Barnsley/Fleetwood/Coventry 2 wins
Best Home Form (Current) – Luton 14pts
Best Away Form (Current) – Peterborough / Portsmouth 16pts
Most Goals Scored (Season) – Peterborough 30
Fewest Goals Conceded (Season) – Barnsley/Blackpool – 9

BAD

Sadly our club AFC Wimbledon lost their fifth game of six and the drop zone awaits. At the bottom Plymouth stole last spot off Oxford after losing to them last weekend at home.

Worst Last 6 Form – AFC Wimbledon 3pts
Biggest Current Winless Streak – Rochdale 5
Biggest Current Loss Streak – AFC Wimbledon 3
Worst Home Form (Last 6) – AFC Wimbledon 3pts
Worst Away Form (Last 6) – Burton 1pt

UGLY

Scunthorpe United sacked their manager in late August, and after the good initial run, they have now lost two in a row and sit 13th. New manager bounce has come and gone perhaps.

Most draws last 6 – 7 Clubs with three draws
Most draws for season – Blackpool 7 Draws
Fewest Goals scored (Season) – Bristol R/Plymouth 9
Most Goals Conceded (Season) – Rochdale 28

LEAGUE TWO

Lincoln City are going from strength to strength in League Two. Top of the League by four points and a handy seven to the playoff places. Their 6-2 away win at Port Vale is some statement. Forest Green finally lost a game becoming the last Football League team to do so. Macclesfield are still last and winless, a stat exclusively theirs now.

[soccer-info id=’22’ type=’table’ style=’blue_light’ columns=’#,Team,MP,W,D,L,G,P’ title=’CURRENT LEAGUE TWO TABLE’ /]

GOOD

Harry Kewell is starting to work his magic at Notts County with three wins in a row. Milton Keynes and Tranmere also are on a run of three straight and they both sit nicely in 4th and 5th.

Best Last 6 Form – Lincoln 15pts
Biggest Current Unbeaten Streak – Exeter 7
Biggest Current Winning Streak – Notts Co/MK/Tranmere 3 wins
Best Home Form (Last 6) – Lincoln 15 pts
Best Away Form (Last 6) – Lincoln 13 pts
Most Goals Scored (Season) – Colchester 28
Fewest Goals Conceded (Season) – Milton Keynes 8

BAD

Doesn’t get any worse than being winless and last team of the Football League for poor old Macclesfield. Cambridge’s winless streak isn’t far behind, they’ve lost five of six and are in the bottom two with them.

Worst Last 6 Form – Cambridge 1pt
Biggest Current Winless Streak – Macclesfield 13 Games
Biggest Current Loss Streak – Cambridge 4 Games
Worst Home Form (Last 6) – Cambridge
Worst Away Form (Last 6) – Crewe/Macclesfield 1pt

UGLY

Port Vale were thumped 6-2 at home, the third loss in a row. They are down to 16th place now.

Most draws last 6 – 5 Teams 3 draws
Most draws for season – Forest Green Rovers 8 draws
Fewest Goals scored (Season) – Cheltenham 9
Most Goals Conceded (Season) – Notts Co/Cambridge 26

Alternative Policies to It’s OK To Be White – The Gurgler Party

0
It's OK To Be White

The It’s OK To Be White policy launched by Pauline Hanson has been discussed, voted on, supported by the government and then not supported by the government. A busy week in Canberra indeed.

We prefer not to get too involved in the It’s OK To Be White, as that is for professional politicians and other parties, but we think if that kind of legislation can be introduced then why not have a go ourselves.

So we’d like to announce that The Gurgler Party of Australia will be running for the senate in Queensland at the next federal election, and why wouldn’t we given the “diverse” range of people and parties selected in the Sunshine State in recent years. Some of them are in Canberra with less personal Senate votes than people who visit our website. And that is low.

At the heart of our polices are a range of It’s OK policies, which we will attempt to force through the Senate in the first three months of our term. Like It’s OK To Be White, but far less polarising and less relevant to most people today.

IT’S OK TO SAY NO TO CC’S

Despite the insistence of the very catchy advertisement, The Gurgler Party will uphold your right as a citizen to Say No to CC’s.

Australians are entitled in our democratic society to choose whatever heavily salted snack treat they wish, be it pretzels, jerky or any flavour of Samboys.

So vote with The Gurgler at the next federal election, and we will fight for your right to say no to CC’s.

IT’S OK TO BE THAT PERSON IN THE SOUTHS JERSEY

It seems that at any and every sporting event televised somewhere around the country there is a person in a South Sydney jersey. We think that’s great and we say that It’s OK to Be That Person In The Souths Jersey.

Freedom of choice is important to our potential votes, so be the sport A League, WWE wrestling, Darts, or an NRL game that doesn’t involve the Rabbitohs, it doesn’t matter to us.

What does matter is your right to wear that Souths Jersey to anything.

IT’s OK TO BE THE OFFICE JERK

The business world has become a dog eat dog world of ambition where career is king. That’s fine for some and/or most, but we also look out for the person who isn’t interested in a Linked In profile, personal development or any manner of Roadshow, Town Hall, Blue Sky Session or Company function.

If you want to be an anti-social jerk, it is your right to do so.

Let the others fight for glory, while you look after number 1.

Mandatory, is just a state of mind.

As long as you do not offend with your behaviour or language, our It’s OK To Be The Office Jerk will be put forward in parliament to protect your rights in the office.

IT’S OK TO GO TO AN A LEAGUE GAME

A League is sometimes seen as one of the lower rungs of Australian sports fans, usually by ignorant winter football code jerks.

But, as ever, The Gurgler Party will protect your right to watch whatever sport you like.

If the Mariners do more for you than the Titans, then your beliefs shouldn’t be ridiculed or persecuted.

Please note, that the bill will not cover Rugby Union.

IT’S OK TO ORDER A WELL DONE STEAK

Steak connoisseurs will look down their nose at anyone who dares to order a Well Done steak. So will chefs if you do it within 5 minutes of the kitchen closing. Fair enough to a degree on that one.

You’ve probably heard it a million times about how you’re wasting your hard-earned turning a piece of meat into rubber.

But you won’t tell them how to butter their bread, so they can shove their meat advice up their rump.

Our intention to back you up is the It’s OK to Order a Well Done Steak. Your Meat, Your Way.

IT’S OK TO NOT LIKE ANY NEWS LTD MEDIA

Th current government might want to tell some media what to do, as they in turn are told by other media outlets on what to do.

Like News Ltd.

Well we say It’s OK Not To Like Any News Ltd Media.

Hard to do in Brisbane with only one newspaper, but our bill will support you.

IT’S OK TO BE A MANLY FAN

Our versions of the It’s OK TO Be White legislation is all about freedom of choice, no matter how unpopular.

So to protect the rights of sports fans to support whoever they like we offer up It’s OK To Be A Manly Fan.

Most people don’t get to choose their team, it is frequently handed down in a family ceremony. Some luck in with a good time, others et a team who end up waiting over 40 years for a premiership.

Even if your side sucks, and/or everyone hates them, you should still be able to support with pride and without prejudice.

Vote One The Gurgler Party in the Senate in 2019 to know that It’s OK to be a Manly Fan.

Although, there will be a clause of It’s Not OK to like Michael Slater.

IT’S OK TO PUT GIANT DINOSAURS WHEREVER YOU LIKE

This one is essentially upholding your right to be as big a Jerk on your own property as you like, as long as it doesn’t negatively affect your neighbours.

For instance, if own your own golf course, our bill will support your right to put a dinosaur on your golf course if that is what you want.

Similar to the Office Jerk, but this bill would apply to your own personal property.

Bein Sports European Football Highlights #8 2018-2019

European Football Predictions

The weekend is here, and that means way too much European Football to keep up with. So to try and save you time and remind ourselves of what to watch we offer the Bein Sports European Football Highlights for another weekend for Australian fans and those who stumble across the website.

Some might call it hipster football, we don’t, it’s pure sports nerd goodness. Gives us an Eibar, Sassuolo, or Borussia Monchengladbach any time.

And too much football is barely enough we like to say. Enjoy it this weekend, as another international break looms.

But if you have a life and can’t watch everything, we offer up our Best Of Bein Sports European Football Highlights, to help you follow the best of it live, without the need to stay up for absolutely everything.

Bein Sports European Football Highlights

This weekend sees some top games at top of the table clashes in Italy and France, plus we will see whether the big teams can get back to winning ways.

Here are the best of the European Football games on BeIn Sports according to us.

Times are for Australian Daylight Savings Time. Other time zones are lucky enough to watch some stuff before midnight.

SATURDAY 05:55 ADST
BEIN SPORTS 1 – CH513
LA LIGA – CELTA VIGO v ALAVES

Who’d think that Alaves would be fourth and above Real Madrid on the table, after holding them to a draw last start. Celta Vigo surprised early by beating Atletico Madrid, but haven’t won in five games, but are still 10th. A good early Saturday morning wake up match.

Prediction: Draw 1-1

SATURDAY 21:55 ADST
BEIN SPORTS 2 – CH514
LA LIGA – REAL MADRID v LEVANTE

It has been decades since Real Madrid have been on such a bad run of results, it is refreshing for neutrals or Eibar fans to see the big guns have an adjustment now and again. You would think that this is the game where Real Madrid start the turnaround, but Levante have won their first and last away games this year, a solid 50% win rate.

Prediction: Real Madrid 3-0

SUNDAY 05:40 ADST
BEIN SPORTS 2 – CH514
LA LIGA – BARCELONA v SEVILLA

This match features first v second, but it is Sevilla who still on top of the ladder. Barcelona have not won in four games, where the league leaders have won all of their last four games. No team has scored more goals at home this season than Barcelona (14 in 4 games) and no team has scored more goals away this season than Sevilla away (13 in 4 games). Potential for plenty of goals and 1st v 2nd, what’s not to like.

Prediction: Barcelona 4-2

SUNDAY 10:55 ADST (Delayed)
BEIN SPORTS 3 – CH515
LA LIGA – STUTTGART v BORUSSIA DORTMUND

A nice Sunday morning delayed telecast of German football. Although it is first v last, league leaders Dortmund are scoring more than three goals a match, so should be plenty of entertainmnet. A win will keep them on top, in a strange start to the season where Bayern Muncih are only sixth currently. The gap from second to sixth is only one point.

Prediction: Dortmund 3-1

MONDAY 01:15 ADST
BEIN SPORTS 2 – CH514
LA LIGA – EIBAR v ATHLETIC BILBAO

Our weekly Eibar telecast, and there’s never been a better time to play Athletic Bilbao as they sit 17th with only one win on the opening weekend. Eibar won a very entertaining game last time out 3-2 away at Girona.

Prediction: Draw 1-1

MONDAY 05:30 ADST
BEIN SPORTS 1 – CH513
SERIE A – INTER MILAN v AC MILAN

One of the big Italian match ups for the season, both teams in reasonable form. Inter are third on the back of four straight wins. AC Milan are unbeaten in six matches, but only two straight win, which sees them four points behind in 10th. What a way to end the weekend and start the weekdays.

Prediction: Inter 2-1

Ultimate Sloth Weekend Sports TV Guide Australia – October 18 to October 22

October 2019 Jerk of the Month

Our Ultimate Sloth Weekend Sports TV Guide Australia is here on the weekend featuring a good mix of weekend sports in the footy off season.

With so much sport, and so many other jobs and people needing your attention on the weekend it is important to balance that out, to give you as much sloth time as possible.

Which is why we offer up the Ultimate Sloth Weekend TV Sports Guide for Australia, a suggestion of the best of the Australian TV Sport this weekend.

You will of course need a subscription sports package, but any mad Australian sports fan couldn’t survive on a diet of Gus Gould, Stats McAvaney and the poor excuse Channel Ten have for their F1 coverage these days.

Ultimate Sloth Weekend Sports TV Guide Australia Highlights

Here’s a quick overview of what’s ahead, with the full Ultimate Sloth Weekend TV Sports Guide for Australia  with times and channels following

CRICKET

We get to see the Australian test side in action again, and we look much more competitive this time. Well, before the batting collpase that happens after we submit this. Solid evening sloth viewing though.

FOOTBALL

The A League kicks off and like the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, you may as well get interested early before inevitably checking the results sporadically as the race goes on.

Chelsea play Man Utd in the EPL on SBS on Saturday night. Will probably be 0-0. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

There’s also a Milan derby for the sports nerd.

MOTORSPORT

Another triple treat. The ultimate mogan event on the Gold Coast for a big V8’s race on Saturday and Sunday.

Then there’s another daytime Moto GP from Japan.

And wrapping up the weekend nicely very early Monday morning is the US Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton will probably win the title and hear a giant cowboy hat.

RUGBY LEAGUE

Australia suffered a shock loss to New Zealand last weekend, and Tonga looks just as strong, if not more. And it will liekly be a sell out at the game. Unlike the NZ v Australia game last weekend. Probably the highlight sport for the weekend.

Ultimate Sloth Weekend Sports TV Guide Australia – October 18 to October 22

DRINK OF THE WEEK

It’s hard to imagine a weekend of sport on the lounge without a refreshing beverage, and each week we’ll recommend one for you as an accompaniment to all that sport.

THIS MONTH – SP LAGER

Nothing says refreshment like PNG’s finest beer, and a big weekend of sport needs a full strength, full flavour, full refreshement beer.
