2025 NRL Round 24 Results – Monday’s Experts Key Learnings

It’s easy to throw around a few stats post matches in a Monday’s experts, and we certainly do that, but our Monday’s Experts Key Learning tries to guide you into considering some key stats from the weekend to remember for your next tipping adventure.

NEWCASTLE ARE POINTLESS

Amazingly, Newcastle’s first half blot was their 12th of the season. A clear six worse than the next worst team in South Sydney, who lost a million in a row. Most other teams have done it only three times.

Good news for Knights fans is they have won at least two of those games where they score zero in the first forty minutes. Bulldogs have won two of their three games with a pointless first half. Broncos and Roosters winning their only games with pointless first halves.

Interestingly, the Broncos are worst for the pointless second half with four, winning none of those games.

2025 NRL Round 24 Results Pointless Halves

HOME WINNERS

This round saw only one home side lose, and that was the Panthers in golden point. So that made us wonder how the home sides have done this season by round and whether 7/8 is significant or not.

Sort of, it’s only happened one other time this season.

2025 NRL Round 24 Results Home Record

YOU CAN’T (ALMOST) BEAT MELBOURNE ON A THURSDAY

Melbourne are proving very hard to beat on a Thursday, and what luck for them that they have more games on a Thursday to come. Some say it’s convenient to help keep them competitive, some say they have to do it to avoid being ignored by AFL fans. We wouldn’t say either for the risk of offending Craig Bellamy, and AFL fans don’t care about the Storm yet on any day, it is only August.

But…..

Melbourne have won all five Thursday games this season.
Melbourne have won 15 of their last 16 Thursday games.
Melbourne have won seven in a row on a Thursday away to a Sydney team.
Melbourne have won nine of their last ten away trips on a Thursday.
Melbourne have won seven of their last eight games top half sides on a Thursday.

Oh, and if they’re at home…

Melbourne have never lost a Thursday game at home (20 matches)

BRISBANE THE KINGZ OF QLD

Broncos have won all five games v Qld opposition this season, four of those games being at Suncorp Stadium. They get a chance to make it a 2025 clean sweep in Round 26.

Interestingly, another Queensland side is the worst against Queensland sides – the Gold Coast. Like the Broncos they get another game against a Queensland side when they play the Dolphins in Round 27.

2025 NRL Round 24 Results v Qld Sides

OTHER BITS AND PIECES

Warriors have won all five home games at Mt Smart Stadium v Dragons on a Friday.

Dragons have the worst away record this season with W2 L9. They have also lost six in a row away. Next week’s game v Rabbitohs is their last away for the season, and is only at the Olympic Stadium.

Roosters have won 11 of their last 12 games at Allianz Stadium on a Friday. It’s nine in a row at Allianz Stadium v Sydney teams on a Friday. They still have one more home game there on a Friday this season.

Cronulla have won 11 of their past 12 games v Gold Coast.

No matter how bad Souths are going, they must be pleased to play Gold Coast and Parramatta back to back. Against the Gold Coast they have won ten in a row, and against Parramatta it is now nine wins of their last tens v Parramatta and it’s five in a row at the Olympic Stadium and seven in a row on a Saturday.

Wests Tigers have won the only three games v Manly at the Sydney Football Stadium.

North Queensland have won all seven games v Newcastle at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, plus four more before that at the previous ground.

Newcastle have won two of their last 25 games away to Qld sides in Qld.

2025-26 Premier League Kits – Best

25-26 premier league kits - best 2

BEST

We’re a sucker for a Crystal Palace kit, always, so no surprise the home kit finds it way into our top ones for the season.

Sometimes less is more, which is the case for the Chelsea and Liverpool away kits, and always good to see Liverpool back with Adidas where they belong.

People may not like the Red Bull logos or ownership of Leeds, but like the F1 cars they do tend to make nice sporting kit. Leeds’ third kit is our favourite and looks even better at night in New York with Greg. Their away one looks good too, but only room for one Leeds kit here.

Looking better than ever is Bournemouth’s home offering this season, same for Nottingham Forest with a real classic look that people would probably pay 100’s of Pounds for at Classic Football Shirts website.

Rounding out the best of kits for the Premier League this season Arsenal’s electric blue away shirt and Burnley’s black alternative. Making the top eight for kits is probably as good as Burnley will do this season, but they are set to be relegated in style.

2025-26 Premier League Kits – Worst

BLURST

Man City’s third shirt is as ugly as they get, like a faded road worker’s safety shirt. Which could be a good metaphor for Manchester City’s 2024-25 season with a Stop and Go sign.

Aqua and purple pastels always look awful on a football shirt, so Wolves and Brighton have helped themselves to bargain bin a few months down the track.

And if playing Cluedo at home, it was the Mustard shirt, with a candlestick, in a giant fireplace with gas. So Crystal Palace have a foot in both football kits imaginations this seasons.

One wonders why a team would want to look like a hockey umpire, but Fulham apparently don’t wonder, they accept.

Brighton have answered the question what a replacement for the Bananas in Pyjamas Children’s show will wear.

John West will surely reject the away Burnley kit.

FOOTBALL | 2025-26 Season Football Draws Selections – 15-19 July 2025

2025-26 Season Football Draws

Most of the big football competitions are starting to gear up for their new seasons, but that doesn’t mean other football isn’t happening and isn’t great, and that doesn’t mean all the games need a winner and a loser. They say there can only be winners and losers in sport, but of course they’re wrong and they’re fools, there’s always the draw, and who doesn’t love a draw where everyone wins. Those winners include canny punters who look for value, and The Gurgler website is always happy to help with opinion and stats, so welcome to our 2025-26 Season Football Draws Selections for 15-19 July 2025.

Our resident draw expert Frankington Stanley runs his keen eye over the many football divisions around the world to find the best draws for you. He’s sort of like the John West of Football draws, he hates Dog Salmon and lop sided fixtures.

Frankington Stanley is not fussy, no country or continent is out of bounds, and the more obscure the better. And some of them are quite obscure. They don’t even feature on the Who Scored website.

So grab an oversized spoon for another weekly serving of the finest Football Draw tips from all over the world, where The Gurgler and Frankington Stanley take the stale out of stalemate.

Football Draws Selections – Best of the Week

Sweden 1. Division – Ettan Norra – AFC Eskilstuna v Assyriska FF

SATURDAY 16 JULY 3PM

Three of the last five games between these sides ended in a draw. Good news for this weekend as two of the last three at Eskilstuna ended in a draw too. Looking at the ladder, the teams sits 8th and 9th, with the exact same record of W6 D5 L6. Honour look even here.

Football Draws Selections – Premier League Special

LEEDS v EVERTON

MONDAY 18 JULY 8PM

Nervous promoted side Leeds v notorious slow starters Everton. Everton’s record v promoted teams last season was W3 D2 L1. Everton are undefeated in their last five games v Leeds (W3 D2).

Football Draws Selections – Other Solid Choices

Iceland 1. Deild – Fylkir v Keflavik

SUNDAY 17 JULY 3PM

Ice cold Iceland football, but red hot for a draw. And Iceland has a lot of volcanoes. Separated by just 50km in the capital of Iceland Reykjavík, our resident draw expert sees them separated by even less on the weekend. Three of the last five games between these sides have ended in a 1-1 draw. Although all of those games were at Keflavik. Fylkir are currently last with three losses in a row so an away draw might be a good enough result. Certainly good enough for canny draw punters and Mr Ian Goodenough.

Poland I Liga – Stal Rzeszow vs Puszcza Niepolomice

SATURDAY 16 JULY 6:30PM

Early days in the I Liga of Poland, but that hasn’t stopped Puszcza Niepolomice from being busy with the draws. Three in their first four games of the season. Good news for draw fans all over the world is their only away game so far has been a draw. More good news is that Stal Rzeszow’s last home game was a draw. The H2H is a bit light for draws, you need to go back three games at Stal Rzeszow and down a division for the last draw between these sides.

Slovenia 2. Division – Slovan Ljublana v NK Bilje

FRIDAY 15 AUGUST 4:30PM

These teams are playing just their second game of the season, and both sides will need improvement after losing their opening fixture. Not too much improvement mind you, just a little from each side. Enough to share a point. Talking of sharing, the last game between these sides just a couple of months ago ended 0-0. No bore draw, as any draw is a win.

Turkey 1. Lig – 2025/2026 Sivasspor v Bodrum FK

SUNDAY 17 JULY 3PM

Another early season selection from the second tier in Turkey aka Turkiye. Thankfully Bodrum FK have started their season with an early draw, getting into the right mood early. Sivasspor lost on the road, so a home draw may suit. The last game between these sides was just over two months ago and ended 0-0. No goals for them, plenty of win for you.

Poland II Liga – Chojniczanka Chojnice v TS Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala

FRIDAY 15 AUGUST 12PM

Some might say it’s lazy picking a draw here because the teams have too long a name to try and pick a winner, but that’s simply not true. What is true is that the last game between these sides in April ended in a 1-1 draw. Another league that is early in the season, both teams have managed a draw from their first three games gladly.

2025-26 Premier League Season Predictions

The new Premier League season isn’t far away, and every man, woman, and where talent permits, dog, will have their thoughts on who will win anything and everything this season. Our website is no different, so we offer up our 2025-26 Premier League Season Predictions.

This is the first in what will be a hastily arranged series of Season Previews, and our yearly We Told You So attempt features as many stats as we could arrange from last season and beyond, with various calculations to allow for promotion and relegation, using on and off field stats.

There’s last season’s stats for the whole season, and more recent time periods to allow for teams that were improving or not towards the end of the season, overall season performance for the last three seasons, team stats (All from Who Scored) , transfer market values and changes from TransferMarkt, xG, and not much more.

All of the stats are rolled up into order, and our Premier League winners and losers explained below.

And if you want to see our 2025-26 English Football League Season Predictions, please feel free to do so here.

2025-26 Premier League Season Predictions

2025-26 Premier League Season Predictions 1

WINNERS

It seems pretty simple. Last year’s winners Liverpool have gone berserk in the Transfer Market, so should be even better, so should win the title again. Simples. But life usually isn’t that simple, and no doubt reality will pull down the pants of our prediction model, but then we can blame all the stats. So Liverpool it is to win another title to the lack of joy of most other Premier League fans.

Most people would agree that last season’s Man City team was one of the worst this decade, and maybe even further back. That’s a bit unfair, the team wasn’t too bad, it’s just they lost a lot of games. You presume they won’t slip up again so badly in 2025-26. But our stats say improvement is not enough to overtake Liverpool. It may depends on how fit Haaland is during the season.

Arsenal fans moaning about always coming second recently will be happy to know our predictions has them coming third. It still means they can ignore the cup competitions and get knocked out after the first knockout stage of Champions League. So almost business as usual.

Fourth may be a surprise with our stats saying Aston Villa’s Villa-ness is better than Chelsea’s mega spend. Maybe our stats aren’t fooled by many seasons of Chelsea overspend and under-deliver. Still fourth and fifth should be good enough for Europe and our season ratings were almost identical for these two sides.

Our stats say wins for Brighton who will make European football, and Newcastle hold onto a top six position, so a win for those clubs.

Winners list includes Crystal Palace who break out of the midfield into the top ten.

Same for Leeds, who our stats say are going to be the first promoted club to stay up in three seasons.

LOSERS

Promoted sides have not gone very well in the past few Premier League season, and there’s little to suggest that they will survive again this season. Sunderland in particular had a very low rating for this season, and maybe it has something to do with red and white striped kits. After Southampton and Sheffield United have been relegated in consecutive seasons.

Our stats say Burnley will continue their yo-yoing between the top two tiers, which we guess is better than doing it once and disappearing.

But as alluded to in the winners column, not all promoted teams will be relegated this season. Instead of Leeds our stats say West Ham are going down. That seems harsh, but you just never know with West Ham and Graham Potter in no particular order. If Jarrod Bowen gets injured it could be trouble.

Talking of trouble, Premier League mainstays Brentford and Bournemouth flirt with trouble this season according to our stats, finishing fourth and fifth last. Losing key players and in one case a key manager is trouble.

Rounding out the losers list is Spurs and Manchester United, who despite changing managers and players in various cases, can’t turn around their woeful Premier League campaigns that quickly.

NRL | 2025 NRL Round 24 Ratings and Late Mail

2025 nrl grand final ratings featured

Been too distracted by an NRL trainer cutting you off at the supermarket? Do you need some last-minute NRL tipping advice? Or simply want something else to blame when the tips go wrong? Either way, saddle up for The Gurgler’s NRL Round 24 Ratings and Late Mail.

In a new additional to our stable of NRL stats and tipping products, we have used all the stats we have, smashed them against each other like atoms, and come up with a H2H rating.

It includes this year’s form with a bias because it is this year, but we don’t forget historic stats of the H2H against this week’s opponents, and the ground and day the teams are playing on.

We’ve also applied an adjustment for each team’s increase or decrease in win % over the Origin period.

Then slice up the scores out of 100% between the two sides. The bigger the percentage, the more likely to win.

2025 NRL Round 24 Ratings

Here are the H2H ratings and winners for the first of the Origin affected rounds.

Our ratings picked just 5/8 last weekend, but improvement coming this week.

2025 NRL Round 24 Ratings H2H Summary 1

2025 NRL Round 24 Late Mail

THU – PENRITH v MELBOURNE (CommBank)

What a battle looms to open Round 24. Two of the most in-form teams in the competition in 2025, and since 2020 if we’re honest. Penrith shooting for ten in a row, but Melbourne are the kings of Thursday, and Grand Finals aside have the slight upper hand in recent matches. Melbourne have won three of the last four games v Penrith and

Melbourne have won the last three games on a Thursday v Penrith. Two of those games were in Penrith. As for Thursday, Penrith are W1 L3 on a Thursday this season. But have won their only Thursday game at CommBank Stadium. Melbourne have won all four Thursday games this season, and Melbourne have won 14 of their last 15 Thursday games, and Melbourne have won six in a row on a Thursday away to a Sydney team.

Melbourne are a little more lighter on players than the Panthers, with Ryan Papenhuyzen out this week to go with Jahrome Hughes and Jack Howarth out for a while. Of course the Storm production line will ensure that everyone is covered. Isaah Yeo remains out for Penrith, but they have everyone else, and Nathan Cleary. Who will probably be the difference.

FRI – WARRIORS v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

There’s so little going the Dragons’ way heading into this game, and you get the feeling they like it that way. Very few gave them a chance against the Sharks last weekend, and it was the only game our H2H Ratings didn’t tip correctly. But the stats this week are just as dire – Warriors are good…..Warriors have won three straight v Dragons at Mt Smart Stadium. Warriors have won all four home games at Mt Smart Stadium v Dragons on a Friday. Warriors are W7 L2 v Sydney teams this season. And Dragons are not so good……Dragons have the worst away record this season with W2 L8. They have also lost five in a row away. Dragons have lost eight in a row on a Friday away from home with a last win in 2021 v Warriors at Central Coast Stadium.

On the teams front Te Maire Martin drops out for Tanah Boyd and Wayde Egan is a key in, but Kurt Capewell is a key out. It’s hard to tell if that’s like for like in quality. The Dragons main change is Mat Feagai in and Moses Suli out. Which seems a fair enough swap. But is it enough to overcome those awful stats. Probably not.

FRI – ROOSTERS v BULLDOGS

What a game we have for Friday night. A real test for the Bulldogs after the Roosters form last week. But that’s kind of the problem with the Roosters. Their form is not quite permanent in 2025. The Roosters have not won more than two games in a row this season. They enter this game on two consecutive wins, so we’ll see if we know nothing after this weekend. The Roosters do have a good record over the Bulldogs, they have won five home games in a row v Bulldogs, although the last two wins were at Central Coast Stadium. And the Roosters have won six of the last seven games at Allianz v Bulldogs on a Friday night. The Roosters Friday night form is great too, as they have won 10 of their last 11 games at Allianz Stadium on a Friday and it’s eight in a row at Allianz Stadium v Sydney teams on a Friday. Form against Sydney teams evens the ledger a little as the Roosters have a 50% win rate v Sydney teams this season but the Bulldogs have an 82% win rate. That includes two from two v Sydney teams on a Friday, which includes beating the Roosters.

Nothing much on the teams front as Egan Butcher is in for Siua Wong for the Roosters and Connor Tracey could be a sneaky late inclusion as he is named in the reserves list.

SAT – CRONULLA v GOLD COAST

Cronulla have all the form heading into this game against the Titans, but they also did last weekend against the Dragons and that didn’t quite work out. So, Cronulla have won 10 of their past 11 games v Gold Coast and it’s five in a row on a Saturday. Plus Cronulla have won five of their last six v Qld sides. Gold Coast aren’t very good away or against Sydney clubs either, as they are W1 L4 away to Sydney teams this season and the Gold Coast have won only four of their last 25 away games v Sydney teams. But the Sharks looked good on paper last weekend, and the Titans are trying to avoid the spoon.

In the Titans favour is the team lists with the Sharks missing the powerful duo of Jesse Ramien and Briton Nikora, and they welcome back Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, which is a huge plus. Plus Big Mo also returns for added oomph. But is it enough to overcome the stats?

SAT – BRONCOS v DOLPHINS

As if the Battle of Brisbane needed any more juice, each side can not only get Brisbane bragging rights, but they can spoil the other team’s finals hope in the process, which would be double bragging rights. Much like the home ground, the stats domination is shared heading into this weekend. The Dolphins have won the only game v Brisbane on a Saturday at Suncorp Stadium. But the Broncos have won their last three at Suncorp Stadium on a Saturday, their last loss being the one last season v Dolphins. Broncos have won all four games v Qld opposition this season, three of those games being at Suncorp Stadium, but the Dolphins have won five in a row v Qld sides on a Saturday. Amazingly, the Dolphins have the same win rate on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday as it stands at 38%. Their 80% win rate on a Thursday is saving them. The Dolphins are yet to record a consecutive result in 2025 on a Saturday. Which is about the only positive you can take out of last Saturday pantsing by the Roosters.

So the big team news coming into this game for once isn’t the Dolphins with all the injuries, is the Broncos who lost Ezra Mam, Adam Reynolds and Selwyn Cobbo. The first two going down with hamstrings in one Storm line break. Their replacements are certainly capable – Billy Walters and Ben Hunt, and given the Broncos seemed to have a million hookers on their books they have Corey Paix and Tyson Smoothy filling in elsewhere. But will it spoil their flow, and will new halves gel with Reece Walsh or get in the way. Or vice versa. Dolphins may have been injury free, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t down a player this week. Francis Molo is out suspended, which given how fired up he was last weekend is no surprise. He’s replaced by Kenny Bromwich, who will find it hard to match the intensity. But he has loads of experience. The Dolphins need it.

SAT – SOUTH SYDNEY v PARRAMATTA

After taking one hand off the wooden spoon by beating the Gold Coast last weekend, the Rabbitohs can push another team below them this weekend as they meet Parramatta, a team they have a great recent record against. But that was when they fitter players. Souths have won eight of their last nine v Parramatta, plus it’s four in a row at the Olympic Stadium and six in a row on a Saturday. The teams are equally awful on Saturdays – Souths have lost their last six Saturday games. Parramatta have lost their last six away games on a Saturday. Syndey form goes to Souths as Parramatta are W1 L5 away to Sydney teams this season and Souths are W2 L2 at home to Sydney teams.

The biggest team news is Cody Walker being named in the reserves, Souths players and fans, will be excited for his potential return, as will Alex Johnston who is so close to that try scoring record. Winning means the Eels don’t need to make changes. How nice for them.

SUN – WESTS TIGERS v MANLY (Allianz Stadium)

On paper this looks a Manly win, they have the H2H form – Manly have won eight of the last nine games v Wests Tigers and Manly have won the last three Sunday games too. But this game has been moved to Allianz Stadium where the Tigers are usually terrible – their upset over the Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium earlier in 2025 ended a run of 11 straight defeats there – but then again most of those games were against the Roosters. In good news the Wests Tigers have won the only two games v Manly at the Sydney Football Stadium and they have won their last two Sunday games.

Team news highlights are Lehi Hopoate returning, but Tom Trbojevic keeping his place at fullback, which makes sense. But the game is down one Trbojevic as Jake is out with concussion. The Tigers have Starford To’a return but Alex Seyfarth out.

SUN – NORTH QUEENSLAND v NEWCASTLE

Newcastle don’t seem to like Townsville or Queensland or North Queensland, which we’re sure isn’t personal, just stats. North Queensland have won four in a row v Newcastle, with all four games in Townsville. North Queensland have also won all six games v Newcastle at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, plus three more before that at the previous ground. Plus Newcastle have won just two of their last 24 games away to Qld sides in Qld. And North Queensland have won four in a row at home on a Sunday v all opposition.

Newcastle sees Connor Votano debut at fullback which moves Dane Gagai back to the centres, where he has been consistently great for the Knights. The Cowboys see Jordan McLean in while Coen Hess is out for a while suspended.

NRL 2026 Season Predictions

Angrier than a room full of Fox League writers, more of an obstruction than an NRL trainer, fluent in 10 different languages for giving opposition fans the finger and ducking for cover like a Melbourne Storm Assistant Coach, it’s time for the weekly Rugby League rant of The Gurgler’s NRL Donkey, who provides his NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 24 Expert Tips as well as offers an alternative, slightly unhinged view full of sass of the world of rugby league and beyond for another week.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 24 Weekly Rant

Another week, another trainer controversy. No one should be talking about trainers. They are like referees, ball boys/girls, Mascots, Marketing Department people, and Security Guards. We should not have to be talking about them after a round of rugby league. There have been a few occurrences from within that extended group of rugby league associates this season when we’re talking about them it isn’t for a good reason. Or you can’t talk about them because it’s in front of the courts. So it’s best not to talk about any of them. Like trainers.

Of course Penrith fans who have taken the trainer incident personally have justification to point out that Penrith were probably harshly treated, and of course we await the NRL to stuff up the punishment on this week’s events to ensure that the controversy rages on in NRL 360 for another week. Which to be honest is better than their half an hour lotion applying session on Lachlan Galvin.

But why should we be talking about trainers, at all. In fact, why are they on the field. I’d like to blame Allan Langer at this point who perfected the art of being on the field most of the time. But maybe because it was the likeable larrikin Alfie that people didn’t mind as much. Or maybe it’s much easier to hate on someone who you don’t know and will never meet. Which is essentially the premise of most social media and especially Twitter, formerly known as X.

Simply put, they aren’t Alfie, and can’t help themselves, so throw them all off the field. All of them. Every club. Every trainer. Get off, and stay off.

Unless there’s player welfare at play because of the heat, then the players only need water when a try is scored. Although if you think about it, that does reward a team that is getting flogged as much as one winning. But rugby league tries to be a fair game, so that’s nice.

You don’t see trainers in English or European football while the game is on. They are restricted to applying special water based products to ensure the most severely injured players make rapid recoveries upon the opposition receiving a yellow card. It’s such a miracle cure I don’t understand why I haven’t seen bottle after bottle of Magic Spray on one of those home shopping networks or being flogged on those awful, awful Morning shows which should be an inspiration to anyone to your unemployment status.

You don’t see trainers at Wimbledon on court supplying water and telling players mid serve to go long. They of course do that with much more subtlety from up in the grandstand with signals, stares and looks to let the player know. That and the threat of severe beatings or kidnapping of special pets for any player who doesn’t win and/or play well. But at least you can ignore the Tennis trainers because they are not on the court, where they don’t belong. Unlike Rugby League.

You certainly don’t see trainers in the middle of Formula 1. Although that would be very funny. An engineer hanging on for dear life as Max Verstappen swings around the 130R corner at Suzuka, Japan at around 300kph. Giving instructions on how to brake for the chicane as he sails over the front of the car into a barrel roll, cartwheel, double backflip and landing with a handstand in an Olympic standard move at over 200 kph. The engineer flying off the car would still be faster than Yuki Tsunoda.

And Lance Stroll.

You also don’t see trainers in the Tour de France. Well not on bikes anyway. They are too smart to be on a bike and drive around in cars to supply water and instructions. But don’t give that idea to the NRL as the trainers are already getting in the way by running. So don’t give them a car. And although it could be good for potential sponsors, and even funnier if they were using a quad bike, doing jumps for the crowds amusement while players are waiting for Bunker decisions. As good as that sounds, they still shouldn’t be on the field in any form. Car, bike (BMX or Penny Farthing), Hot Air Balloon, Mission Impossible style hanging from a wire from the roof (which would be very funny), nor as a pantomime horse or parade float.

Back to the Tour de France, I would like to see the Tandem bike version.

In fact I can’t think of one sport where someone says to themselves before the game “Oh boy, I’m really looking forward to seeing the trainers on the field for 78 minutes.”

Or “I hope those players don’t run out of water after two minutes of a might time game in winter.”

Or “What a great line up of touch judges we have tonight”.

Or “Do I get change from $20 for a Pie and a Beer?”

No one needs to ask, or wants answers from those questions. So let’s agree now to end all trainer involvement and have them where they belong. On the sidelines with mascots, ballboys and ballgirls, Buck the Broncos horse, ABC Touchline reporters, those boxes that shoot flames into the air when a team scores and that nearly ran out of gas on Saturday night’s Dolphins v Roosters game, and touch judges.

Talking of not wanting or needing, you still get this week’s expert tips for Round 24.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 24 Expert Tips

THU – PENRITH v MELBOURNE (CommBank)

Through sheer luck or good management the NRL kicks off with a great game, and battle between two of the best teams of the modern era. One of course can only hope Melbourne play badly enough in patches for the Bellmay Box cam to do its thing.

Melbourne by 2

FRI – WARRIORS v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

Just when you think you can keep piling on the scorn to Flanno because his Dragons are losing they turn around an awful record against the Sharks and win. For the record I will still continue to pile scorn on Flanno and they will lose this weekend, as rugby league needs the Warriors in the finals more than the Dragons.

Warriors by 6

FRI – ROOSTERS v BULLDOGS

Channel Nein have certainly got their first two games right this weekend, with another ripper. It’s top hard to find something smart-arsed to say about this game, so being lazy I won’t.

Bulldogs by 4

SAT – CRONULLA v GOLD COAST

If a tree fell on the Sharks finals hopes would anyone hear it or care? I want to tip the Gold Coast, but they can’t beat busted-arse Souths.

Cronulla by 16

SAT – BRONCOS v DOLPHINS

The great clashes come thick and fast this weekend, and there’s so much to play for. Local bragging rights, keeping top eight hopes alive while ruinkin the other team’s chances. The Broncos are getting a taste of the Dolphins 2025 season with four key stars out, with Xavier Willison the biggest loss. Just another seven to eight to go to match the Dolphins injury list. So hard to pick with one eye open.

Dolphins by 8

SAT – SOUTH SYDNEY v PARRAMATTA

A week after a potential spoon bowl, this is a clash where the loser could be drawn back into a spoon bowl battle. Although that will require the Gold Coast to win another game. Which they probably won’t.

South Sydney by 2

SUN – WESTS TIGERS v MANLY (Allianz Stadium)

I do wonder why the Wests Tigers, who already have two home grounds are playing this game at another ground. But not enough to care and find out why exactly. I do care that the Tigers help the Dolphins with a win.

Wests Tigers by 4

SUN – NORTH QUEENSLAND v NEWCASTLE

It’s not just because this is the last game of the round that I can’t be bothered writing much for this game. It’s also because the game will probably be crap. That’s probably a bit unfair on both sides.

North Queensland by 12
