2026 Japanese F1 Grand Prix Result Race Summary

Didn’t see the race live? Don’t have time to watch the whole race? Here’s where we capture the laps where stuff happened. We write these live as we go, sort of like a minute by minute for the football, but marginally more interesting.

Setting the scene – QUALIFYING

Kimi Antonelli doubles down on the Chinese Grand Prix with another pole position and did it by three tenths of a second to his team mate George Russell who was constantly on the radio/moaning about the feel of his car. Oscar Piastri took third and has looked fast for most of the weekend even ended fastest in P2. The big surprise in Qualifying was Max Verstappen missing Q3 (ended up 11th), knocked out late by Arvid Lindblad, which made Verstappen more grumpy about 2026 cars, and maybe more grumpy against journalists. Some good performances by Pierre Gasly and Gabriel Bortoleto to make Q3, Audi probably should have had both cars in Q3 as they look the 5th fastest car for sure, and arguably faster than Red Bull this weekend.

GRID AFTER Q3  – ANT RUS PIA LEC NOR HAM GAS HAD BOR LIN

Setting the scene – RACEDAY

After the first two races of 2026 have seen more action than last year’s Japanese Grand Prix before the light have gone out, so it was very low key to see all the 22 drivers make it to the starting line. With the pace of the Mercedes and the tight but fast nature of the Suzuka track, it will probably be reasonably dull. So we will be relying on some start line chaos for interest today. That and Max Verstappen starting 11th and angry. In exciting news for Australian F1 fans, Oscar Piastri made it to the grid.

Lap 1 – Kimi Antonelli drops it off the line and falls back a bunch of place, as Oscar Piastri burns them around the outside. Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris make good starts too and muscle past George Russell. Norris’ was quite a good move around the outside of turn two. Antonelli ended up 6th on the first lap but passes Lewis Hamilton into Turn One at the beginning of the second lap. Piastri is a full second in front by the end of the lap, not bad for his first lap of the season. Further back, no clashes or crashes as all 22 cars start and survive the first lap.

ORDER – PIA LEC NOR RUS HAM ANT GAS HAD LIN VER

Lap 2 – Max Verstappen passes Hadjar for 9th around the second part of the lap but they almost touch at the final chicane.

Lap 3 – George Russell, possibly smelling his fast-catching team mate, gets past Lando Norris for third. Looks like it won’t take long for Antonelli to do the same. Piastri will be hoping that Leclerc can keep the Mercedes’ behind him for a while. Nope, not happening, George Russell flies past on lap 4.

ORDER – PIA RUS LEC NOR ANT HAM GAS LIN VER OCO

Lap 5 – George Russell isn’t catching Piastri as quick as those hoping for an exciting had feared, meaning at least Russell will have to work hard for it. Oscar has been fast all weekend. Max Verstappen gets past Lindblad for 8th.

Lap 7 – Backmarker check – the last four cars in order from 19th are Prez, Alonso, Stroll and Bottas. Perez being 3.5 second behind 18th and Alonso 4.5 behind Perez. Bottas is the only car on the hard tyres in the race.

Lap 8 – George Russell is within oil sniffing distance of Oscar Piastri now by the end of the pit straight, and given the pace advantage in general will probably swat him away next time around. Sadly for McLaren fans Mercedes are usually professional with strategy, unlike other front runners, so once Russell gets in front he will stay in front.

Lap 9 – Wrong. George Russell nails Oscar Piastri into the chicane on the previous lap, but Piastri has plenty of speed down the pit straight and he re-takes him into turn one of lap 9. Russell’ pace advantage through the 130R corner before the chicane was awesome, but not enough down the next straight. New technology eh? At the same time, the battle for third between Leclerc, Norris and Antonelli has got very interesting, and there’s nothing in it. Talking of nothing, Max Verstappen may be up to 8th, but not really keeping pace with the Alpine of Pierre Gasly. Red Bull really are struggling for pace. Even more disappointing are Audi, who looked genuine fifth fastest this weekend, if not better. They are currently 14th (Bortoleto) and 17th (Hulk).

ORDER – PIA RUS LEC NOR ANT HAM GAS VER OCO LIN

Lap 11 – Kimi Antonelli sneaks past Lando Norris into the final chicane and keeps 4th place down the pit straight. Further ahead Oscar Piastri is doing a great job keeping George Russell behind, keeping a 0.6-1.0 second buffer where it matters before Russell closes up at the end of the lap.

Lap 15 – Kimi Antonelli is hassling Charles Leclerc for third but the Ferrari is hanging on, just. Further forward Oscar Piastri has the lead out to over one second to Russell, so has weathered the storm to a degree. Antonelli gets past into the final chicane on lap 15, but like his team mate earlier on Piastri, is re-passed by Leclerc down the pit straight heading into lap 16.

Lap 16 – Lando Norris, potentially bored about being the meat in a front runner sandwich, is the first to pit for new tyres. He’s on hard tyres, so not pitting again and rejoins 9th. Charles Leclerc pits a lap later hoping to head off Lando Norris who has just passed Esteban Ocon. Leclerc ends up comfortably ahead of Norris, for now.

Lap 18 – Oscar Piastri has stretched the lead to 1.7 seconds as he pits at the end of the lap. Clean stop and comes out 6th. The Mercedes continue on, and we’ll see what their pace is in clean air, and if there’s a dump of sand on the track somewhere.

Lap 20 – Kimi Antonelli is flying behind George Russell in third, and if that continues and depending on strategy, the young Italian may surprise his senior team mate later in the race. Further behind Oscar Piastri eventually gets past Max Verstappen (yet to pit) for 5th. Lando Norris sets fastest lap as he chases Charles Leclerc.

Lap 22 – George Russell pits for new tyres, and he rejoins behind Oscar Piastri but ahead of Max Verstappen. So that move by Piastri on Verstappen last lap was critical. As was the timing of the pit stop for Russell as…..Oliver Bearman is into the barriers…..

SAFETY CAR DEPLOYED

This could play into the hands of the yet-to-pit Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton, who get a pit stop under the Safety Car. And even Pierre Gasly. It works for Antonelli who gets in front of Piastri for the race lead. Less well for Hamilton who ends up fourth behind George Russell.

Footage of Oliver Bearman limping is not great. It’s a big crash too. He loses it on the gras of the outside of the approach of Spoon curve and is out of control as he cuts across the fast-ish corner and heavily into the barriers. As bad as the impact was, it could have been so much worse as he could have, and almost did, collect Franco Colapinto on the way through out of control. Replays show the crash was in the process of attempting to overtake Colapinto. One wonders if it was a technology related or ambition related exit.

ORDER – ANT PIA RUS HAM LEC NOR GAS VER LAW BOR

SAFETY CAR EXITS

Lap 27 – Kimi Antonelli gets the restart just right. And to make George Russell even less happy, Lewis Hamilton steals third down the pit straight on the restart. By the end of the lap, Antonelli is over a second to the good of Piastri, who is being seriously hounded by Hamilton. This battling should be giving Antonelli plenty of time to extend his lead.

ORDER – ANT PIA HAM RUS LEC NOR GAS VER LAW BOR

Lap 31 – A few laps post-restart and Kimi Antonelli is miles in front – relatively speaking for this race – 2.3 seconds and cruising in front. Oscar Piastri has given himself a one second cushion to Lewis Hamilton which is good news for the McLaren driver. George Russell and Charles Leclerc are hanging on in that group, but Lando Norris seems to be slipping a little further off the pace.

Lap 35 – Looks like this race will need another prang and Safety Car to be interesting. At least Esteban Ocon got past Bortoleto for 10th since we last typed. Verstappen still can’t get past Gasly. No one is getting past Antonelli with his 4.7 second lead.

ORDER – ANT PIA HAM RUS LEC NOR GAS VER LAW OCO

Lap 37 – Charles Leclerc nips past George Russell towards the end of the lap, which looked like technical gremlins may have been involved. Whatever the cause, Russell loses 4th place to the Ferrari.

Lap 39 – Heading into the final part of the race, and reliability aside Kimi Antonelli should cruise home. He’s over seven seconds in front. Oscar Piastri has edged enough in front of the now squabbling Ferraris and a lurking George Russell. Leclerc looks faster, so this will be worth watching until the end of the race. Perhaps irreversible team troubles await? Lewis Hamilton may have power issues, but he is keeping Leclerc behind him for now, semi-politely.

Lap 42 – Ooooh, the Ferraris almost touch going into the final chicane, so close. And even closer and at faster pace into turn one of the next lap as Charles Leclerc sweeps past and takes third place.

Lap 43 – George Russell passes Lewis Hamilton through the first turns as he sets about chasing the final podium currently held by Leclerc. Lando Norris is now catching Lewis Hamilton, so a sad few laps for Hamilton.

Lap 45 – Lewis Hamilton locks up and cuts the final chicane, he will struggle to keep Norris behind.

Lap 47 – Front runner update – Kimi Antonelli is a whopping 13 seconds plus in front of Oscar Piastri. The McLaren has a semi-comfortable 1.7 second gap to Leclerc and Russell battling for third. Further behind Lando Norris steals 5th place from Lewis Hamilton, but the Ferrari takes it back down the pit straight.

Lap 50 – George Russell really on Charles Leclerc’s tail now with a few laps to go. Is there enough time, track and battery to get by and take the last podium spot? Yes, yes and yes. Russell passes Leclerc into the chicane, only for Leclerc to do an even better pass around the outside of turn one. The same sequence is replicated between Hamilton and Norris behind.

Lap 51 – Lando Norris passes and keeps fifth place on Lewis Hamilton this time.

Lap 52 – Charles Leclerc gets the elbows out and keep George Russell behind him heading into the final lap.

FINAL LAP – The rest of the field need binoculars or satellite to see Kimi Antonelli cross the line in first place, to win a second race in a row, and as often mentioned in the TV coverage, become the youngest ever leader of a World Championship. Oscar Piastri gets a great reward for a weekend of pace with second place, slightly dudded by the Safety Car, but given the eventual winning margin of Antonelli, probably would have been the same result without the Safety Car. Charles Leclerc hangs on for third place.

FINAL ORDER (Across the line) – ANT PIA LEC RUS NOR HAM GAS VER LAW OCO

Here we go through the field and highlight the very best (Great) of the race, and the plodders, the over-ambitious, the out of luck, and simply hopeless (Grape).

These points get added to our Driver of the Season scores. 5 points for a great nomination, and -5 for the worst or grapest driver in the pack. Then it is +2 /-2 for honourable or dishonourable mentions.

THE GREAT-EST – KIMI ANTONELLI

Despite another fluffed start, he took pole with ease and is looking ever-more fast and confident. The way he controlled the restart of the race and cruised in front is a scary warning for the season to not be under-estimated.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

OSCAR PIASTRI – Fast all weekend, took surprising lead of the Japanese Grand Prix with a sensational start, and did well under pressure from George Russell for a long time.

CHARLES LECLERC – His pass on Hamilton for third worth an honourable mention. As was his podium finish.

LEWIS HAMILTON – Got a bit lucky with the timing of the Safety Car but put it to full use for most of the race. Late race demotions dimmed a good weekend.

PIERRE GASLY – Another solid weekend from Gasly in a car that was the worst by the end of last season. Even Max Verstappen radioed in during the race to compliment the Alpine.

ESTEBAN OCON – Took advantage of his team mate Oliver Bearman dropping out of Q1 to outqualify and sit in the points from early on, and later on.

THE GRAPE-EST – OLIVER BEARMAN

Looked fast until qualifying where he surprisingly exited Q1. Then drove around the lower midfield before crashing heavily and hurting himself and the race with a Safety Car.

DISHONOURABLE MENTIONS

ASTON MARTIN – Still amazing how a team that spent so much money can still be so hopeless. At least Cadillac have an excuse for being slow.

WILLIAMS – Lucky to have Aston Martin and Cadillac in the field.

WILLIAMS – Looked a midfield car in Japan.

NICO HULKENBERG – We’re not angry, just disappointed. Thought this could be a big Hulk weekend, but it ended up an almost invisible one.

GEORGE RUSSELL – Moaning about his luck with the Safety Car. He’s been pretty lucky to be in a rocket Mercedes as the rules were changed in F1 to suit them…..

Was it a good race, loads of action, a tense ending, a surprise result or DNF, or just a big, fat, snooze-fest?

We rate the big race itself, so we know which races to go back and watch in the off season or one to simply remember the winner for the post season quiz nights.

PRE RACE ACTION (FP, QUAL, SPRINT, OFF TRACK etc) – 1 / 5

No sprint race, Mercedes 1-2 qualifying, no major incidents, Aston Martin still slow. Only point of interest on track before the race was Max Verstappen not making Q3 on pace it appears. Off track, the growing number of drivers complaining about how bad the 2026 cars are.

ON TRACK ACTION (RACE) – 6 / 10

Actually better than expected with battles for all the positions including the lead. Maybe the new MarioKart regulations work ok.

ANY SURPRISES? – 3 / 5

Oscar Piastri’s start and blowing the Mercedes way early was a surprise over the season so far, given he hasn’t made it to the grid yet. Kimi Antonelli having the measure over Goerge Russell also raises the eyebrows.

SEASON IMPORTANCE – 2 / 5

Plenty of races left for Mercedes to decide the Championship order. Perhaps a faster McLaren throwing spanners into the Championship works?

ENDING – 3 / 5

Lewis Hamilton’s demise brought about some nice overtaking. George Russell’s pursuit of Charles Leclerc’s third was also entertaining.

OVERALL RATING – 15 / 30

Not a bad Japanese Grand Prix, with the new regulations probably helping the action. The Safety Car defining the winner as Kimi Antonelli was fast enough and in the right place at the right time. But as fast as Suzuka is, it’s a dull circuit for action. As is a Mercedes in clean air.

All images above were mainly created using the technology of Gemini with some help from Grok and the slightly warped imagination of The Gurgler writing staff, who are frequently locked in a room and told not to come out until they have come up with at least 50 barely interesting stats on a specific sport, or something that makes the Telegram group give Hardy chuckles. G, they are easy to please though. But even if you don’t like the way Twitter, also known as X, is going, you should get into their AI app Grok, which needs a Twitter / X account, and let your imagination run wild. Maybe you could come up with some GreK Norman adventures of your very own to share with family and friend.

WOODEN SPOONERS – The Controversial Social Media Account

0

A new NRL social media account is causing a stir.

Launched at the start of the year, The NRL Sledger has Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/Twitter pages and a companion 30-minute YouTube review show every Monday.

While the creator wishes to remain anonymous, they revealed to Everyday News that they don’t actually watch rugby league.

“Mate, I have a lot of deep-seated biases about certain teams, why would I want to ruin that by watching the games and paying attention to what’s going on?”

Instead, Sledger scrolls through the scores on the NRL app, does a light sweep of the stats, and forms an opinion from that.

“It’s more fun going in blind. I can say whatever the hell I want and watch all the sooks lose their minds in the comments because I made fun of their team! I love arguing with idiots.”

Sledger‘s favourite targets are Canberra (“perpetual chokers and Ricky is always sooking about something!), the Gold Coast (“a literal waste of time”), St George Illawarra (“Shane Flanagan is a protected species and you’re not allowed to say anything bad about Kyle”), the Wests Tigers (“an absolute joke and more drama than an American soap opera”), and Newcastle (“They’ve been s**t ever since Joey retired and Ponga is a fraud and is made of glass!”).

In breaking news, Sledger can reveal they’ve been offered a five-minute weekly segment on NRL360, though they plan to use an animated ‘sledger’ character to protect their identity.

F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST? 9 / 10 – It’s fast and looks fast, especially through the first corner and esses and the accurately named 130R corner. The speed makes up for the narrowness and lack of action as below.

ACTION? 3 / 10 – It’s a track where overtaking is usually at a premium, and by that we mean there’s usually bugger all unless someone has a huge lunge at the chicane that pays off every third attempt. The challenging nature of the track means incompetency will be punished, so a few wild moments await. Not all of them Lance Stroll’s as the Aston Martin might not be fast enough or last long enough to make a mistake.

BIG HISTORY? – 8 / 10 – Suzuka has been active since 1987 except for Covid and has been the scene of some of F1’s biggest moments, like Senna and Prost denying Championships on each other in consecutive years. Shame it’s on so early in the season, but better than not at all.

INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 3 /10 – The Weather Channel says not much chance of rain, but it could be on the colder side, but nothing to get too excited about yet.

RACE POTENTIAL RATING 58% – It’s a great track that fans and drivers love to watch the cars go around. Just sometimes the races can be dull if not wet.

Been too distracted by mega sulks from dropped NRL players? Been too crowded from a pitch invasion to read the form guide? Do you need some last-minute NRL tipping advice? Or simply want something else to blame when the tips go wrong? Either way, The Gurgler’s 2026 NRL Round 3 Ratings and Late Mail is here to deliver a little help.

In addition to our huge stable of NRL stats and tipping gear, we have used all the stats we have, smashed them against each other like atoms, and come up with a H2H rating as dangerous to the outside world as Chernobyl.

We include lots of things, and add to it as the season progresses, come up with a magic number for each team, then slice up the scores out of 100% between the two sides. The bigger the percentage, the more likely to win.

And always, Win Early, Win Often.

SAT 5:30pm – PENRITH v PARRAMATTA @ CommBank Stadium

Penrith to win 1-12 @ $3.25

Penrith are conceding at less than four points a game so far in 2026. Penrith have won their last four games v Parramatta, the last three were at CommBank Stadium. Four of the seven games between these sides at CommBank have seen a margin of eight points or less. So in no particular order, going for a smallish Penrith win.

SAT 7:30pm – NORTH QUEENSLAND v MELBOURNE

Pick your own line – Cowboys +12.5 @ $1.91

The last four games for the Cowboys v Melbourne in Townsville have seen a six point loss, and three straight wins before that. Prior to that they lost by 4, 6 and 1. So it could be closer than folk think. Cowboys start then.

SUN 4pm – CANBERRA v CRONULLA

Cronulla to win 13+ @ $4.25

Cronulla have won four of the last five v Canberra, and all wins were over 14 points or more. Cronulla have won their last three games v Canberra on a Sunday.

SUN 6:15pm – GOLD COAST v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

No best bet.

The worst away team in the NRL since Covid in 2020 – St George Illawarra. Gold Coast are the worst team on a Sunday recently.

NRL 2026 Season Predictions

In worse condition than a Canberra Stadium, ducking for cover like a Melbourne Storm Assistant Coach, trying his best to not lash out at kids at NRL games while wondering what he’s done wrong not to be a current NRL mascot, sitting on the extended bench and not expecting to play for the good of the team, and getting the full support of the board, it’s time for the weekly Rugby League rant from The Gurgler’s NRL Donkey. The NRL Donkey provides his NRL Donkey’s 2026 NRL Round 3 Expert Tips as well as offers an alternative, slightly unhinged view full of sass of the world of rugby league and beyond for another week.

The NRL Donkey’s 2026 NRL Round 4 Weekly Opinion

With Petrol prices for a full tank of fuel approaching the cost of a pie and chips with a bottle of Coke at Suncorp Stadium, and the worries of fuel supplies getting lower than fans patience with Six Agains, and even talk of fuel rationing, which for Gold Coast based rugby league should be ok because their NRL teams has been rationing wins for the last decade or so, it’s time to ask what Rugby League can do for this Oil/Fuel crisis.

Of course with the NRL having recently played in the US in Las Vegas to the amazement of the very few US citizens that were there, I’m sure it got the attention of the US President via social media, and he has secretly asked the Australian Prime Minister “Albo” to send as many current and former rugby league players to the Middle East to help ships get through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Albo” being a Rabbitohs fan had no problems organising up 50 players from the Roosters and Manly to act as human shields on ships carting oil through the channel of danger, but was overruled by the Player’s Union, Rooster’s Nick Politis, finance guru Tom Piotrowski was also asked and advised it wasn’t a good idea, and Manly kind-of rejected the idea. They said no to a bunch of players but did offer up Anthony Seibold. To which “Albo” politely declined leaving Manly to come up with another idea to get rid of their current coach.

Ray Stone from the Dolphins was mentioned, and all were in agreeance that if only Ray Stone was sent to the Middle East that the war would stop immediately. A steely glare from the Dolphins forward would have more firepower than a dozen Iranian missiles, and one tackle from Ray Stone would take out the entire Iran nuclear program. It was rumoured that Ray Stone hated wars nearly as much as scoring tries, but his commitment to the Dolphins is absolute. Even if it means the entire world is blown up by one side or the other and the human race comes to an end, Ray won’t renege on his Dolphins contact nor dampen his commitment to his team and himself. Ray is also rumoured to be taking over from the sadly recently deceased Chuck Norris as the World’s Toughest Person Meme Guy. We are sure Chuck would have given him his blessing if he knew who Ray Stone was.

But since the Roosters and Manly were too selfish to send anyone other than a head coach they want to sack anyway, and the world is too scared to ask Ray Stone, how else can rugby league solve this crisis, or at least minimise the temporary pain.

The answer is Magic Rounds. Every week.

Instead of flying around Australia for multiple games, rugby league teams would converge in the one city for a two week burst, then move on to the next city in more sustainable options than flying, given flight fuel could be dry in 30 days or so some media panicking will tell you. Maybe they’re right, if they are my two huge adult sized bathtubs, one laundry tub, and the broken hot water tank all filled with Unleaded 91 is looking real good. And I only drove off once from the servo without paying.

Why two weeks you say? Or did you not get that far thinking what a stupid idea, and why am I reading an angry donkey talking about oil crisis and Anthony Seibold when all I want is expert rugby league tips? Good point. First reply is Up Yours. Second is that two weeks in the one city, as opposed to the current one for regular Magic Rounds means one less week of travelling.

Of course the best location to start this off is in Sydney. Which will suit a lot of teams that are based there, except for Manly if the ground/s in question are south of Sydney Harbour. One week could be the Olympic Stadium the next Sydney Football Stadium. Or one week is using old suburban grounds only. Like Belmore, whatever Kogarah is called these days, whatever Shark Park is called these days, Henson Park, Redfern Oval, North Sydney Oval (for Manly fans), Leichhardt Oval and Lidcome too.

This means the interstate teams will have to bus it in, or how about getting the XPT from Brisbane to Sydney? Harder for the Cowboys from Townsville, as that’s a long train/bus trip. But they can sack/rehire Todd Payten on one of the trips. Plus for the Queensland teams they can get their back on all the other teams when it is their turn to host the Fuel Crisis Magic Rounds later in the season.

The elephant in the room, which I’m not sure is being unkind to the Warriors, as they are much more fearsome than elephants, but I guess rugby league fans love the Wahs, and people like elephants, so maybe they are an elephant in some room somewhere. Just not here. But the Warriors sort-of have to fly to Australia to get here, and they could spend six months in a leaky boat, but given they are leading the competition and looking good, why would they want to miss out.

But we have to remember the sacrifice they made for Covid era league. So as a reward, the entire competition will move to Auckland for four weeks, for four huge Magic Rounds including a State of Origin game while they’re all there, just a year ahead of schedule. Given Auckland will have never seen so much rugby league, they probably won’t mind as much that it will be Origin period NRL where the teams are decimated by Origin players, injuries, and internal club punishments for off field acts.

And before you all accuse me of not saving money because then 17 teams have to fly to New Zealand and back, hold onto your horses. Or Donkey. Just don’t touch me.

The NRL could put on a Cruise Ship from Sydney to Auckland, half of the ship booked for players and staff, and the other half for fans paying a premium to be on the same ship as all the rugby league stars. Of course with that amount of food, alcohol and fans with social media, there will be a heavy security details attached. But good news is they can go to the Middle East war after if it is still going, as dealing with Iran missiles will be easier to handle than many drunk NRL fans abusing NRL players. Or vice versa.

The cruise ship can then sail up the coast to Brisbane and Townsville where the Queensland fans can have the same experience, and be charged the same premium. Although, it will still be less than a family ticket and a drink to a Broncos game.

Maybe they could do Newcastle for two weeks before finishing the season in Sydney again.

And you know there’s no point doing a Magic Round in Melbourne, as their interest in rugby only starts in September. And even then…..

Looking long term you could also delay the start of the Perth Bears by another year, which would thrill their US Fox News-like media, and give the Bears time to steal more of the Storm’s players. That would save on aero fuel. Same for PNG, but given their current effort setting up a side, I’d be more worried about rising sea levels and not Mad Max style running out of fuel problems before they’re ready.

So rugby league would become a travelling carnival or circus, which sometimes it closely resembles anyway. Giving the fans more access than ever, the NRL makes more money, and the Australian Government saves more fuel than it could ever dream of, and Ray Stone stays with the Dolphins in between memes.

Rugby League saving Australia again. What a sport, and that’s why we all love it, with the exception of Buzz Rothifeld, who doesn’t.

Talking of Buzz, this week’s expert tips will get old really quick too.

The NRL Donkey’s 2026 NRL Round 4 Expert Tips & Match Analysis

GAME BY GAME

THU 8pm – MANLY v ROOSTERS

So surprised this game isn’t on a Sunday. Be surprised if I can/could be bothered watching on either day. The potential uber-focus on DCE seals the deal for non-participation.

Roosters by 10

FRI 6pm – WAHS v WESTS TIGERS

How good is a table topping Wahs. The opposite to the Tigers who got some key injuries just when they’re starting to look good. Their away form on Friday so bad there’s no way I’d tip them at full strength.

Warriors by 26

FRI 8pm – BRISBANE v DOLPHINS

I just wanna see hate.

Dolphins by 2

SAT 3pm – BULLDOGS v NEWCASTLE @ Accor Stadium

No offence, but seeing Tyson Gamble means Newcastle have a lot of players out, and they won’t win.

Bulldogs by 12

SAT 5:30pm – PENRITH v PARRAMATTA @ CommBank Stadium

Penrith will take great joy in choking the points that their local rivals Parramatta can score this weekend as much as Parramatta will take great joy in wiping the smile of Penrith’s face. I will take great joy in watching both happen.

Penrith by 20

SAT 7:30pm – NORTH QUEENSLAND v MELBOURNE

Melbourne might still be shocked after last weekend’s second half v Broncos. Cowboys might be equally shocked after winning.

Melbourne by 8

SUN 4pm – CANBERRA v CRONULLA

Hopefully it doesn’t rain in Canberra at that stadium. Canberra should be thankful that Craig Bellamy wasn’t in the coaches box last weekend, or they may have felt the shards in Queanbeyan. Picking Canberra because I like them better.

Canberra by 8

SUN 6:15pm – GOLD COAST v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

In English Football they’d call this a relegation six-pointer match. Maybe they should relegate one of these two teams.

Dragons by 2

NRL | 2026 NRL Round 3 Team of the Week & Player Stats

0

Time to separate the rugby league Wheat/Chaff or the NRL Mutton/Lamb and maybe the Burton/Flanagan for our 2026 NRL Round 3 Team of the Week & Player Stats.

First we have our Team of the Week, which takes some of the key player stats from the weekend and using various scoring methods come up with the best players in their positions from the latest round of the NRL.

Then there’s additional player stats from this weekend that was and the season that is.

It’s got more science and math, and less bias than a pair of Dally M judges.

2026 NRL Round 3 Team of the Week

We’ve used the stats for each position and picked the best starting 13 players from the most recent round, the stats and points assigned are explained at the end.

On top of the best starting 13, we also include the best four interchange players of the week. Seeing who has provided maximum impact from the bench.

And a few of the players we thought the stats were a little too harsh on. Or just super bias on players we love.

Sometimes, the stats don’t get it quite right, but they are easy to blame.

AI Greg Norman2025 NRL Grand Final; Review

The NRL has been run and won for another weekend, with winners showered with praise and losers taunted and booed until throats and fingers are sore on keyboards across social media. But the NRL weekend can’t be completely over until someone special has had their final say. So for your rugby league pleasure, we present the AI Greg Norman 2026 NRL Round 3 Review.

The Gurgler website will drown you with stats and facts about the weekend of rugby league that was soon, so why not let AI Greg Norman, courtesy of the Gemini AI generation give you the full 2026 NRL Round 3 Review in picture. And colour.

While professionals and office-based managers use AI as a buzz word for doing their actual job, The Gurgler puts AI to work in the most wonderful way. Combining the growing power of AI with the human magnificence that is Greg Norman. You won’t get another NRL weekly review like it.

AI Greg Norman 2026 NRL Round 3 Review

Canberra 10 Bulldogs 14

AI GREG SAYS: The main talking point was how sh!t Canberra is. Bronson Xerri was right.

Roosters 4 Penrith 40

AI GREG SAYS: The Panthers gave the Roosters a real roasting on Friday night, with the DCE experiment underwhelming so far.

Melbourne 14 Brisbane 18

AI GREG SAYS: No one thought Brisbane would win in Melbourne, especially at half time, but Brisbane grew into the game as they rode the storm, and the Melbourne side did stuff their coach doesn’t like.

Newcastle 12 Warriors 38

AI GREG SAYS: Wahs winning three in a row is a great thing for rugby league, but spare a thought for Newcastle and their key player injury list already.

Cronulla 10 Dolphins 38

AI GREG SAYS: The Sharks sure did take a beating from the Dolphins.

South Sydney 20 Wests Tigers 16

AI GREG SAYS: Tigers just fell short of breaking their woeful record v Souths, and key injuries to their key players – Jarome Luai being the most valuable – are hurting them after just two games.

Parramatta 30 St George Illawarra 20

AI GREG SAYS: Typical Channel Nein all-Sydney clash. Between two Sydney teams and not watched by Greg.

North Queensland 30 Gold Coast 16

AI GREG SAYS: These teams stink, and neither will make the finals.
