WOODEN SPOONERS – The New Rugby League Reality Show

A new rugby league reality show is set to launch on Stan next month.

A spin-off of the popular Gogglebox franchise, Footybox will feature everyday ‘armchair coaches’ giving their opinions about selected NRL games and men’s and women’s State of Origin.

The host James Bracey has warned that it won’t be your typical rugby league show.

“This show is purely about entertainment. We’ve picked fans who think Block Plays are what their kids do with their Legos. We’ve hand-picked the fans with the wildest and most unflitered opinions. Ideally they haven’t played a game of footy in their life, but act like they could run out and out-perform Nathan Cleary at a moment’s notice. The type of fans who pine for the ‘good old days’ of the ’80s and ’90s, think the modern game is too ‘woke’, but watch most games every weekend anyway.”

The highlight of the opening episode is 50-year-old Dazza, who turns the opening Origin off in disgust after Queensland led 20-0, loudly complaining that “Rugby league is dead!” and “That clown V’landys has ruined it forever!”

Dazza sits down to watch the 1986 Grand Final (won 4-2 by Parramatta), and spends most of the game reminiscing about a time when “Men were MEN, the players tackled properly, and nobody got sent off for high tackles or shoulder charges.”
