A Brisbane man has vowed never to perform karaoke again after a nightmare evening.
Sam’s Friday night out with friends was going well until they visited a pub in Queen St with a karaoke section. While his friends had since gone elsewhere, Sam was full of Dutch Courage and decided to give Linkin’s Park ‘One Step Closer’ a crack.
Though Sam quickly realised he was out of the depth, struggling to keep up with the verses and not even getting into the screaming parts before the boos started coming.
“I was looking forward to having a nice scream, but I didn’t even get that far.”
Drowned out by the crowd, Sam quit the song before the second verse, walked off stage, and went to the sports bar down the back to watch TV and drown his sorrows.
“Fox League had a replay of the 1995 State of Origin series, which cheered me up a bit as that was one of our iconic series wins.”
Arriving home in a better mood, Sam promised himself never to sing karaoke again.
“In hindsight I was kidding myself! While I like to scream in the shower, I know I can’t sing, so karaoke is a waste of time! Thank God my friends weren’t there to see me.”
While Sam may still visit the same pub in the coming weeks, he’s going to walk straight past the karaoke room and not look back.
