Missed all the rugby league results this weekend because you were distracted by the Wests Tigers again? Or maybe you were distracted by the Commonwealth Games, which we presume is highly unlikely. Or maybe it was the sheer number of point the Cowboys conceded this weekend. Our “popular” One Minute Match Reviews offers up just enough facts and figures and opinion to make it through the awkward chats the next morning on public transport, or something to talk about when ringing into the local ABC breakfast show of your choice. Or just enough level of interest so you don’t have to make eye contact with that jerk in the office you really don’t want to have to be nice to. Regardless of how you spend your time, the One Minute Match Report has you just about covered.

NRL Round 22 Results & Stats Summary

Here are the main stats from the latest round of NRL that can be used to solve arguments, impress that person on the train you’ve been eyeing off for months, or to take to the United Nations to stop all wars.

NORTH QUEENSLAND v ROOSTERS

Normally we compile the stats from all games into one summary, but an 82-12 loss warrants its own section.

  • The 82 points conceded/scored is a record for the NRL era going back to 1998, beating the 74 points conceded jointly held by Wests Tigers (v NQ 2023), Penrith (v Canberra 2008) and Cronulla (v Parramatta 2003).
  • The 70 point loss is not the biggest loss in NRL era, that belongs to the Wests Tigers in their 74-0 loss to the Cowboys. So North Queensland hold the record for the biggest win, the second largest defeat, largest points conceded, and second biggest points scored total.
  • The Roosters 48 points in the first half is better than 312 other team efforts for a full 80 minutes this season. It is also 12 point clear of the next best first half effort of 2026 from Penrith v Wests Tigers.
  • The Roosters 14 tries in this game is 27% of the total season tries for the Dragons.
  • The Roosters made 11 line breaks, which barely makes the top 10 for single game effort. In fact, the Warriors made one more line break in their win over the Titans.

STAT OF THE ROUND

  • Cronulla have won 11 in a row at Shark Park on a Sunday.
  • The away side has won the last nine games between Wests Tigers and Parramatta.

LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

  • Roosters have won all four games at Queensland Country Bank Stadium v Cowboys.
  • Roosters have won 15 of their last 18 games away to Qld sides.
  • Dolphins have only played three away games in Sydney v Sydney teams in 2026. They have won all three.
  • Bulldogs have won their last three Friday games.
  • Penrith have won 7 in a row v non Qld sides on a Saturday.
  • Newcastle have won their last four games v Qld sides and have won their last four games v Qld sides at Suncorp Stadium.
  • Cronulla have won nine of their last ten games, and five in a row.
  • Cronulla have won 6 of the last 7 games v Souths,

BAD LUCK STREAK CONTINUES

  • The Cowboys have lost all four games at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on a Thursday to Sydney clubs.
  • Broncos have lost six Saturday games in a row.
  • Brisbane have won just one of their last 11 games.
  • Wests Tigers have now lost 7 in a row.

BREAKTHROUGH

  • Dolphins had previously lost all three away games in Sydney v Sydney teams on a Friday.
  • Bulldogs had previously won just one of their last seven away games.
  • Warriors had previously lost their last two away games on a Saturday.
  • Penrith had lost their last two Saturday games, although both were in Qld.

IT WAS GOOD WHILE IT LASTED

  • The Dragons had won 6 in a row v Qld sides at WIN Stadium and got pretty close this weekend.
  • Melbourne had previously won all five home games v Bulldogs on a Friday.
  • Gold Coast had previously won their last two Saturday games.
  • Canberra had previously won 6 of their last 7 Saturday games and three in a row.
  • Brisbane had previously never lost to Newcastle as the home side in seven games on a Saturday.

STUPID STATS

  • The loser of both Cowboys v Roosters games this season scored 12 points, one lost by six points the other by 70.

TEAMS THAT CAN’T WIN THE PREMIERSHIP

  • Gold Coast conceded 50 points in Round 1 v Cronulla. And Gold Coast sides don’t win things. Also not enough games left to get to the magical 50% win rate.
  • Parramatta conceded 50+ points twice. Once v Melbourne in Round 1, then against Gold Coast in Round 6.
  • Dolphins – conceded 50 points v Manly in Round 5. Conceded even more v Cronulla in Round 19.
  • Melbourne Storm – conceded 50 points v Penrith in Round 5.
  • St George Illawarra – lost 11 in a row to start season – sacked coach – lost next game conceding 62 points. Even winning their remaining games isn’t enough to make the 50% win rate needed to make finals. Have only won two games, so would have fallen short of the four in a row they need to win the compo, even if they made the finals. Which they won’t.
  • Wests Tigers can’t win the premiership after conceding 52 points against Cronulla in Round 9. And plenty more v Penrith in Round 15. And again v Canberra in Round 21.
  • Bulldogs – can beat Penrith, can’t beat two teams with a combined injury toll of 27 players over two rounds earlier in the season.
  • Broncos – no team has lost six games in a row in a season and won the Premiership. Melbourne lost five in a row in 2012 and still won the title. Also not enough games left to get to the magical 50% win rate.
  • North Queensland – conceded 82 points v Roosters in Round 22.

All New 2026 Gurgler NRL Player Ratings

For a while now The Gurgler has been developing a Player Rating system for each NRL match, so why not test it now after one of the biggest games of the season.

We use stats and zero slats to determine a score out of ten for each player. The stats and weighting of stats change per position to make it fair. And worth noting that to get a 10/10 you have to be almost perfect in every way. A full explanation on the stats and weighting is at the end.

It will be different to our Team of the Week/Season as it is using different stats and weightings.
