A novelty metal band has found a new identity.
Brisbane’s ‘It’s Always Sunny in Killadelphia’ had been touring Australian metal clubs with their quirky death metal songs based on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but the appeal started to wear off when crowd numbers began dropping and they’d run out of ideas for songs from the show’s 17 seasons.
“A bit like the show, the ‘Gang gets into shenanigans’ formula was getting boring and we were staring to repeat ourselves, so we decided to go on hiatus and think of something new,” said frontman Dale Lachlan.
The new idea came last month when the band were mucking around in their rehearsal space.
“One of the boys was telling us how much he enjoyed the Masters of the Universe movie and how hot Alison Brie still looked. I said, ‘More like Alison BREEEE‘ as I screamed into the mike. The boys had a laugh, I screamed it again, the boys laughed again, and then we thought, ‘Maybe we can do something with this?'”
Deciding to take the bit of improv wordplay seriously, Lachlan and the boys renamed themselves ‘Alison BREEE!’ and began writing songs about the film and TV work of Alison Brie.
The band are planning to realise their new EP ‘CommuniBREEE!’, with five songs about Brie’s Community character Annie Edison.
“We have no idea how long this idea will last until we run out of ideas or get bored,” said Lachlan, “But we’ll play a few shows to promote the EP and see how the punters like it. The songs are still heavy as f***, so you can still headbang and get in the pit even if you don’t like Alison Brie.”
Everyday News reporters attempts to contact Brie’s publicity people to get her reaction, but they obviously didn’t reply as Brie is a busy actor and has better things to do than listen to a novelty Brisbane metal band.
