NRL Round 21 Results & Stats Summary

Here are the main stats from the latest round of NRL that can be used to solve arguments, impress that person on the train you’ve been eyeing off for months, or slowing the rise of petrol prices.

STAT OF THE ROUND

  • ssssssssssssssssssss

LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

  • Penrith have won their last five games at CommBank Stadium as the away side.
  • Penrith have won five in a row v Parramatta.
  • Roosters have won 20 of their last 23 games v Newcastle going back to 2012 and 6 in a row.
  • South Sydney have won seven in a row as the home side at the Olympic Stadium and all 6 this season, plus their last four games on a Friday there.
  • Canberra have won 6 in a row v Wests Tigers in Canberra. Canberra have won seven in a row v Wests Tigers on a Saturday anywhere.
  • Canberra have lost only once to the Wests Tigers in Canberra on a Saturday – W8 L1.
  • Bulldogs have won four in a row v Wahs.
  • Bulldogs have won 6 of their past 8 games at the Olympic Stadium.
  • Cronulla have won eight of the last nine v Manly.
  • Cronulla have won 6 in a row as the away side v Manly, 5 in a row were at Brookvale. They scored exactly 40 points in three of those games. 5 of those games were on a Sunday.

BAD LUCK STREAK CONTINUES

  • Parramatta are also bad on a Thursday like Penrith – they have won just once in their last 7 games on a Thursday.
  • Melbourne have lost seven games in row away on a Friday and won just two of their last 12 Friday away games.
  • Wests Tigers have lost nine in a row away on a Saturday and won just once in 18 away games on a Saturday.
  • Manly have lost 10 of their last 12 games on a Sunday v all teams.

BREAKTHROUGH

  • They may have won, but Thursdays overall are a problem for Penrith – Penrith have lost eight of their last ten Thursday games. Panthers had also lost five in a row away on a Thursday coming into this game.
  • North Queensland had lost seven in a row at home to Brisbane based sides – Dolphins and Broncos.
  • Gold Coast had won just one of their last 10 games away on a Sunday v Sydney teams before beating the Dragons this weekend.

IT WAS GOOD WHILE IT LASTED

  • Newcastle had won four in a row at home to Sydney clubs before losing to the Roosters.
  • Melbourne had won five in a row on a Friday v South Sydney before losing this weekend.
  • Brisbane had won their last three games v Cowboys in Townsville.
  • Dragons had won four in a row v Gold Coast at home, only one of those games was at Kogarah though. But St George Illawarra had also won both games v Gold Coast at Kogarah on a Sunday.

TEAMS THAT CAN’T WIN THE PREMIERSHIP

  • Gold Coast conceded 50 points in Round 1 v Cronulla. And Gold Coast sides don’t win things. Gold Coas
  • Parramatta conceded 50+ points twice. Once v Melbourne in Round 1, then against Gold Coast in Round 6.
  • Dolphins – conceded 50 points v Manly in Round 5. Conceded even more v Cronulla in Round 19.
  • Melbourne Storm – conceded 50 points v Penrith in Round 5.
  • St George Illawarra – lost 11 in a row to start season – sacked coach – lost next game conceding 62 points – and only won in Round 13. Even winning their remaining games isn’t enough to make the 50% win rate needed to make finals.
  • Wests Tigers can’t win the premiership after conceding 52 points against Cronulla in Round 9. And plenty more v Penrith in Round 15. And again v Canberra in Round 21.
  • Bulldogs – can beat Penrith, can’t beat two teams with a combined injury toll of 27 players over two rounds.
  • Broncos – no team has lost six games in a row in a season and won the Premiership. Melbourne lost five in a row in 2012 and still won the title.
  • Only the Dolphins in the above no-winners group are inside the top eight at Round 21.

All New 2026 Gurgler NRL Player Ratings

For a while now The Gurgler has been developing a Player Rating system for each NRL match, so why not test it now after one of the biggest games of the season.

We use stats and zero slats to determine a score out of ten for each player. The stats and weighting of stats change per position to make it fair. And worth noting that to get a 10/10 you have to be almost perfect in every way. A full explanation on the stats and weighting is at the end.

It will be different to our Team of the Week/Season as it is using different stats and weightings.
