F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST 10/10

So fast and flowing and always a pleasure to see the cars going around the Spa circuit. Some tracks may have a faster average lap speed, but it is more manufactured than at Spa. The Eau Rouge section in the early part of the lap is one of the best parts of F1 circuitry anywhere.

ACTION 8/10

Being super fast, with a very tight first corner after a short starting straight, and the unpredictable weather means there’s usually a lot of stuff happening at the Belgian Grands Prisss. And if even if they’re not exactly racing the best, it is still a sight to see F1 cars blasting around the circuit. Although, hopefully the new technology on these cars doesn’t ruin that. Ma will let us know if it does.

BIG HISTORY 10/10

A historic track whose legendary status survived a 1980’s makeover in the current configuration. There was a race at this track in 1950, when it was more of a high speed Sunday drive through the countryside, and have been many since. Not every year, as they decided to go to some dull alternatives in the 1960’s and 1970’s, likely on safety grounds, which they had a point. Although the legendary Gilles Villeneuve was killed on one of the tame tracks at Solder, so…….

But quite a few legendary moments, and it is one of those tracks with so much prestige that it is a CV Bo ticker for the drivers.

INCLEMENT WEATHER  6/10

The Weather Channel says anywhere between 64% chance of rain on the Friday to 35% on Sunday. But it’s Spa where the weather can do anything.

RACE POTENTIAL RATING 90% – Best circuit of the season with usually classic racing on offer and fast, flowing sections that they’d probably never let you build these days.
