RECORD v BIG SIX CLUBS
Liverpool: W2 D2 L5 — Home W1 D1 L2
Chelsea: W2 D2 L4 — Away W1 D1 L2
Verdict: The saddest late-season big six clash for a while? Although, big six tag might have to be re-visited soon.
Prediction: Liverpool 2 Chelsea 0
SATURDAY 3PM – BRIGHTON v WOLVES
Stats: Brighton are unbeaten in their last eight games v Wolves (W5 D3). Four of the last six games between these sides at Brighton have ended in a draw (one win each also). Brighton have never lost at home to Wolves on a Saturday (W6 D6). Brighton are W4 D6 L1 v bottom six clubs this season. Wolves are D3 L10 away to non bottom-six clubs this season.
Verdict: Brighton still a chance of 6th and Champions League is the interest here is it?
Prediction: Brighton 3 Wolves 0
SATURDAY 3PM – SUNDERLAND v MANCHESTER UTD
Stats: Man Utd have won only one of their last four trips to Sunderland (W1 D1 L2), Man Utd are W2 D2 L1 v promoted clubs this season, both of the away games were draws. Sunderland are W1 D3 L1 at home to top six sides this season.
Verdict: Sunderland being five points behind 6th place and potential Champions League is mark of respect at their promotion season, and hopefully next season’s crop can do even better.
Prediction: Sunderland 1 Man Utd 1
SATURDAY 3PM – FULHAM v BOURNEMOUTH
Stats: Three of the last four games between these sides at Fulham have ended in a draw. Fulham haven’t had a consecutive result in their last seven games. Bournemouth have the longest current unbeaten run in the Premier League of 15 games without defeat (W6 D9) followed by Man City (12), Nottingham Forest (7) and Leeds (6). Bournemouth are W2 D3 L1 away to London clubs this season. Fulham are W1 D2 L2 v current top six sides at home.
Verdict: A Saturday 3pm special.
Prediction: Fulham 1 Bournemouth 1
SATURDAY 5:30PM – MANCESTER CITY V BRENTFORD
Stats: Man City are unbeaten in their last five games v Brentford (W4 D1). Brentford are W 1 D1 L2 v current top six sides away. Man City (W5 D2) are one of four teams unbeaten at home to middle eight sides – with Arsenal, Liverpool and Brighton. Since Brentford’s return to the Premier League in 2021, the H2H record between these sides is Man City six wins, Brentford two wins and one draw.
Verdict: Can Brentford almost win the Premier League for Arsenal with an upset win? Probably not.
Prediction: Man City 3 Brentford 2
SUNDAY 2PM – NOTTINGHAM FOREST V NEWCASTLE
Stats: Nottingham Forest are top of the last six form. Nottingham Forest are W5 D1 L9 v middle eight clubs this season, but unbeaten in their last three (W2 D1). Newcastle have won the last four games v Nottingham Forest and won the last three games at Nottingham. Nine of the last 11 games between these sides have seen three goals or more (the other two games saw two goals). Newcastle’s W2 D2 L7 is the third worst return on a Sunday this season for points per game.
Verdict: Nottingham Forest being top of the form table tells you all you need to know about this Premier League season. They could seal Premier League safety this weekend, which would be something for their 4th manager of the season to celebrate. Having a midweek Europa League clash v Aston Villa doesn’t help. Newcastle at least broke a run of four straight losses last weekend.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1 Newcastle 1
SUNDAY 2PM – BURNLEY v ASTON VILLA
Stats: Aston Villa have won the last four clashes v Burnley. Aston Villa have won the only clash between these sides on a Sunday at Burnley. Burnley (D4 L6) are winless v current top six sides this season. Only West Ham have also failed to win a game v current top six sides. Aston Villa are W12 D2 L5 on a Sunday this season, Burnley are W1 L3.
Verdict: Conspiracy theories are being thrown around that Aston Villa purposely lost to Spurs last weekend to help their Europa League cup match v Nottingham Forest. Burnley are winless in nine games, so a good opponent to play.
Prediction: Burnley 0 Aston Vilal 2
SUNDAY 2PM – CRYSTAL PALACE v EVERTON
Stats: Everton are unbeaten in their last seven games v Crystal Palace (W5 D2). Going back to 2016, Everton have lost just once v Crystal Palace in 19 games (W10 D8 L1). Going back to 1998, Everton have lost just once in 14 games at Crystal Palace (W7 D6 L1). Crystal Palace are unbeaten in the only two games played on a Sunday v Everton (W1 D1).
Verdict: The Sunday equivalent of the Saturday 3pm special.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1 Everton 1
SUNDAY 4:30PM – WEST HAM v ARSENAL
Stats: Arsenal are W4 D2 away to West Ham over the last six games and have lost only once over the last 18 games between these sides at Arsenal. Arsenal are W5 D3 for the last eight Sunday games too. Arsenal are W7 D2 v current bottom six clubs, and are one of only three clubs to remain unbeaten by the current bottom six clubs this season – along with Bournemouth and Man Utd. West Ham are D5 L6 currently v top six sides. Arsenal’s W8 D2 record v London clubs means they are the only unbeaten club.
Verdict: A real cliff hanger game that will probably go into 110th minute,
Prediction: West Ham 1 Arsenal 3
MONDAY 8PM – TOTTENHAM v LEEDS
Stats: Spurs have won the last five clashes v Leeds. Spurs are unbeaten in their last seven games at home to Leeds.
Verdict: A sensationally placed game for the wooden spoons catch ups.
