The people have voted, and not for the first time in the US in the past few years, an awful person won a vote from the USA – this time it is Derek Chauvin Jerk of the Month for May 2020.
It was one of the biggest gaps in recent votes, with former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin easing to victory.
That wasn’t an easy feat, especially given Donald Trump’s finest work and the fine bunch of jerks he was up against, but if you think about it, Chauvin really did deserve it all to himself.
Of course the jerk-work continues, and not only we will see some of these people again for the June 2020 Jerk of the Month because they can’t help themselves, but new people have already demanded a nomination.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
The US has a long, recent history of bad things happening to a group of people at the hands of the police, but the latest involving Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin is one of the worst, and has set off a chain reaction of hate across the US.
As if the Coronavirus wasn’t deadly enough.
The cruel way this ex police officer killed resident George Floyd deserves a lengthy sentence behind bars.
We wonder if his divorcing wife was up for a vote or two for her ex.
You would like to think that the act that started off protests all around the country will hopefully end in some real change, but refer to one or two of the nominations who didn’t win below, and there’s the sad realisation, that bugger all will change.

Although, after his bleach swilling policy, it is hard to believe he was worse last month than in May. But that arguable, and waiting for your vote if you disagree.

For suggesting “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.
For going to war with Twitter while the US passes 100,000 deaths.

Charity gone wrong
Why have they been such a jerk this month?
Celeste Barber pulled off one of the great feats of modern day humanity by getting $51M worth of donations following the bushfires in late 2019 and 2020.
What a shame that it ended up in the courts, and now can only be spent by the NSW Rural Fire Service.
As noble an organisation as that may be, I’m sure most, if not all of the people who donated would like to have seen that money spread more evenly.
Surely somewhere among the legal entanglements, something could have been done to share the wealth.
We’re pretty sure the NSW RFS won’t get many takers for repeat donations in the future. If they dare to ask.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
There’s nothing people love more than a Coronavirus hypocrite, and this Mr Cummings takes the cake as one of the bigger jerks breaking the Covid lockdown rules in the UK.
While footballers getting haircuts can be expected, as they are selfish, loaded jerks who live in another reality and usually not very bright, a person who was part of the process to tell people to stay at home, then breaking the rules really gets people mad.
And rightly so given the lack of remorse for his actions, and that the current government in the UK are giving him a bye for punishment.

Pouting buffoons who think they are important.
Why have they been such a jerk this month?
Much like the flu which is part of their title, an influencer is something that is snotty, unwelcome, and hard to stop.
One upside of Coronavirus is that these people have lost their lucrative lifestyle. And good riddance to it.
Who could argue against an influencer’s desire to chase free stuff, do nothing, take a photo or two and make a living from it.
Doesn’t mean we can’t hate them for the awful people they are.

With businesses struggling, they worried more about survival rather what some buffoon could say or not about them on social media. Long may it continue.

It comes as a surprise that this turnip hasn’t shown up more regularly in our monthly jerk poll.
There aren’t more consistently jerk-worthy people in Australia, and thankfully most of them are either on radio, Channel Nein or Sky Channel, which means we don’t have to see them very often.
But still, recent events like his 60 minutes garbage have demanded a selection in the May 2020 Jerk of the Month poll.

Everyone’s got an opinion.
And everyone’s got an arsehole.
We don’t want to sniff either.
The anti vaxxer debate rages on, usually led by people armed with facts, often arguing against those armed with a dangerous artillery of the expertise and the truth.
We could nominate them separately for May 2020 Jerk of the Month, but f— them, they should all be grouped into one big super jerk nomination. It will take a powerful group to bat Donald Trump anyway.
But some notable highlights are:
This heavily tattooed underperforming NRL player, and his influencing partner.
As for the 5G protesters, anyone found destroying this technology should be banned from using NBN and handed a dial up machine for any future internet use.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
For taking the Queensland government to court for the border closures.
It’s easy to be a politician who doesn’t actually have to do anything except for running their mouth off while showing their scenic rim on breakfast TV.
It’s harder to be actually in charge of something. And have to make decisions based on evidence that affect 5 Million people, and not just a handful of sympathetic supporters.
Taking the state to court is as jerk worthy a thing to do as anything else listed here. Perhaps she could move south of the border and the isolate there forever.
One wonders with a lack of immigration over the next year or so who she will hate next.

Understand the New D.I.C. Jerk Rating system
A new feature for 2020 is the enhanced Jerk rating to go along with the Jerk of the Month form guide each month.
Previously it was just a flat /10 mark, but we think there’s more layers than that. What needs to be considered is how big the jerk act was in the current month compared to their usual way of life. How important the person is, i.e. a person who should know/do better or just a random person who couldn’t help themselves. Finally, how consistently a jerk they are. The more they are, the more they deserve your vote in general.
D – Dastardly – For instance, a random footballer king hitting a referee is pretty bad, where yet another tantrum from a Tomic type person would be lower.
I – Importance – Was the jerk act at a big event, captured the world’s attention, or made by someone in a position who should know plenty better.
C – Consistency – Is the person a Jerk all the time, and with each new month’s nomination grows into your vote.
