The votes of The Gurgler readers have been counted and the end result is Scott Morrison Jerk of the Month January 2020.
Scotty From Marketing aka Prime Minister Scott Morrison is on quite the roll – he won the 2019 Federal Election, then December 2019 Jerk of the Month, then almost won the 2019 Jerk of the Year, and now has wrapped up consecutive monthly Jerk awards.
Hard to disagree with the readers, with his smug, defensive handling of the Bushfires being followed up with the sports grants affair in an equally smug/defensive manner.
The bushfires and Sports Grants have also seen some of his colleagues rate highly in the January 2020 Jerk of the Month voting. Regulars like Donald Trump, Uber drivers and Bernard Tomic all didn’t do anything too outstanding in January, but nevertheless still scored loads of votes, probably based on dedication to being a jerk.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
Some people gave Scott Morrison the benefit of the doubt for being on holidays in Hawaii when the bushfire emergency was going in NSW, but his arrogant explanation along with everything else he has done was given no benefit, and nor should it have been.
Every press conference since returning home was more of a spoiled kid trying to come up with excuses for doing something wrong.
At a minimum, in the country’s time of need, and at the time where his leadership was tested the most, he was found to be wanting, and not up to the job.
He deserved a JOM on the basis of that awful funding ad alone.
Even a recent toll had most people did not approve of the PM’s performance during the bushfires. Out of the people who were satisfied, 100% had subscriptions to News Let and Sky News.
Some people refused to shake his hand, or swore about him in a passing truck, but you get the chance to send him your best on his last month. With a vote for him with the January 2020 Jerk of the Month.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
It is almost OK to be a loud mouthed ignorant politician in Australia, as long as your rubbish stays in the country.
So Craig Kelly’s interview with UK Breakfast TV couldn’t have gone much worse. Looking like an ignorant fool, and then attacking the UK channel’s meteorologist as a simple Weather Girl who knew nothing.
Of course she has plenty of degrees in the right fields, and the only one who knows nothing is a coalition politician.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
A final political one for the month we promise.
This minister is under fire for her handling of the $100M in sports grants, a lot which seemed went to Liberal/National MPs favourite sports teams, and most of those are the toff-nosed private high school dross.
Then in the week just gone she forgot she had a multi million dollar property.
Even her own party don’t like her, with plenty of off the record bad mouthing as part of this article from October 2019.
So her current plight is no accident.

Is there a more ignorant type of person on the road?
Well, up to a year ago we would say the lycra army were the most ignorant people of the road, but the Uber drivers have taken being a jerk on the road to the next level.
Not that they mean to, but you just know that if you see a car driving around dangerously but slow at the same time, with 100% pig ignorance of any other living or non living being around them at the time, you know you are going to see that Uber sticker on the back windscreen.
A mark of true jerk if ever we saw one.

If serial monthly Jerk nomination Bernard Tomic thinks he can get out of a Jerk of the Nomination for January 2020 by simply failing to qualify for the Australian Open, then he is quite mistaken.
For not making the first tennis major of the year, and denying us from what would have no doubt been another fine piece of jerkery, he is nominated for the January 2020 Jerk of the Month.

Why have they been such a jerk this month?
If anyone was wondering where SARS went, then their curiosity should be quenched with the arrival of Coronavirus.
With the disease coming from China, and information not to be trusted from that country, it is difficult to tell how worried we should be.
Proper worried that is, not commercial TV news, breaking news, flashed up on screen worried.
We’d take for the world to be taken down, but something that sounds like a hangover.

Ben Stokes is an immense cricketer, who proved in 2019 that he is capable of winning games all by himself.

At least one tennis player usually makes it into our Jerk of the Month nominations around Australian Open time, and although they are not Australian this time, their tantrum is certainly worth a monthly Jerk call out.
This particular tennis jerk threw a big enough tantrum to throw his tennis racquet at his own father (by accident), and then got a the serving he demanded from his own mother.
