FA Cup Round 1 – Get Involved Before It Is Famous

The FA Cup Round 1 kicks off the proper section of the World’s greatest knockout Cup competition this weekend after many rounds and months of qualifying.

At this stage just the third and fourth tier sides from League One and Two join the ragtag bunch of Non League and Semi Professional Non League teams that have made it this far. Some have been in the competition for a long time before FA Cup Round 1 even starts.

Most people don’t really give a stuff about the FA Cup until the big teams join in Round 3. By then a handful of Non League teams remain, and the terms minnow will be thrown around like Origin Bolter in the NRL. There will be loads of feel good stories too about Non League players day jobs, like Rob the Baker, Geoff the Banker, and Rob the Plumber. Not to forget “Magic of the Cup”.

So why not get involved at this stage of the competition. You’ve already missed enough by missing all the qualifying rounds. And there’s also plenty of games on ESPN on Foxtel to enjoy. Some from grounds which hold fewer than a food line at an EPL ground.

As FA Cup Round 1 and 2 interest usually lies in the Non League teams that are left, here to save you time is the list of the lesser knowns.

Non League Teams that can make it to the big payday.

The goal for most of the teams in the FA Cup at this stage is to keep going for as long as possible. Especially if they make it to the third round when the EPL and Championship big boys come into the competition. All of them hoping for a Manchester United away draw to fill coffers to unprecedented levels.

Here are our top ten sides that could make the 3rd Round and possibly even further. We picked five teams before 3rd Qualifying Round that could make this round – we got three right.

Braintree Town
Dover Athletic
Sutton Utd
Altrincham
Macclesfield
