Gurgler’s Sporting Winners & Losers

We’re always talking and bitching about sport at The Gurgler, so why not have a weekly whine, with our weekly presentation of the sporting winners & losers for the weekend that was.

WINNERS

F1 FANS – with the Hungarian GP gone and German GP to come this weekend, that will make 6 races in 7 weeks. Good times. The racing isn’t too bad either with rain a welcome companion in recent editions.

BRISBANE LIONS – a week after being on of our losers they finally won a game. Sure it was against an Essendon side decimated by Dank work, but it would have been more embarrassing if the Lions couldn’t beat them.

QRL – for Country Week. The QRL have sent out their competition to the far reaches of the state for five years now, giving communities who get bugger all from various governments a little joy. This year Charleviille, Mount Isa, Moranbah, Gympie, Ravenshow and Barcaldine all got a taste. We thought the NRL could give it a try, but they won’t. Far too imaginative for the head of the game to think about.

TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS – Best of those sides were the Townsville Blackhawks who thrashed the Central Capras 74-12. That’s on the back of 4 losses in 5 games for a rare slide down the ladder for them. In case you are wondering – Yes Gurgler favourite and 2015 Person of the Year Willie Minoga scored the last of the 13 tries in the 79th minute.

SHARKS – another in a row, and playing quality football. Could do worse than have the Cronulla side in the Grand Final.

JASON TAYLOR (For Now) – Dropped Robbie Farah and they won, sort of justifying his decision. They were playing the awful Dragons, so another win without Farah will make it hard for any talk of being reinstated.

MIGUEL ANGEL JIMINEZ – Although he choked by losing a certain British Senior Open with a late double bogey amongst some other “notable scores” it is great to see him back at the top of any leaderboard.

LOSERS

BRONCOS – Truly awful on Friday night and proved beating Souths is no great form line.

ROBBIE FARAH – Result went against him on the weekend, and so might the entire club if he can’t keep quiet. There’s always UK Super League for him to smile about.

OLYMPICS – What a mess, and ultimately who cares. The poor facilities and potential death from mugging or virus at least makes it exciting.
