2015 was all about the PNG Hunters, well for a chunk of the winter it was for The Gurgler. Their unbeaten run that took them all the way to the finals got us excited that the PNG Hunters name would be on everyone’s lips come October after they won the NRL State Championship. Pity it ended with two consecutive finals series losses but the Hunters were still an excitement machine in 2015.
Of that excitement machine there was no one more exciting than the number 16 – Willie Minoga. There’s plenty to like about the PNG forward, and the Townsville Blackhawks have agreed and hired him for 2016. Surely that means that NRL is not too far away with their Cowboys tie up.
That likability and excitement were no doubt the main factors why 27% of our readership voted Willie Minoga as the Person of the Year.
He beat the unlikely runner up Duck from Sarah and Duck, proving that the readers of The Gurgler like their non humans in the annual vote, after Reggie the Rabbitoh won last year’s poll. Semi Radradra continued the popularity of League players here with third.
But in 2015 it’s all about Willie Minoga, and we congratulate him on this win and hope by this time next year the rugby league world will know him as well as we do from 2015.
