Fox Sports + Be In Sports – A Deal Made in Heaven for the Football Fan/Nerd

Sports viewing in Australia looked in real trouble a few months ago – the NRL announced a deal that had more Channel 9 games and no Fox Sports. Then the announcement came that Optus had pinched the English Premier League. What was left? F1 and AFL in Winter and the A League in summer. There appeared to be plenty of spare time to be filled to justify the $25 a month.

But we should have had faith in Fox Sports. Not only did they come through with a deal that now sees every NRL game on Fox Sports, completely halting any need for Channel 9 (and we were pretty happy about it – read here ) , but announced today that they had secured the rights to BeIn Sports, and we will see three new channel accordingly as part of the Fox Sports package.

Read the full story here at Fox Sports.

This means that the net result for next football season is Minus EPL but Plus Champions League, Euro 2016, Europa League, La Liga, Serie A, French Ligue 1, Bundesliga and our very favourite the English Football League, which will be rebranded into EFL next season in case you are dazzled by their fancy new logo.

Whilst the EPL will be missed, as an Ipswich Town fan who seem destined to remain in England’s second division forever, the arrival of BeIn Sports is the most welcome inclusion since the tremendous F1 coverage joined the stable.

To have all the European Leagues and Champions League games to choose from is another major positive. The only problem is now how to watch it all. We’re considering cloning ourselves so we can.

To complete the dream team of Football coverage (minus the EPL of course) would be if Fox Sports could somehow get the rights to show the Soccer Saturday show from their UK sister channel Sky Sports. If you haven’t seen it, it is essentially a panel of former players watching EPL games on your behalf providing excitable grunts and yelling over the top of each other when something big happens. Then there’s the ground by ground coverage of all four divisions and even the Non League and Europe updates that filter through.

Sounds boring? Of course it is. But as a Sports Nerd you know you love it anyway. That way you get some EPL updates to go with the 50 odds games you’ll need to stay in touch with on a Saturday night. So come on Fox Sports, do it.

Good times ahead and a reward for those whose Football expertise and interests doesn’t start in Liverpool/Manchester and end in London, running express through everything else. Except Doboy of course.
