Gurgler’s UK Football Weekly + Best Bets – The Own Goal

Another week, another slice of UK football News, Stats and Tips.

FOOTBALL - NEWS RESULTS HEADER a

– Biggest talking point in UK Football came from a packed Metro train in Paris and the fallout from the incident. There’s plenty of it on other reputable websites, but it isn’t a good look for an English football club and media who are usually the first and most vocal opponent against all previous offenders.

No doubt they will find the people responsible, how they ban them from attending games is another thing entirely.

– The EPL team who don’t win, don’t score, and don’t look like having much of a prayer of avoiding a trip to the Championship next season, finally have a new manager.

Former Spurs manager and former 1st manager listed for every new job has taken up the reins from Paul Lambert, and with the bar set so low, a few wins, and a few more goals will turn him into Villa legend.

– Further down in the Championship, the title race is as close any of the past decades of second divison. With 3 points covering the top four and a few more covering down to 7th, the title and automatic race to the riches looks a battle royal. Some are recent EPL refugees like Norwich, some are previous EPL with a little bit of history in the top flight – Ipswich, Derby, Boro, Watford. And then there is the surprise packets Bournemouth and Brentford. All could go up, most would be better than Villa has been this year.

– In the same division, Brentford have taken on some real forward thinking by sacking their manager in advance, giving Mark Warburton until the end of the year, when they will create a structure similar to Champions League winner. Despite taking the team from sacked manager in 3rd tier to a strong top place in the Championship, it won’t be enough for Brentford’s man to hang on until.
