One of the best races of the season is here. It has so much to offer – speed, walls, action-packed first corner and a history of momentous races. Only issue for some is that it starts way too early in the morning. Talking of rubbing eyes, our 2025 Canadian F1 Grand Prix Prix-View has to be seen to be believed.

The Gurgler’s 2025 Canadian F1 Grand Prix Prix-View brings some thoughts on the track and race itself, a more than a few barely interesting stats.

Essentially a quick summary of what a casual F1 fan needs in the shortest possible time for your convenience.

F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST? 8 / 10 – Whilst not the fastest track, it sure feels that way with the narrowish track surrounded by walls. Some great sweeping bends plus long straights that promote overtaking.

ACTION? 9 / 10 –It’s a track where stuff usually happens.

BIG HISTORY? – 8 / 10 – Been around since the late 1970’s and has been the home to some big name drivers first wins. Mainly Lewis Hamilton, and Thierry Boutsen.

INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 4 /10  The Weather Channel says there’s very little chance of rain. It’s all good. The track doesn’t need it. There could be smoke from nearby Wildfires, so that’s an extra element to consider, that the drivers won’t be able to see.

RACE POTENTIAL RATING 73%It’s Monaco, and even if it is dull with no overtaking and a bore fest of fuel and tyre saving, it’s still Monaco.

NRL | The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 15 Expert Tips and Opinion

NRL 2026 Season Predictions

Angrier than a room full of Fox League writers and NRL 360 hosts, slower than a Bunker decision, with more complaints about the NRL draw than all NRL coaches combined and as big a bullsh!t artist as Phil Gould, it’s time for the weekly Rugby League rant of The Gurgler’s NRL Donkey, who provides his NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 15 Expert Tips as well as offers an alternative, slightly unhinged view full of sass of the world of rugby league and beyond for another week.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 15 Weekly Rant

So Newcastle coach Adam “Whingescreens” O’Brien had a problem with fans booing his side down 0-16 at half time last round, apparently accusing the fans of not knowing anything about rugby league. First of all, can he be sure they were Newcastle fans. Perhaps Manly fans still have a grudge for that infamous 1997 NRL Grand Final loss or the even more infamous Mark Carroll v Chief nuclear collision. I disagree. Not about the Manly thing, but about booing.

If I was in Newcastle, and I have no reason to be, as I’d much rather be in Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Coonabarabran, and on the plains out of Narrabri, in no particular order, but not Byron Bay. Never Byron Bay. That place is a living, breathing YouTube episode or infomercial of some pathetic influencer that poisons the earth with their opinion and greed. I’m pretty sure they don’t know rugby league, and what they know or think they know I don’t care for, I’d probably would have booed too.

Back to Newcastle, via the plains of Narrabri, where apparently the hot sun is a killer, I’d argue the fans of Newcastle very much know their rugby league. Their team had lost four in a row at home, which is pretty hard to take in the colder months where beer is much less inviting to ease the pain, and given their team have scored on average 13 points a game this season up to that point, they were presuming their team wouldn’t be able to score more than the 16.5 points required to overtake Manly. So they booed because they knew the stats and form and worked out their team wasn’t going to win. It may be pessimistic sure, but it very much proves they know their rugby league. Well, at least Newcastle’s rugby league. Which on the whole, has been not so great in 2025.

Plus, as hard as it is to take for players, coaches and mascots, it is a fan’s right to boo. It’s what used to happen before social media allowed gutless keyboard warriors to send death threats to players and their families. Unless you knew the players phone and/or fax number, all you could do was boo. And boo the fans did. And do. And they have every right.

I remember sitting on a hill at the old Dolphin Oval watching pre-Broncos QRL, with the coldest of cold winter sea breezes blowing in, fans booed when their team deserved it, and their team had to like it. And if the players didn’t like it, there was always a post-game carpark bout available. Pre social media, mobile phones and Fox League when Buzz Rothfield was only 65 years old and only reported on NSWRL and still sucked, players and fans could punch on after the game if they wanted. I have no proof they did. But they could if they wanted. And some always appeared like they wanted to.

Then Mr O’Brien says the fans that booed were the ones that cheered after the game. Well duh……It counters his argument that the fans didn’t know rugby league.

If the fans didn’t know rugby league, then they would have wondered what Golden Point was. Or what involves a point. And they wouldn’t have known that the game went for eighty minutes and walked out at the hour mark thinking that was full time. And there was a distinct lack of balllllllllll being yelled like AFL fans do. So they obviously weren’t AFL fans. And the fact that the fans cheered when their team had scored more points than the other team proves that they know rugby league.

It could be worse. They could be Dragons fans who had to endure a 50 point thrashing by the Dolphins on the weekend, and they had a lot longer to go home. They also know rugby league, as most of them turned on the Flanagans after the game. Given my “love” for the Flanagans, I found it funny. As a Dolphins fan I found it thoroughly enjoyable. In fact, almost as good as it gets.

And the Broncos winning made it 2/2 for Qld sides at Suncorp Stadium for June, after Qld sides lost all four games in May including Men’s and Women’s Origin. And it appears that DCE has been blamed for one of those victories. Sadly the Qld Origin also unveiled the inclusion of Kurt Capewell. The answer to an Origin question that no one asked. Except for why is Captain Plod selected and not Corey Horsburgh. Maybe Billy Slater wants to be like Ange and win something in his second season and be sacked. Sadly his Season Three wasn’t better than Series Two. And Series Four looks like it has jumped the shark as they say in television. The only shark I like is Greg Norman. Maybe Greg could save the Qld Origin team. Greg can do anything.

Talking of under par, here’s this week’s expert tips.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 15 Expert Tips

THU – CRONULLA v ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA

At least Newcastle aren’t kicking off this round. A local rivalry that thankfully isn’t too badly affected by Origin. And when I say not badly affected, just the one player from either side made the Origin team/s. The Dragons were spanked by the Dolphins last weekend, and Sharks in general are even more ferocious than Dolphins. Especially the Great White Shark. Both animal and Greg Norman. Law of the jungle/ocean applies.

Cronulla by 36

FRI – GOLD COAST v MANLY

Hopefully there’s a safe space this weekend for DCE to get some sympathy from the crowd to feel better about being dropped from Origin. <Checks Notes>. Oh, it’s on the Gold Coast…..Hmmm, isn’t that the club where DCE….Oh yes it was….Oh well. Better suck it up then.

Gold Coast by 6

SAT – NEWCASTLE v ROOSTERS

At least this game isn’t starting the weekend off. And I do wonder if Newcastle’s fans will know rugby league enough to know that this game is on Saturday and the Roosters are a team from Sydney. Stats say Roosters, but who can trust stats during Origin. Maybe I don’t know rugby league.

Roosters by 20

SAT – COWBOYS v DOLPHINS

The Dolphins know how to score points don’t they? Amazing that a team that lost their first four games and looked a bit ordinary are now 7th and have one of the best for and against in the comp. And last weekend without Ray Stone. How did they do it?

Dolphins by 12

SUN – SOUTHS v BULLDOGS (Olympic)

Oh great, with Latrell Mitchell out on Origin duty, Fox League will only have Lachlan Galvin to talk about. Fox League’s tongue would have been very dry by the end of Monday night. Bulldogs were woeful in their last Origin-affected game. But they have Lachlan Galvin and Fox League now.

Been too distracted by whether Winter is coming or not? Or the Phil Gould and/or Lachlan Galvin saga?  So do you need some last-minute NRL tipping advice? Want something else to blame when the tips go wrong? Well then saddle up for The Gurgler’s NRL Round 14 Ratings and Late Mail.

In a new additional to our stable of NRL stats and tipping products, we have used all the stats we have, smashed them against each other like atoms, and come up with a H2H rating.

It includes this year’s form with a bias because it is this year, but we don’t forget historic stats of the H2H against this week’s opponents, and the ground and day the teams are playing on.

We’ve also applied an adjustment for each team’s increase or decrease in win % over the Origin period.

Then slice up the scores out of 100% between the two sides. The bigger the percentage, the more likely to win.

2025 NRL Round 14 Ratings

Here are the H2H ratings and winners for the first of the Origin affected rounds.

Our ratings only picked 6/7 last weekend, with the Warriors proving the elusive

The Ratings also includes the team’s relevant Origin period form.

2025 NRL Round 14 Ratings

2025 NRL Round 14 Late Mail

Thu NEWCASTLE v MANLY

Both teams have terrible stats for matches on a Thursday with Manly’s Thursday record slightly worse. But Manly are coming off a good win over the Broncos last weekend and Newcastle have lost four home games in a row. The Newcastle coach complained about the draw last weekend, but didn’t seem too bothered about the draw the weekend before when the Knights faced a depleted Panthers. Kalyn Ponga returns for Newcastle, but it probably won’t be enough.

Fri MELBOURNE v NORTH QUEENSLAND

Melbourne have an outstanding record at home and at home on a Friday. But their best stat is Melbourne have won 15 games in a row v Qld sides at AAMI Park. They last lost in 2016. But the Cowboys have a few stats on their side, although not as good as Melbourne’s. North Queensland are W7 L2 from their last nine games away from home not in Qld. And if the game is close at half time…..North Queensland (3) have won the most games this season when trailing at half time. Melbourne are W6 L5 for second halves this season. Harry Grant and Xavier Coates returns for the Storm tipping the balance to the home side.

Fri DOLPHINS v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA (Suncorp)

The Dolphins and Dragons are yet to meet at Suncorp Stadium and on a Friday, but importantly the wins have gone with the home side on all four occasions. The Dolphins have a dreadful record at Suncorp Stadium on a Friday with W1 L6. At least the sole victory was the magnificent win over Melbourne. That does improve v Sydney clubs on any day as the Dolphins are W6 L2. The Dragons have won their last two games at Suncorp Stadium v Qld sides by the same score 30-26 (both v Broncos). Dolphins welcome back a trio of stars in Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jeremy Marshall-King and Max Plath to a side which beat the competition leaders last round, albeit under strength. It’s one in (Christian Tuipulotu)
and one out (Jaydn Su’A) for the notable player changes for the Dragons.

Sat CRONULLA v WAHS

Not much in this game on paper. The Warriors have won their last three away and Cronulla their last three at home. The Warriors have lost only once in their last seven games. Both sides are missing a big name player, although the Warriors might miss Mitchell Barnett more than the Sharks could miss Ronaldo Mulitalo.

Sat BRISBANE v GOLD COAST

Brisbane were terrible last weekend and are on a run of one win in seven games. Not to be outdone the Gold Coast have won once in their last eight games. Trouble is Gold Coast have won three straight v Brisbane including the last two at Suncorp Stadium. A stat going for the Broncos is they are 2/2 v Qld sides this season. Both games at Suncorp Stadium. Gold Coast are 0/2. Gold Coast are woeful away from home, Gold Coast have won only two of their last 16 away games on a Saturday. And one of their last 10 Saturday away games v Qld sides. At least they have come to their senses and moved Pat Carrigan back to lock. Reece Walsh returns to fullback, but one is never sure if that’s a bonus or not. The Titans get AJ Brimson back.

Sun CANBERRA v SOUTH SYDNEY

Canberra have won eight of their last nine and continue to find ways of winning. The Raiders also have half their spine returning this weekend in Jamal Fogarty and
Tom Starling. But there’s some big inclusions for the Rabbitohs in Cody Walker and Jack Wighton with a backline that’s getting close to looking it’s best. The H2H stats look best for Canberra though – Canberra have won the last three v Souths., Canberra have won the last five games v Souths on a Sunday. Souths have lost six of their last seven away games v sides not from Sydney.

Sun WESTS TIGERS v PENRITH (CommBank)

Both of these sides record at CommBank Stadium isn’t great, but at least Penrith have won both clashes between these sides at CommBank/Bankwest Stadium. Tigers have a terrible record at home on a Sunday, they are W3 L18 for home games on a Sunday since 2021. Penrith have a good record on any day v most sides, but that was another Penrith to the one playing this season.

Mon BULLDOGS v PARRAMATTA (Olympic Stadium)

This game sees Jacob Kiraz, Kurt Mann, Max King and Stephen Crichton all return for the Bulldogs, but the game could also see Lachlan Galvin make his Bulldogs debut as he is currently listed in the reserves. Almost hope he does so the sorry saga can end once and for all. Bulldogs lead the H2H for these Monday clashes v Parramatta 2-1. It’s advantage to the Bulldogs home and away too as Parramatta’s record away to Sydney clubs since 2024 is W2 L8 and Bulldogs record at home v Sydney clubs since 2024 is W7 L2.

NRL 2026 Season Predictions

Angrier than a room full of Fox League writers and NRL 360 hosts, slower than a Bunker decision, with more complaints about the NRL draw than all NRL coaches combined and as big a bullshit artist as Phil Gould it’s time for the weekly Rugby League rant of The Gurgler’s NRL Donkey, who provides his NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 14 Expert Tips as well as offers an alternative, slightly unhinged view full of sass of the world of rugby league and beyond for another week.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 14 Weekly Rant

We’ve jumped over the halfway point of the regular NRL season and we’re yet to see a sacked coach. But you get a feeling it won’t be long.

Newcastle’s Adam O’Brien always seems to be the next coach sacked along with the Cowboy’s Todd Payten, but given the Newcastle side average 13 points a game it’s no surprise. He had a mighty moan last weekend about the NRL draw given their Friday game was two days after Origin Game One which meant Kalyn Ponga was scratched, and he has a fair complaint, but he can file his complaint with the thousands of others from NRL fans about how much Origin sucks the life out of the NRL. It’s the same end result, both Newcastle and NRL fans don’t win. The Newcastle coach certainly didn’t complain the weekend before when he played a Penrith side missing all of their Origin players, resulting in a rare Knights win over Penrith. Coaches are funny people though.

Talking of not winning, why do Newcastle with their dreadful attacking prowess start off the NRL round again this weekend. Newcastle have kicked off the NRL weekend four times this season by this weekend. Take a look at the Round 14 fixtures and there is at least five better games. Of course one of them is the Warriors, and how dare I suggest that a Warriors game could lead off a weekend of NRL. Channel Nein wouldn’t stand for it. They hate New Zealand. And I’d like to think New Zealand hates them. It’s at about this time that Channel Nein producers will issue cheat sheets to all Channel Nein broadcast staff to start getting to know the Warriors players, coaches, colours ahead of their magnificent return to Finals football.

Perhaps in the future the NRL could use the Origin period to reset the draw. The pre-Origin rounds are done well before the start of the season, and then the second half of the season is redrawn at Origin time, so the broadcasters can reassess the best games based on how teams are looking in the current season and ensure the best games in the best timeslots. Although that’s wishful thinking. Channel Nein will insist that the Sunday 4pm will still be  a gamer between two Sydney teams, the Warriors will be banned from Thursdays and Fridays prime time slots. Canberra too.

Another coach under the pump is Michael Maguire who seems to be even less popular than Kevin Walters. Which is easy, as Kevvy is at least likeable, even when he’s not winning. Maybe the Michael Maguire hire for the Broncos is the ultimate inside job from NSW, to cement a dynasty for the Blues for a decade to come. I can see it all now. Maguire wins the 2024 Origin series, then steps down to dismantle the Broncos and ensure they are too exhausted to play good for Qld or Brisbane, turning Qld fans against them and a vicious cycle begins. Very clever NSW. Except the Courier Mail will ensure Maguire is sacked soon enough now that the ALP are out of state government.

Moving to State of Origin, this website has already had their say on the game with their One Minute Match Report, but I think they were being nice. Queensland sucked and the game was pretty much awful. Not as bad as the Newcastle game will be this weekend, but close.

Maybe it’s Queensland’s fault for being so uncompeditive. Maybe it was the Ikea flat pack building furniture levels of excitement from Andrew Johns or just Cameron Smith talking at all that made it seem worse. Or the ads. Or the ads featuring Cameron Smith. I’d bad mouth the lead commentator if I knew his name. It’s not Rabs, or the great Peter Psaltis, so I don’t care. Psaltis should be the lead caller on Channel Nein. Or better still, Peter should move to Fox so I can have the best of both worlds. Channel Nein can have Cooper Cronk as a player swap. And Michael Ennis. And Buzz. Lock him in an office with Gus and record the podcast that everyone needs. And wants.

Much like the Origin period of the NRL, this weekly preview is probably disappointing and a little half assed (pardon the pun, I am a Donkey), but I can leave for a fresh pile of hay before handing off the expert tips for the weekend ahead.

The NRL Donkey’s 2025 NRL Round 14 Expert Tips

Thu NEWCASTLE v MANLY

The stats on these sides are so awful coming into this game it seems neither want to win it. Well, they did draw a few years ago. Maybe they will draw again. You’d presume Newcastle coach would be against that result given it is called a draw and that’s what he blamed last week’s loss on.

Manly by 16

Fri MELBOURNE v NORTH QUEENSLAND

The very best of luck to North Queensland, as Melbourne have won a million in a row at home to Qld sides.

Melbourne by 30

Fri DOLPHINS v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA (Suncorp)

A home side special. Hopefully (he says with the one eye open). Some Qld teams need to win at Suncorp Stadium.

Dolphins by 16

Sat CRONULLA v WAHS

Probably the game of the round, no surprise it isn’t on FTA as it involves the Warriors. Channel Nein hate New Zealand by the looks. Lucky the rest of us love the Wahs. And hate Nein.

Warriors by 4

Sat BRISBANE v GOLD COAST

At least the Gold Coast look like they are trying. No wonder Qld are going sh!t in the Origin.

Brisbane by 2.

Sun CANBERRA v SOUTH SYDNEY

Can we call the Raiders run a juggernaut yet? Or is Canberra too boring a town to have such an exciting term assigned to it? Well their team is easy to like and winning in style. Who doesn’t like to see Ricky Stuart happy. Maybe Jaemon Salmon.

Canberra by 20

Sun WESTS TIGERS v PENRITH (CommBank)

A game where neither team likes to play at the ground. Seems kind of stupid. One does wonder how the NRL will piss of the Tigers this weekend. Via the Bunker at a minimum.

Penrith by 2

Mon BULLDOGS v PARRAMATTA (Olympic Stadium)

Watch for the Galvanised touch. Similar to the Midas touch, which sounded like a good idea but ruined everything. Except Galvinised isn’t as pretty as gold.

Parramatta by 12

2025 F1 Driver Ratings Featured Image

Here are The Gurgler’s 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Ratings – our way of rating the performances on the track without getting into trouble for swearing and staying out of Max Verstappen’s way.

Our G-Power Rankings goes a little bit deeper than just points scored on the Sunday and has a slightly cooler name than most. We take on board Free Practice, Qualifying, performance in relation to teammate, fastest lap, and a few more stats that are attempting to highlight a driver outperforming the car and/or thrashing their teammate.

Normally we have a season long bunch of stats, but we’re saving that for the end of season review that will be way too long for anyone to want to read. Regardless, here is our shortened version for contractual obligations.

Greg Norman Cooks…..Greg Norman Signature Beef

Greg Norman Cooks Episode 1 01

All images above were created using the technology of Grok and the slightly warped imagination of The Gurgler writing staff, who are frequently locked in a room and told not to come out until they have come up with at least 50 barely interesting stats on a specific sport, or something that makes the Telegram group give Hardy chuckles. G, they are easy to please though. But even if you don’t like the way Twitter, also known as X, is going, you should get into their AI app Grok, which needs a Twitter / X account, and let your imagination run wild. Maybe you could come up with some Greg Norman adventures of your very own to share with family and friend.
