Quick European Football Highlights #15 2018-2019

The weekend is here and that means it is time for us to offer up our quick European Football Highlights for the weekend.

Some might call our European Football Highlights hipster football, we don’t, it’s pure sports nerd and football goodness. Give us an Eibar, Sassuolo, or Borussia Monchengladbach any day.

This weekend the big game is the Derby d’Italia in Italy between Juventus and Inter, but get in early as it is a Friday night game. The two Barcelona teams are going head to head with the poorer cousin Espanyol flying higher than usual. There’s also our favourite team and entertainers Eibar have another early kick off.

There’s very little French football due to protests around the country. Sadly that means an interesting Monaco v Nice – Henry v Viera match is off.

But if you have a life and can’t watch everything, we offer up our quick European Football Highlights, to help you follow the best of it, without the need to stay up for absolutely everything. With added TV times

Quick European Football Highlights – The Matches

Here are the minimum of games worth keeping an eye on in our opinion.

There are TV Times for those in Australia lucky enough with Bein Sports.

    SERIE A – JUVENTUS v INTER
EURO KICK KICK OFF – FRIDAY NIGHT

The Derby d’Italia kicks off the European weekend and doubles as the big game in Europe too. Juventus are doing what one would expect with an already dominant side with the addition of Ronaldo, the one draw the only blemish in 14 League games. Inter are third and challenging Napoli for best of the rest tag, just three points behind but a long way behind this weekend’s opponents. One of the big rivalries, and in a timeslot for everyone.

    Prediction: Juventus 2-0
TV – Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – Saturday ADST 6:20am Bein Sports 1

LA LIGA – ATLETICO v ALAVES
EURO KICK KICK OFF – SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Who’d think that a Atletico Madrid v Alaves match in December would see 3rd and 4th in action, and only a point apart. No team has lost fewer games than Atletico with just one loss so fr this season, however their seven draws is the second highest. Sadly an upset looks unlikely as Atletico are undefeated at home and Alaves have lost three of their last four away.

    Prediction: Atletico 2-0
TV – Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – Saturday ADST 10:55pm Bein Sports 2

    BUNDESLIGA – SCHALKE v DORTMUND
EURO KICK KICK OFF – SATURDAY AFTERNOON

The big German game of the weekend is the Revierderby between Schalke and Dortmund. Sure it is 1st v 12th, but that doesn’t matter in most derbies. The record is pretty tight too, with Dortmund leading the way in the league by 32-31 and 29 draws. A Dortmund win isn’t all bad, they will strengthen their lead on the Bundesliga, and wouldn’t we all love a season where Bayern don’t win everything.

    Prediction: Dortmund 2-1
TV – Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – Sunday ADST 1:20am Bein Sports 2

LA LIGA – ESPANYOL v BARCELONA
EURO KICK KICK OFF – SATURDAY NIGHT

One good derby deserves another, so it is off to Barcelona for the late Saturday kick off between Espanyol and Barcelona. Back in late October the two Barcelona based sides were first and second. Barcelona are still first, but only by one point to second in the most open season of La Liga in years. Espanyol’s current run of three straight losses has seen them drop to seventh, but after Barca’s loss to Real Betis at home two games ago, their bigger city rivals are beatable. Barcelona have only lost seven times to Espanyol, the last time in the league back in 2009, although they’ve enjoyed success in Cups.

    Prediction: Barcelona 3-1
TV – Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – Sunday ADST 6:40am Bein Sports 2

LA LIGA – EIBAR v LEVANTE
EURO KICK KICK OFF – SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Of course a European Football Highlights package would include Eibar, our favourite Spanish team , and why wouldn’t it. Eibar are nothing if not entertaining, but are much more successful at home than away. As proved by their last two results. Two games ago they were good enough to beat Real Madrid no less by 3-0, but last weekend they lost 1-0 away to lowly Rayo Vallecano. Their opponents Levante have a decent record away, the fourth best this season, but Eibar have also won four of their past six and we say they’ll get the job done.

Almost half of the 25 games head to head have ended up in draws.

    Prediction: Eibar 2-0
TV – Bein Sports Australia Kick Off Time – Sunday ADST 9:55pm Bein Sports 2
