This week’s alternative tips is an easy one. Each side’s record for Round One since 1998. The higher the winning % the more likely they will beat their 2022 Round One opponent.

2022 NRL Round 1 Barely Interesting Stats
ROUND ONE FORM SINCE 1998
- Melbourne Storm haven’t lost a first round fixture since 2002. They lost three of their first four.
- The next best current winning first round streak belongs to Newcastle with four games.
- Bulldogs have lost five first round games in a row and eight of the last nine.
- Manly have the worst current first round losing streak with eight in a row. They haven’t scored more than six points in the last three.
MATCH BY MATCH BARELY INTERESTING STATS
Penrith haven’t lost at home to a Sydney team since April 2019. That’s 12 straight games at Penrith Stadium.
Penrith’s last loss at Penrith Stadium on a Thursday was to the Bulldogs in 2016.
Canberra are on a six game winning streak v Cronulla.
Just three of the 45 games played between Canberra and Cronulla since 1998 have been played on a Friday. And none of those have been played in Canberra. For the record Sharks lead 2-1 on a Friday.
The Broncos won just one of six clashes with South Sydney while Wayne Bennett was in charge.
Going back to 2012, the Roosters have won 14 of the last 16 clashes v Newcastle. They have also won seven in a row on a Saturday. Newcastle’s last win over the Roosters on a Saturday was in 2010.
St George Illawarra have scored either 18 or 20 points in five of the last six games v Warriors. They have also won five of the last six games. Just not the last one.
Wests Tigers have won two of the last five matches v Melbourne in Sydney.
The Tigers have won only two of their last nine at CommBank Stadium. Melbourne have lost both of their two games there too.
Parramatta have won their last five matches v Gold Coast and by a combined 166-46.
Gold Coast though, have won four of the six Sunday clashes between themselves and Parramatta.
The Cowboys have won just five of the 24 clashes with Sydney clubs over the past two seasons, and just two of 11 at home.
Cowboys have won eight of their last ten matches v Bulldogs.
