2021 Intrust Super Cup Round 10 Stats & Match by Match Preview
Here is where we go through each game on offer this weekend with the teams, stats and points of interest to get into your local team this weekend.
Round 10 Teams originally published on QRL website.
SATURDAY 2:10PM NORTHS DEVILS v PNG HUNTERS
THOUGHTS & STATS
Norths continue their great 2021 season, not letting that 38-0 blip v Burleigh a few weeks ago slow them down, and they certainly did a job on the previous high flying Tweed Heads Seagulls last round.
Looking at the inclusions this week, they look even stronger. Although the big name inclusions are from the Broncos which given their form recently isn’t the biggest endorsement. But still Tyson Gamble, Tyrone Roberts and Ethan Bullemor are good additions.
That will make it tough for the PNG Hunters to cause an upset.
The PNG Hunters looked quite good in parts against the Blackhawks last weekend and if it weren’t for an badly timed sin bin in the second half they may have stole the game from Townsville. Sure the Hunters took advantage of a later Blackhawks sin binning but by then it was too late.
This week sees the PNG Hunters name their best halves combination since Watson Boas left with Ase Boas and Charlie Simon in the halves. Unfortunately the trade off is no Edwin Ipape who was always dangerous and Terry Wapi.
They will find it hard to beat a side who have only lost once this season, but the signs of promise were there last weekend. As was a little more of the flair which has won so many new fans since their arrival in 2014.
Now for the stats.
Norths have won their last seven home games in a row on a Saturday. And ten in a row on Saturdays in general.
The PNG Hunters have lost seven in a row away in Brisbane on a Saturday. They also haven’t beaten a Brisbane side away other than Souths Logan since May 2018.
The last five games have been decided by either 12 or 22.
PREDICTION
Norths by 16
SATURDAY 4:00PM TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS v CENTRAL CAPRAS
THOUGHTS & STATS
The Blackhawks got past the Hunters last weekend, helped by a crucial Hunters sin bin, and they face a few PNG players who feature for the Capras this weekend. Notably the excellent Nixon Putt.
Tough gig for the Capras to try and break a 32 winless streak coming up against a team they have never beaten. The Capras best result v Townsville is a 26-26 draw back in 2017.
Is hasn’t been a stellar season so far for the Blackhawks. This is Townsville’s worst ladder position and record at Round 9 since their entry into the competition in 2015. Their current 4-5 record is much worse than their previous low of 6-3.
PREDICTION
Townsville by 8
SATURDAY 5:30PM NORTHERN PRIDE v IPSWICH JETS
THOUGHTS & STATS
The Pride continue their winning ways while Ipswich are still looking for their second win of the season. Given their first came against Central, perhaps the Jets prefer to play the more northern opponents.
The Pride will face their fifth consecutive Brisbane side at home for the season on Saturday. They lost their first two but have won the last two.
Ipswich have lost four away games in a row on a Saturday, their last win on the road was against the Pride in 2019.
Despite losing just two games this season and sitting in sixth, the Pride have only outscored the bottom two sides. Of them is Ipswich. On the flip side the Pride have conceded more than just two sides this season – Wynnum and Burleigh.
PREDICTION
Ipswich by 2
SATURDAY 6:00PM MACKAY CUTTERS v TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS
THOUGHTS & STATS
Tweed Heads’ unbeaten run of six games came to a screeching halt last weekend as they were soundly beaten by the Devils at home.
They may be helped with the inclusion of name-you-know Herman Ese’ese.
As for the stats – Mackay have lost ten games in a row at home. And haven’t beaten either side from the Gold Coast since 2017.
Tweed Heads have only lost one away game on a Saturday since 2019 – that was a narrow 22-24 loss to the Blackhawks. They have only lost two of 15 games home or away since 2019 on a Saturday.
PREDICTION
Tweed Heads by 4
SATURDAY 6:00PM REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS v BURLEIGH BEARS
THOUGHTS & STATS
Bears are on a five game winning streak and the Dolphins are four in a row. In a nice twist of numbers Burleigh are fourth and Redcliffe fifth on the ladder.
Redcliffe have lost their last two home games v Gold Coast sides.
Last weekend win for Redcliffe over the Falcons was their first win of six wins this season that didn’t end in a two.
Redcliffe have won 4/5 on a Saturday this season. Burleigh are 6/7.
Burleigh are one win from four away this season, but their only away win was their last away game against the then undefeated Devils 36-0.
PREDICTION
Burleigh by 6
SUNDAY 2:10PM BRISBANE TIGERS v SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS
THOUGHTS & STATS
Clash of the two Melbourne feeder sides, both of whom have supplied their players in recent weeks and all have shown they are up to the standard. Of course they are, it’s the Storm.
Particularly good news is the Tigers’ hooker Aaron Booth who impresses every time we have seen him, so good to see him going so well.
Both sides come into the game on the back of three straight losses.
Easts lead the H2H 5-1 against the Falcons at home.
PREDICTION
Tigers by 10
SUNDAY 2:10PM SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES v WYNNUM SEAGULLS
THOUGHTS & STATS
No Anthony Milford, which will reduce the home crowd but they do have a Ezra Mam who is an exciting prospect scoring three tries on debut a few weeks ago. Perhaps the future is now for the Magpies.
The stats aren’t good for the Magpies at home to Wynnum, be it the H2H at Davies Park or the fact that Wynnum are yet to lose this season. But the Magpies did break their home drought over the PNG Hunters this season after losing every contest at home to the Hunters since 2014.
Souths Logan have won just one of their seven clashes at Davies Park against Wynnum since 2014.
Magpies have lost their last five home games on a Sunday v Brisbane opposition. Wynnum are on a four game run on the road against Brisbane team on a Sunday.
Wynnum have won 11 in a row on a Sunday either home or away against Brisbane sides.
PREDICTION
Wynnum by 12
