WOODEN SPOONERS – The Controversial Social Media Account

A new NRL social media account is causing a stir.

Launched at the start of the year, The NRL Sledger has Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/Twitter pages and a companion 30-minute YouTube review show every Monday.

While the creator wishes to remain anonymous, they revealed to Everyday News that they don’t actually watch rugby league.

“Mate, I have a lot of deep-seated biases about certain teams, why would I want to ruin that by watching the games and paying attention to what’s going on?”

Instead, Sledger scrolls through the scores on the NRL app, does a light sweep of the stats, and forms an opinion from that.

“It’s more fun going in blind. I can say whatever the hell I want and watch all the sooks lose their minds in the comments because I made fun of their team! I love arguing with idiots.”

Sledger‘s favourite targets are Canberra (“perpetual chokers and Ricky is always sooking about something!), the Gold Coast (“a literal waste of time”), St George Illawarra (“Shane Flanagan is a protected species and you’re not allowed to say anything bad about Kyle”), the Wests Tigers (“an absolute joke and more drama than an American soap opera”), and Newcastle (“They’ve been s**t ever since Joey retired and Ponga is a fraud and is made of glass!”).

In breaking news, Sledger can reveal they’ve been offered a five-minute weekly segment on NRL360, though they plan to use an animated ‘sledger’ character to protect their identity.
