NRL | The A to Z of 2025 NRL Season Stats

The 2025 NRL season may be over, and if re-living it via an extensive look at the best of stats from the NRL season that was sounds enticing then our annual A to Z of 2025 NRL Season Stats offering should be right up your alley.

Through a combination of meticulous planning and procrastination, it has taken us this long to get this done, but what follows is a lengthy look at as many NRL stats from the 2025 NRL season that we hope was worth the trouble. Every letter of the alphabet is covered, although some creatively in the wedging of stats to letter was needed.

There’s a bunch of visuals, with the choicest stats pointed out as barely interesting for your convenience. We hope the A to Z of 2025 NRL Season Stats has everything you need from the 2025 season, and want.

The A to Z of 2025 NRL Season Stats

A – ASSISTS – TRY ASSISTS / LINE BREAK ASSISTS

No better place to start an A to Z of stats than with A, using any other letter would just be silly. We’ve combined Line Break Assists and Try Assists by player and position.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Centres are surprisingly more effective for assists than you think. Reece Walsh tops both counts, helped by a super finals series.

A-Z - A Assists

B – BREAKS – TACKLE BREAKS / LINE BREAKS

Combining Tackle Breaks and Line Break for simplicity, here are the best (and worst) line and tackle breakers from the 2025 season.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Payne Haas is the only forward to feature in the top 10 for tackle breaks. The Broncos and Rabbitohs were first and last respectively in both Tackle and Line Breaks.

A-Z - Breaks2

C – COMPLETION RATE

Here are the completion rates for the 2025 NRL season, with splits for Origin period and win/loss ratings.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: The Broncos completion rate was 5% for the finals than the regular season.

A-Z - C Completion Rate

D – DEFENCE

They say defence wins matches, so here’s a bunch of stats based on the points conceded from this season.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: The Roosters and Newcastle were the only teams to concede less away than at home. St George Illawarra and North Queensland’s best defensive efforts were against top 4 opponents.

A-Z - D Defence

E – ERRORS

Back to back wins for Zac Lomax as he makes the most errors for two consecutive seasons and for two different clubs. Neither of which made the finals.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Props are amongst the lowest for making errors in a mild surprise.

A-Z - E Errors

F – FIELD GOALS

If we can make one point, it would be about the one pointer. Here’s a few stats on field goals from the 2025 NRL Season.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Not shown below, but there were seven fewer One Point Field Goals in 2025 than 2024.

A-Z - F Field Goals

G – GOING EXTRA….POST CONTACT METRES

Ok, so the G is a bit of a stretch, but how could we exclude such a key stat?

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Broncos were top for Post Contact Metres in the finals but third last in the regular season despite having Payne Haas.

A-Z - G - Post Contact Metres Team

H – HALVES

Some games are a tale of two halves they say on the news, and on respectable websites, but never Fox League they love clickbait too much. So here is the proof that your team were one half wonders, slow starters or chokers. Sometimes all of the above.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Manly’s record when leading at half time this season was W11 L1, while their record when trailing at half time was W1 L11…….

A-Z - H Halves

I – INTERCEPTS

You’ll never have thought you’d need any stats on intercept, but here we are.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: The Dragons made no intercepts this season. Wingers are twice as good at intercepts as the next position. And taking an intercept doesn’t lead to a win as much as you’d think.

J – JERSEY NUMBER STATS

Given the extended Origin interference and occasional wild numbering on a Team List Tuesday during that time and other times, and that we had no better idea of how to use the J section, we came up with some of the keys stats by jerseys number.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: 22 is the most useful number in the 20’s for stats.

A-Z - J Jersey Numbers

K – KICKING

A great kicking can win games, origin series and premierships. So here is the best of kicking stats for the season that was.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Reece Walsh ended the season with the most 40-20 kicks.

A-Z - K Kicking

L – LADDER

2025 was a season of lots of movement throughout the season in the NRL, so why not recap the high and lows of the season that was.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Six of the eight finalist spent at least one week outside the top eight. The Premiers Broncos as late as Round 13, the reigning Premiers Penrith for 14 weeks. In all, the top finalist spent a combined 47 weeks. Parramatta were the only team this season not to be inside the top eight.

A-Z - L Ladder

M – MARGINS

People claim that this season saw more blowouts than ever, these stats on margons show that isn’t the case.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: The most common margin in 2025 was four points.

A-Z - M Margins 1 A-Z - M Margins 2

N – NIGHT v DAY

They say the difference between teams can be night and day. So here are some stats that show the difference between teams by night and day.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Seven teams had a better record at night than during the day, three of those teams made the finals.

A-Z - N Night-Day

O – OFFLOADS

With a mixture of barely interesting-ness and a lack of other ideas for the letter O, here are a bunch of Offload stats. Could have done Origin in hindsight.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Viliame Kikau’s stats for Offloads show he is good for one every five runs.

A-Z - O Offloads

O – OFFLOADS

So here’s the Pre, During and Post Origin win rates anyway.

P – PENALTIES

Penalties can be an annoying interruption to a game, certainly in most of Ashley Klown’s games, so why not interrupt our A to Z of 2025 NRL Stats with a look into penalties given and received.

Note: Total Penalties is regular Penalties and Ruck Infringements.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Interchange players are well ahead for penalties given.

A-Z - P Penalties

Q – QUEENSLAND

Q is for Queensland when it comes to rugby league, and for something barely interesting we decided to compare each team’s form v Queensland teams and in Queensland.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Two Queensland teams sit at the top and bottom of the stats v Qld sides. Broncos unbeaten and Gold Coast winless. Gold Coast sitting bottom of win % at Queensland grounds is particularly bad given their home games are in Queensland. Gold Coast haven’t had a season win % above 50% from the 2015 season going forward.

A-Z - Q Queensland

R – RAY STONE

Ray Stone would hate the attention, but too bad. Ray was our favourite player in 2025. And always.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Nothing is more interesting or barely interesting than Ray Stone.

S – SIN BINS

Some players aren’t the messiah, sometimes they’re naught boys. And here is a gathering of Sin Bin stats for the season.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Interchange players were equal top for sin bins by position in 2025. Three of the top four teams for Sin Bins in 2025 finished in the top four at season’s end. The Tigers may have equal topped Sin Bin in 2025, but they did at least halve their Sin Bins from 2024.

T – TRIES

All you could ever need or want about NRL Try Scoring in 2025. First try, most tries, last try, first half tries, and more.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Seven of the top eight teams for scoring the first try of a game, finished in the top eight come the end of the season, the Warriors were the exception.

U – UNDERDOGS v FAVOURITES

Wanted to know if the underdog won more this season than not? Without having pre-match odds, we have used ladder position from before the game to determine the underdog. The lower on the ladder – the less likely to win and then called an underdog. For this purpose anyway. Next year, we’ll get AI to get the odds for us.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Post Origin saw more win as a % for the underdog than Pre-Origin and during Origin. Which makes sense as Penrith and the Roosters made runs into the finals from low down and Parramatta turned their season around.

A-Z - U Underdogs v Favourite

V – Vs – TEAM RECORD Vs OTHER TEAMS

Why not have a look at each club’s record against each other and various different views on each team’s performance in 2025.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Newcastle lost all their games against top eight sides. Dragons won as many games v top half as bottom half.

A-Z - V Vs

W – WRAPPED UP – TACKLES

Tackling the big stats, and running out of letters,

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Interchange players made more tackles than other position this season. They do have four players in that position vs two in most others, but they also play fewer minutes. The Dragons were the most efficient team at tackling in 2025, the only teams where the missed/ineffective tackle ratio to total tackles made was under 10%.

X – XAVIER WILLISON

X would be a hard one to get stats for, unless you have a man mountain, powerhouse forward, and website favourite Xavier Willison. We certainly know what you’re talkign about Willison.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Xavier Willison has improved in most metrics for 2025. Which is why despite injury he was brought straight back into a Premiership winning side.

A-Z - X Xavier Willison

Y – YES, IT’S OUR TEAM OF THE SEASON

Yes, we ran out of ideas, but we also needed to crowbar in our Team of the Season.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: The team of the year only goes to Round 27, so James Tedesco is the fullback of the year, but Reece Walsh would have ran him close if including finals.

Z – ZERO POINTS

Some say there’s no point to doing something as big and stat-filled as this. So the only way to prove them wrong is by finishing on a bunch of stats for zero points.

BARELY INTERESTING STAT: Newcastle failed to score in an amazing half of their games in 2025. Warriors are the only team not to score zero points in the second half of games this season.
