EVERYDAY NEWS – The Surprise Spin-off Success

A spin-off show from a long-running drama has been a surprise success.

Peter Wood (Clinton Edwards) and Sarah Berry (Emma Yarrow) were two of the most popular characters from the action-crime drama Fire Force, which ended last year after 10 seasons.

Known for their quirky humour and easy chemistry on the show, the characters were a good fit for a spin-off, and season one of Peter and Sarah has been a hit.

As a reviewer from PopKulchaWatch wrote in their season one summary, “The season took a while to find its feet: the first few episodes were full of forced, awkward humour, nostalgic Fire Force cameos, and formulaic ‘case of the week’ plots. But the quality improved once Emma and Clinton grew into the new show (and the writers stopped with the Force fan service) and it became an enjoyable drama with some light comedy moments. The plots were still predictable at times, but that’s forgivable and can be worked on for season two.”

It helped that Emma and Clinton have been real-life friends for 15 years, meeting at drama school in 2010, briefly dating in the early years of Fire Force, and are godparents to each other’s children.

“We love working together. Clint is a wonderful dramatic and comedic actor and I was honoured that we got to continue Sarah and Peter’s journey in a new show,” said Emma.

“Emma’s wonderful. She has a quirky and playful side, but can also switch on and nail serious moments. She’s a joy to work with and I hope we have a long run on our new show,” said Clinton.
