A veteran comedian has announced he’s leaving Australia because it’s “too woke”.
‘Saucy Sam’ (real name Alex Norcross) has made a career out of adult-themed parody songs, releasing six studio albums, three live albums, and two live DVDs from 1984 to 2014. While not as popular as his contemporaries Rodney Rude and Kevin ‘Bloody’ Wilson, Sam was able to carve a niche by touring remote Australia and focusing on smaller venues.
But he’s finally had enough after publishing a rant on his official Facebook page.
“Due to lack of interest, I’ve been forced to cancel my ‘Unapologetically Un-woke’ tour as Australia’s become too woke and too soft to handle my sense of humour! While I’m a proud born-and-bred Aussie, it’s clear this country doesn’t want me anymore, so I’m going to America and will focus on touring certain areas of the country that still have a sense of humour and refuse to be ‘woke’! It’s been a fun 40 years, but this isn’t the country that I grew up in! And that’s just sad!”
Most of Sam’s followers agreed with him, blaming the “woke, soy latte sipping Millenial snowflakes” for ruining his career.
“Even 10 years ago, your shows would be packed to the rafters and all the punters would be laughing and singing along,” wrote one commentor.
“I last saw you last year at the local pub and nobody turned up! It was sad. It’s a disgrace what this so-called country’s become!” wrote another commentor.
Though one commentor wrote, “Maybe, just maybe, the problem is you Saucy Sam! You’ve been playing the same old songs that you wrote 30 years ago and haven’t released a new album in a decade. Do you maybe think Australia has outgrown your juvenille attempt at humour? Silly songs about how many times you rooted your missus aren’t funny anymore, no matter what your backwater fans tell you.”
Not surprisingly, this comment received a huge negative reaction and many abusive replies before the commentor eventually left the group (which was probably for the best).
