A new couple from a popular reality show have split up.
Tom and Britney met on the show Average Beauty – which aimed to pair up ‘average men’ and beautiful models, while exploiting the stereotypes of both sexes.
To the surprise of everyone, Tom (who works as a civil engineer) and Britney (who is an aspiring social media influencer and model) actually got together by the end of the show, swearing their ‘undying love’ to each other in the emotional season finale.
But the reality of ‘reality’ TV hit them once the show stopped.
“We both live in Sydney, so we decided to move in together. It was fun for a week or so, but once I went back to work, and Britney tried to get a breakfast radio job, it was clear we weren’t going to work out. Unlike her, I was happy to go back to my normal life. The show was fun, but I didn’t want to extend my 15 minutes,” Tom said.
“I love watching the mighty Red V (St George Illawarra) and playing Wednesday night touch footy, where Brits is glued to social media. We barely said a word to each other and she would often go out when the footy was on, which was fine with me.”
The tipping point was when Britney moved to America to ‘chase the acting bug’ and moved out of their apartment.
“It worked out pretty well. She was bored and couldn’t find a radio gig, while one of my workmates was looking for a new place, so he was able to move in immediately. And he actually likes footy, even though he’s a Parra fan. But nobody’s perfect.”
Tom and Britney agreed to end the ‘relationship’ but stayed friends on social media.
“I saw a photo on Instagram the other day of her on the set of some soap opera, so at least she found work. Good for her.”
