EVERYDAY NEWS – The Controversial Re-Released Album

A veteran Thrash Metal band is re-recording their most controversial album.

Acidic Corrosion started in 1996 and have released nine studio albums and two live albums/DVDs, but their third album Novus Metallicum (2000) was the most hated by fans and critics.

“Yeah, that album was a nightmare,” said lead singer Tom Hunter. “The label at the time wanted us to jump on the nu metal bandwagon. So we were forced to work with these new DJs and rappers on that piece of s**t album. We were starting to make some headway after our first two albums, so we didn’t want to risk getting thrown off the label.”

Though the band was slaughtered for Novus Metallicum.

“Critics accused us of jumping on the nu metal craze and most fans called us sell-outs. And I don’t blame them. They were exactly right,” said Hunter. “And don’t get me started on the Novus tour – we were forced to bring the DJs and rappers along and we tried to burn through the new songs as soon as possible. Those new guys were good at what they did and were nice enough people, but they didn’t belong in our band.”

Though with Novus coming up to its 25th anniversary, Hunter and the band decided to do something about the album’s poor reputation.

“The boys and I have spent the last few months re-recording it,” said Hunter. “We’ve scrapped all the DJ parts, completely re-done the music and my vocals, and turned it into a conventional thrash metal album. All the rapping parts have been replaced by guests vocalists from our favourite metal bands – with ZERO rapping.”

Ahead of the album’s April release (called Novus Metallicum: the Reimagining), the band released two of the re-recorded tracks on their YouTube account, and the feedback has been pleasing.

“The majority of fans love it and say it sounds HEAPS better than the originals,” said Hunter. “We can’t wait to release the album and take it on the road. The boys have started calling it the ‘We’re sorry for that awful nu metal phase’ tour.”
