A hostile interview on the Heavy Hammer YouTube channel has gone viral.
HH journalist Peter MacGill interviewed ‘Diabolus’, the lead singer of veteran Extreme Metal band Satanic Disfigurement, to promote the release of the 10th album ‘The Lore of Lucifer’.
But as the interview transcript shows, it quickly went south…
PETER: Hello Diabolus, welcome to Heavy Hammer.
(Diabolus nods).
PETER: So, you’re celebrating your 20th year in Satanic Disfigurement and are famous for your overt Satanic and anti-religious themes. With your 10th album ‘The Lore of Lucifer’ coming up, do you ever get bored of writing about the same themes over and over? Ever want to change it up?
DIABOLUS: Son, if you have to ask that question then you’re clearly not qualified to interview me! We’ve spent 20 years exposing the hypocrisy and evil of organised religion, celebrating Satan, and covering topics that more mainstream bands and media are too scared to touch. And we’ll continue to do it for the next 20 years!
PETER: But, I was just asking-
DIABOLUS: I don’t know why I bothered agreeing to the interview! I watched some of your YouTube channel and you focus on pretty little pop bands who pretend to be metal because they can scream and play guitar. You may as well call it Hard Rock Hammer and be done with it!
PETER: But we’re one one of the biggest metal channels in the worl-
DIABOLUS: Spare me you PR party line, son. I’ve heard it all before. And what about you, do you even like metal? Have you played in a band?
PETER: Well no, I started as a horse racing journalist, but I do love metal.
DIABOLUS: Favourite bands?
PETER: Slayer, ABR {August Burns Red}, Trivium, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage-
DIABOLUS: I’ve heard enough! I bet you haven’t listened to any of our albums either.
PETER: Not yet, but-
DIABOLUS: Can we move on, son? You’re a sickening poser and it’s boring me!
PETER: Ok. Any plans to tour the new album?
DIABOLUS: What do you think? Is you s****y little channel going to bother sending someone out to cover our shows? Our fans would destroy you!
PETER: I don’t have a say in-
DIABOLUS: Listen, I think that’s enough of this sham. None of our REAL fans watch your garbage videos and most of YOUR fans probably think Slipknot are still scary.
PETER: Actually, I went to their 25th anniversary gigs, they’re still brutal.
DIABOLUS (gets out of his chair): We’re done! Good luck with whatever you do next, because you’re not fit to talk about metal!
While the interview went badly, the Heavy Hammer content team made the most of the clickbait potential, titling the video “Which Question Made Diabolus Walk Out?” with a thumbnail of the veteran singer leaving the interview.
And while Diabolus was criticised in the comments for being “rude, arrogant, and elitist”, his behaviour only endeared himself to the Satanic Disfigurement fanbase and increased sales for their 20 Years of Satanism tour.
As for Peter, he took the hint, quit Heavy Hammer and went back to his roots, starting a new job at a sports betting agency, focusing on horseracing tips and odds. And he still listens to metal. Except for Satanic Disfigurement.
