WOODEN SPOONERS – The New Rugby League Reality Show

A new rugby league reality show will air on Fox League in February 2025, just before the start of the new season.

Called Coach Hunters, the show features six NRL journalists (most affiliated with Fox League or NewsCorp) who will nominate one coach each that they want sacked. Over the next few weeks, the journalist will do their best to get ‘their’ coach sacked. Journalists who succeed can choose another coach to hunt, with an unlimited number of coaches able to be nominated (including interim coaches).

During every weekly show, the journalists will check in and give updates on what they’re doing to get the coach sacked – be it clickbait hit pieces, blatantly false ‘opinion’ articles, or any underhanded means necessary.

At the end of the season, the journalist with the most coach sackings wins a $10,000 prize and an all-expenses paid post-season trip to Bali.

Host Beau Ryan explained the appeal of the show, “Everyone knows the media runs rugby league, decides who gets sacked, and decides who flies under the radar because they have the ‘right mates’ in the media. We’re just making a game out of it.”

At the moment, Buzz Rothfield is favoured to win the first season of Coach Hunters.
