A famous Australian actor has had a mixed reception after returning to his hometown.
Now living in Los Angeles, Liam Jones returned to Toowoomba for the new year. But he was shocked by the animosity of some locals. Jones (30) spent a decade in local soap operas, dramas, and movies, before scoring an ongoing role in a superhero movie franchise.
“I went to the pub for lunch and all these old coots started laying into me,” said Liam. “They accused me of abandoning Toowoomba for LA and being ‘Mr Hollywood’ who thinks he’s top s**t now.”
“I love Toowoomba, but these old buggers are bitter because they’ve never left here, work dead end jobs, and spend all weekend at the pub. I used to work in this pub as a teen, and the old bastards were there back then, drinking and punting their lives away. I doubt they’ve bothered to see my movies either.”
Though the trip improved for Liam when he visited his old cricket club to watch the A grade team play.
“I’ll be honest, I started getting emotional when I saw the old ground – it’s been way too long. There’s still a few guys around from when I played in the Bs. I even had a roll in the nets with a few of the boys. After the game, we hung out in the clubhouse, and I shared a few of my favourite Hollywood stories and how many hot actresses I’ve met. The boys ate it up.”
Liam headed back to LA promising to keep in touch with his old (and new) cricket mates through their WhatsApp group.
“We’re gonna talk nonsense in the group they’ll keep me up to date with how the Broncos are going, and I’ll share Hollywood stories. I’ve been so busy with work that I’ve lost touch with my roots. I needed this trip. I might even find a place in LA to play cricket.”
